After playing a lot of OTK Paladin, Odd Mage, and Mecha'Thun Warlock I'm looking for some new decks to play. I've got a lot of dust laying around but I don't want to burn too much of it so I've narrowed it to 2 decks, both of which would require 1 legendary and 2 epics to be crafted by my count. I've got pretty much everything for a good mecha'thun deck so I was looking at Mecha'Thun priest with the quest package. I also have Golden Halazzi, the Lynx that I want to play around with and quest Hunter seems like the most fun and least degenerate way to use him. Insight is much appreciated.
Well, the Priest Quest is more fun if you use Talanj'i or any other value generated playstyle (with or without Benedictus). And Mechathun Priest is way more consistent without the Quest as well.

Really? I've been hearing no one runs it without the quest package anymore due to better card draw potential.
I'd say Priest Quest: considering your choice also from a Wild point of view, Awaken the Makers sees more play than The Marsh Queen; moreover, Mecha'thun Priest is a lot more consistent than Quest Hunter and so less frustrating to play, even if what you're seeking is purely fun.

I don't have the quest, but I run mechathun with more card draw, and the new Auchanai with circle of healing for more removal. It perfectly counters the hunter spellstone. The deck works pretty well.
I've played quest priest and quest hunter quite a lot actually.
I started playing Mecha'thun with the quest and ended up skipping the quest. The problem is that it sometimes gets in your way. E.g. you might not be able to play hemet on t6 because your quest progress is 2/7. Without the quest you can play more defensive tools such as Wild Pyromancer that helps a lot against aggro decks.
Quest hunter is a little favorit of mine. The deck can be a lot of fun when it works. But that's the thing. It doesn't always work. It's more meme than it's strong. Especially in the current meta.
I would recommend quest hunter of the two because you can play Mecha'thun priest without the quest. But only craft the hunter quest if you care about having fun instead of a high winrate deck.
E.g. I played a game against a deathrattle hunter and had played Halazzi on t7 which gave me 6 lynx in hand. My opponent played Kathrina that summoned Oondasta which summoned another Oondasta which summoned the 4/12 bear. Well, I played Toxmonger and a lot of lynx and killed everything. I won the game after that because he didn't have any tempo left.

You make some solid arguments. I definitely enjoy making oddball fun decks. My current favorites are Odd Gonk Druid, Odd Subject 9 mage, and a hooktusk cannon barrage rogue deck.

Always expect the unexpectable!

I dunno dude, both seem good.
let us know what you pick. I wouldn't mind get some quest gameplay in before they're gone from standard.
there are a lot of hunter decks though so maybe the priest one as you could play a different deck with that hunter legendary.
I seen a one where they made the adds poisonous last night, it kicked my arse as well.

The priest quest at least does something.
The hunter quest is a joke.
Quest Priest + Seance
Looks like quest priest is gonna win lol.
Something I thought of but would cost me more dust than I want to spend is Quest Hunter with Gurubashi chicken OTK. Practical? Hell no. Funny af? yes
