I am about rank 7, but I can't seem to advance (mostly I lose, so even when I get a win streak I still can't make up for those extra losses). I notice if the game goes past about turn 8 I lose because my opponent plays a death knight.
I would like to win games because if I get to rank 5 I get a golden epic. So I'm wondering which decks could win enough games to get to rank 5.
It's all about skill, boy, not the deck. I can give you the best deck and without knowing how to play you would still keep losing. This is a journey you need to take on your own and learn to play better.
I think I might just suck at the game. It's always one step forward, two steps back. I think big spell mage is too expensive for me, anyway.
Just keep at it and find what works for you. I was consistently getting into the 4-3 rank for a while, was a win away from 5 a week ago, now struggling to get out of 8. Partially due to experimentation, like my Odd Deathrattle Rogue... (Spoiler alert! I went undefeated in a small sample of casual games, then got continually crushed on ladder.)
I've had success with Spell Hunter and Even Shaman. But my favorite deck to play right now is Odd Mage, only because I love Ragnaros hitting the board. However, I'm finding if my opponents have a way to deal with him right away, I'm usually a bit screwed. I had an earlier build with Allana to have a last ditch, big board play, and I may be going back to that version. Or maybe a more conventional Big Spell Mage build with Jan'alai thrown in for a final big push. I don't have Sindragosa so Jan'alai could just take that slot really.
See my above post. Is there a budget version of odd mage? I don't pay any money to play this game.
The entire point to playing odd mage is Baku, the Loa, and the Death Knight. You can't really make an odd mage deck without those and it's not 'budget' at that point.
If you're still building your collection you want to aim for faster decks as those tend to have few to no legendaries in them. It's one of the reasons why hunter is popular as there's a budget hunter deck that's fast and effective. Zoo also works last I heard. If you are dead set on going mage I'm curious as to how well murloc mage would work.
The farther you get from 'fast' the farther you get from 'budget'.
If you want cheap decks, I think Midrange Hunter has been doing well and can be made pretty cheaply with various commons and rares, but I honestly don't know what popular decklists look like for that archetype right now.

I climbed with big spell mage from 8 till 4 yesterday . Had alot of hunters,even locks,tempo rogues from time to time
Depends on what kind of decks you like and play best.
Climbing to 5 doesnt require tier 1 decks, just a deck you can play without many mistakes

Any smorc or hunter deck. Also big mage and odd warrior. Basically any braindead crap :P
Is there any deck that can beat spell hunter? It just seems to have infinite value. I don't have a lot of cards is my problem.
I can truly recomend even shaman.

Even shaman, renolock, odd rogue, big priest, mill rogue, best decks to climb, way too powerful
Skidaddle skidoodle your Milhouse manastorm is now a noodle

One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.
- Deathrattle Hunter;
- Spell Hunter;
- Secret Hunter;
- Baku Hunter;
- Dire Frenzy Hunter;
- Other Hunters.

If outvalue is the problem, you want to be either faster with burst or slower with value yourself.
DKs can do very little if your opponent is almost dead and you are holding some more face damage at hand.
I heard hunter was okay.
made it to rank 5 from 10 in 2 days with otk dk pally,chellenging and funny.
Spell Hunter is very annoying to face so I guess is pretty good right now.
You might also try dragon warrior.
I made it to rank 5 with evenlock, was fairly easy.
