Just go Spell Hunter. It makes the grind super easy. I started on saturday evening at rank 5 (0s) and finished yesterday at rank 2 (4s). Will finish the grind to rank 1 tonight. I don't bother taking it any further to legend. (It's pointless) I just want to make sure I keep the rank 5 for next season, so making rank 1 ensures that.

I haven't tried spell hunter but I just find it the worst of the hunter decks and mirror are probably hell

The key to winning the mirror is usually quite simple. There are just three things you need to do / consider: 1. Your mulligan. Really important. Get that Spellstone (or two) no matter what. Mulligan everything else away (except for Wandering Monster which is your fallback in case it turns out to be Beast Hunter etc). 2. Face damage is almost always more important than trading in this matchup. Hit face. Hard and often. Make the necessary trades, but as long as you have more board options than your opponent, they will always be on catchup and trying to stabilise. I have found countless times that by the time my opponent clears the board, he is usually so low that he doesn't have a chance to catch up. 3. Avoid playing Rexxar DK if you don't have to. For the above points / reasons, playing the DK is usually a bad idea, because you want to be doing damage to his face as much as you can. Of course, if it's the last card in your hand or whatever, then go ahead and play it (if you think your opponent is going to swing the board control).
One final bit of strategic advice that I have found helps is to remember that if your opponent has gone Rexxar, then his biggest way of winning the matchup is to stabilise and get his health back up (if you have been successfully pounding face). For this reason, you migth want to consider not playing minions if you dont need to (since the opponent is most likely to get rush minions with Lifesteal. In this scenario, not having something to attack with them can often be the extra turn you need to finish him off. :-)
In any case, I know the deck isn't right for some, and others outright detest it (for good reason), but if you do have a go with it, I hope you get good results. If need be, play a few games in casual to learn the deck first. It all helps :-)
