Tracking works in decks where you don't run several 'critical' cards. In Spell Hunter, Tracking is generally terrible in my opinion.
If you get Rhok'delar, Rexxar or Zul'jin in your Tracking, you either have to lose them for the card you wanted or choose them purely so you don't lose them.
Tracking is good for when you need an answer right now. For when you need to save yourself or to get lethal or get a really good answer to the board.
In decks that don't run a lot of single critical cards such as Rhok'delar, Rexxar or Zul'jin, the other two cards generally are fine to lose for the benefit of getting that Kill Command for a lethal or a Hunter's Mark so you can kill that Lich King safely and stay in the game.
I never really agreed with the whole 'bottom of the deck' concept. The cards are actually gone. You can't get them with the other Tracking if you run it or something else that could draw something specific. And you can't Recruit/Kathrena a King Krush that got discarded by Tracking either. Hunter might not go to fatigue often but with Rexxar the option is there so the 'bottom of the deck' thing doesn't really apply.

Those three cards have different purposes and your win con isn't dependent on having all three, in every matchup. in some, I would gladly throw away Zul'Jin for Rexxar or Rokdelar, in others losing the 2-damage Hero Power is a huge downside so I'll take the aggressive option and throw away Rexxar.

Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before destination.
In Spell Hunter I don't run it at all. Seems counter intuitive to me. In my Mid Range Beast Hunter I run one copy of Tracking along with a Secret Plan incase I need an answer to something quickly.

See, I think I would be a lot happier with tracking, if it actually DID put the other two on the bottom of your deck. At least that way, you know you aren't completely destroying your end game strategy, just putting it on hold for a while.
Losing the cards completely just feels really detrimental to your whole game plan to me - and it can effectively kill the whole game for you. A card should rarely have such a significant death-knell to your game. I'm not saying it can't at all - but the positives dont seem to outweigh the negatives for me on this one.

Good point, but you are still running a higher risk of getting a painful Tracking in such a deck. It can still be a good card, but it has a higher chance of giving you an expensive choice to choose from. As you said this differs per match-up but on average having such cards don't blend well with Tracking.
Putting your end game strategy on hold "for a while" (=putting the win condition in the bottom of the deck) means the game goes to fatigue. If you can live with drawing these cards in such a late stage of the game, then don't play tracking in this game.
If the argument against tracking is that you no longer have the chance to get some cards via tracking, then you know something is wrong ;)
Please explain? That is the whole downside of the card - that you run a huge risk of losing cards you really needed because of the choice. Unless you meant something else? It was a bit ambiguous.

Well, I cannot say card A is not good because it makes card A (the second time I use it) bad. That could only be an argument against running the card twice in a deck. And as others mentioned, there are downsides to tracking if you run cards with recruit mechanisms, or as I mentioned earlier stitched tracker etc.
I've lost too many good cards with Tracking, especially vs some other super slow deck (Boomsday odd warrior comes to mind). I just hate the card so much haha. I thought I was alone in that opinion.
I made legend back in September or something with a deathrattle hunter that did not use a single Tracking. In my opinion, Flare or Wing Blast are much better. I'll just continue thinking that lol.
you dont play tracking in that matchup, dummie.
only noobs think tracking is bad and this thread confirms it.
What a silly opinion.
ok im silly, you keep playing tracking against odd warrior and make an incredible favorable matchup into a bad one.
also dont forget to mulligan rexxar away, you dont need that lol
I... don't think you've understood this thread, have you... lol Ok, sweetie. Whatever you say.
@scorpyon He told you like it is, if you're playing a slow matchup, you don't play Tracking, basically ever. I don't see why you don't agree with that, unless you got offended at the "noob" tag in his original response.
Tracking is a good to even great card in Midrange Hunter and imo in Aggro Hunter decks. Just don`t use this card in Control Hunter decks like Spell Hunter. Not every card has the same value in all deck types.
Blizzard should make a special stream lessons or youtube videos in which they explain the the only way hs should be played is with supa dupa 1000 IQ control/combo homebrewed decks and 30 minutes long match is a minimum time period that proves you're not braindead blah blah something etc.
I use the other one only in case of emergency. If you use tracking in the beginning of the game you might curve well but you might lose some important cards. Also it is too early to tell what card you might need later in the game.
As an example i will use it if i lack a specific card for lethal like kill command, or a card to save my life like DK Rexxar on a board full of small minions.
However depends on the situation. If you are desperate to play something early game you can use it. I don't say that my opinion is the correct way to play tracking but what i prefer.

Eh? Why would I be offended by that? It wasn't even directed at me. He was replying to Anatak89. Though his comment itself was hilariously noobish now you bring it up. He didn't tell anything 'like it is'. It was just a poor attempt at being a dumb troll just to insult someone else for having an opinion. (Which deserves all the sarcasm and piss-take that he gets - good riddance, in fairness). It's not like he actually added anything of any value to the conversation anyway. In any case, it doesn't matter whether Anatak89's play strategy was right or wrong against his opponent. The point is that the card had a negative on the gameplay. The opponent was irrelevant. It could have been Warrior, priest, druid, mage or even another hunter for that matter. The outcome would have been the same. Tracking caused him to lose vital cards. I said in a previous post that playing tracking against any opponent who's win condition is based on a fatigue win is a bad strategical play. But that's a completely moot argument anyway since this discussion is about the card itself, not when and where to play it.
its a good card overall. discover a card from ur deck discard the other 2 for 1 mana is good. I also dont like the discard mechanic but ok. I would prefer somthing like draw a card put the other 2 at the bottom of your deck but i guess that would be to strong. anyways i dont play hunter often so my opinion is based on around 70 games in the last 4 months.
i play 1 copy tracking and one copy discover secret .

Well, according to HS replay
https://hsreplay.net/cards/#text=tracking
it shows a positive winrate in games where it was played. I don't know if "games where it wasn't played" means it has to actually be in the deck.

I guess the second question is an important one.

I hate this card and try to avoid it. Such a waste of two cards... meh.

What's good about tracking is,you can just not use it if you are afraid of discarding the heros.

I'm not sure why people are whining about tracking being bad with zuljin when they should be saying zuljin is bad with tracking.
