I'm really interested to know what we all do in 'real life'?
I'm in my early 40's and run businesses and properties - and for the purpose of this thread I'll say 'some well, some others could be better. I'm certainly not rich or anything by lottery standards' because the competition stays inside the game; right?
I've amassed loads of friends in Hearthstone after some great games from all over Europe. We chat about our decks and strategies and share ideas.
I've recently tried to introduce 'real life' friends to the game, and I've noticed a key trend when we play friendly matches. The younger people are, the more likely they are to 'emote threats' or just use 'general bad manners' during a game...such as the passive stance of staying completely silent until they play the winning move with their spell hunter, and emoting "Greetings" once they've won.
So to go off on a tangent; this festive season was all a bit shite for my family. I found myself in A&E (ER for our American cousins) when I had to call an ambulance to my home for my 'better half'. They are looking OK now hopefully, but when your other half is stretchered out of the family home and ambulanced to hospital, you do weird things - like look for routine once you get there with them by going for a cigarette outside.
Once outside, I'd find myself opening my phone and opening the Hearthstone app for a quick game while I had my cigarette. Anything to keep me calm.
I played that long night against many who couldn't possibly have known the state I was in. Their victories were well earned, but would they have BM'd me as much, had they known what I was going through? I'd like to think not. I wouldn't expect them to concede, but it did get me thinking (because of my previous experience, that they may be younger).
But then tonight I went out to a 4 year old's birthday party - first night out since our nightmare of a Christmas. I'm really close to the lad, but I'm not biased when I say this - he made me reflect on my views - (maybe it 's not because they're younger - it's because of how they feel about life?)
So rather than 'how old are you' (which has been done) I thought it might be interesting to ask 'where are you now?'
Very sorry to hear about your holiday problems. I hope everyone is doing better now. That must have been very stressful.
I am 40, married, two kids, full-time job. Still manage to play a fair number of games each month and can usually get to legend by the end of the season.
I completely agree that there are far too many childish players who like to emote when they're winning, but probably also pull their hair out when they're losing. I typically squelch my opponents to avoid this nonsense. Yet once in a while someone adds me as a friend after a game and I accept it, and it turns out they are mature and reasonable and just want to talk game. (There are others who spout off horrific invective and I don't even respond, and simply "unfriend" them.)
Sorry to hear the holidays didn't go well. I must compliment you, though.
I worked as a TA to a marketing professor who has made millions designing market research surveys, and that poll choice list is probably the most comprehensive for the purposes of getting the information you want that I've seen.

Helpful Clarification on Forbidden Topics for Hearthstone Forums:
Enjoying Americans winning in the Olympics is forbidden because it is political. A 14 plus page discussion of state-sponsored lawsuits against a multi-national corporation based on harassment, discrimination, and wrongful death allegations is apparently not political enough to raise an issue.
Sorry to hear about you shitty Christmas. I'm married, no kids, three dogs and two lodgers that pay my Mortgage. Yay!
I used to be a Palliative Care Nurse but that got too much. I'm still in the Health Care Industry but looking after the Older Generation instead. Watching Kids die was something I could only do for so long.
I don't get a chance to play enough to get anywhere near the High Ranks. A few games a day to while away Lunch is as most as I get really. But that gives me plenty of time to Meme it up and chill.
I can tell from my own experience from when I was a young gamer - I would behave badly back then (Hearthstone didn't exist at the time) example in Counter Strike they had this jailbreak map where you had cops and prisoners and because I found it funny that people would get so mad at me for killing the prisoners - same thing in a map called Breakfloor where I would shoot my teammates down.
All in all I think young people behave badly in games because they think it's funny and because they can hide behind a screen.
I matured and is currently about to write my masters at uni. I have never BSed anyone on purpose in Hearthstone - I learned about 2 years ago that emoting "Well played" as you are about to win, before your opponent does it, is considered bad manners - this have lead me to completely stopping from using any emotes.

Really? I tend toward greeting the opponent at the beginning and if I can go lethal, I try and remember to say Well Played before finishing.
I'm a programmer, currently studying videogame development and I love it, hehe. :D

I know what is inside of your hearts and I'm going to use it to make me rich!!! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and feelings with me all these years, motherf..kers, you will not be able to resist for a second the temptation to play my games, hehe.
Unemployed, looking for job, ready to relocate, experience in Marketing (3+ years). If you know positions, or who is looking for passionate candidate tell me pls )
44 yo, working since I was 20 with airplanes! I am a videogamer and board/card gamer since I was a little kid :)
About HS, I'm f2p since open beta and I hate grinding; I manage to get around rank 5 every month. I like to NOT have a full collection and try to use what I own, I rarely craft stuff even if I still have 20k gold and 10k dust around.
36, Not married, no kids or pets. Working at IT. Moved out of my country ~1.5 years ago. Had a few rough months without job, but now i'm on a steady one, so finances are balancing. Plan to spend a bit on HS this year.
Love TCG/CCG games. Been playing since 2002 I play MTG (since 2002), MTGA (since closed beta), HS (since GVG), SV (since bahamut). Played Pokemon for a bit.
I am soon to be (hopely) a medical or biochem student, and I currently work as a youth instructor at the local church. Oh yea and I am 18, I have a girlfriend, no kids obviously, and no pets. Live in Finland ATM but probs gonna move to Amsterdam soon enough

anyway, i guess i am pretty young only being 13. but just to assure everyone, i try not to BM, or be rude in general when playing video games. or anywhere else on the internet, or anywhere in real life, it only makes everyone, including you, more angry than before. and as you probably guessed, i am home schooled and have a very happy home life.
sorry to hear about your holidays not going so well, i hope they get better!
Heating and cooling technician here, 33 yrs old, married for 9, with 2 boys ages 4 + 7, and a house to keep up. I don't always greet, but always WP at the end, win or lose, BMed or not. My oldest boy struggles with being a sore loser, and my youngest will physically mess up a game he's not going to win. I hope they're better out in the world than they are at home!
I usually manage to get a couple games in a day, and typically top out around rank 15. My games happen either when the kids go to bed, or after I clean a furnace with some time to kill.
BMs don't bother me, I keep it light, remember that it's just a game, and how much of a punk I used to be. No need to take things personally, especially when it's out of your control.

Don't say this, you ruin the excuse for so many players that "have a real life". They would easily become legend! :D

Rejoice, for even in death, you have become children of Thanos.
