Honestly Hearthstone has become in my terms a "safe" game. The devs are unwilling to add new features and create new gamemodes that really will add more to the game (Besides fun pve content with no rewards). What's happened is Bliz has found a formula that works and instend of making the game as great as it could be they just make it good enough to keep us interested and farm money out of us. It's sad because HS has so much potential but the Devs have consciously decided that they'd rather just keep making the same bank instead of really trying to enhance and make Hearthstone as good of a game as it can be. I still love Hearthstone and I'll keep playing in hopes of change but I can't help but feel like the I love the game more then the developers.
To be brutal I think 'safe' is the best place for the game now. Blizzard isn't the blizzard of old anymore now that Activision seems to want to get deep within the company now. I'm hearing a lot of words from the main group of the company sound a lot like a typical AAA publisher.
As such I'm not so sure if 'major changes' will be in our best interests. We're about to correct the power level of the game. The pros seem to be cautiously happy about the changes to HCT. We could do with some new ideas for PvE of course and maybe I can trust them to add some guild/team mechanics. But otherwise, I'm fine with keeping things 'safe' overall.
or if they DO have some 'plans' down the road, at least wait until MTGA gets their mobile version and fixes some of their issues with acquiring cards. It's pretty much the only other CCG I can see myself getting into.
yeah i read an article on redit that a lot of streamers have stopped playing the game and transitioned to other games like magic and artifact(even though artifact is a dead game),don't know which streamers 'cause i don't watch streams but when i saw this topic i remembered the article, and i think most of the people are right even this last expansion was really bad, there was also an article on vicious syndicate stating"if you wanna win don't play new cards" it says a lot about the state of the game right now.
Can those people with over 10k hours translate that into the number of wins they have? I don't track hours but the game does track wins, so I'd like to compare to see just how far (or close, god forbid) I am from that benchmark. I mean, I'm at 9000 wins, which is a lot, but I can't fathom it being anywhere close to 10k hours.
@kwakdizzle I've got about 30K wins total, but then you have to factor in your losses (50% is a safe bet, but if you are above average you could say around 55-60%) This means I also have around 25k losses, maybe a little less. Average game time is about 8-10 minutes, but my deck tracker says 11 for me personally. I'd put you around the 2000 hours played range. Keep in mind this only is actual time playing games, not loading, creating decks, spectating. So It could be more.
Thanks everyone for the responses. It's refreshing to see people feel the same way I do and give a perspective on what they do when they feel like this. I work a cozy IT job and on Sunday have almost no work to do, so that's where I've racked up a large amount of my hours as ridiculous as they are. My life has also been a depressing pile of garbage these last few years, as in people very close to me passing away every single year and dealing with having a chronic illness, so in a way hearthstone was a way to escape that without actually fixing anything about my life. I am just realizing how unhealthy that probably was and am just even more depressed that I didn't make better use of my time. I think the game getting stale for me was probably just a wake-up call. I don't feel accomplished for making it to playoffs or being "good" at this game either, where as if I were good at anything else I'd probably feel better about it if that makes sense...
I have a wife, a job, 6 kids, and a cat. I play Hearthstone for like 20-30 minutes a day, and I play with my kids as first priority. Ladder is only for the card back. Doing it that way, I have lots of fun, but still have a life. That doesn’t stop my wife from calling me obsessed with the game, however!
I would never spend any kind of time like you’re talking on a video game. You could have written like 5 novels or so!! Oh yeah, I also write novels.
I feel like if you enjoy games in the way they were intended, and not as a replacement for real life, then they are very fun, and there’s almost nothing to complain about (except Kingsbane rogue).
Honestly, watching now three expansions come and go with very little change has made me seriously question my investment here. I get that they screwed up with K&C, but waiting for the magical "April 2019" to fix it is just not a good strategy to keep the game healthy. Their unwillingness to make ongoing tweaks to keep the game fresh has me realize that they really don't care of balance the game for the "hardcore" audience, and if they aren't going to care about my experience, why should I worry about continuing to invest and play when the game feels stale and not fun?
I'm just really disappointed with the dev team at the moment
10K hours of literally any single thing that isn't job, family, or exercise is too much. Take a break. The game will still be here if you want when you come back.

I think I've similar issues, tbh I am not as good as you seem to be... but I've had a medical-issue about three years ago... after that, I started to isolate myself and wasn't leaving my flat except for therapy-related stuff... Until that moment I've finished my BA and was transitioning into MA, atm everything lies shattered in front of me... It's kind of hard to focus, I am seeking distraction... Before three months decided to get legend, had to accomplish my 1st attempt (miracle rogue@ shamanstone)... Reached Rank 1*** and there it stopped... Last month I was laddering again, after a losing-streak, I was totally mad like never before and was cursing like hell... I was talking to myself and asked myself, why are you playing this, you aren't enjoying it, it makes you sad and stuff...
Everything you said about HS (powercreep, one dimensional meta, same cards over and over again...) matches with my thoughts, and still instead of writing or finishing the university I am sitting here and reading. HS won't change, even the april-rotation will change nothing...
I am also trading away my precious time for this nonsense, but I am trying to get out this vicious circle...
What about sports or playin an instrument? In the end, don't get me wrong, computer-games suck in the long run... The only exception imo is Starcraft (1v1) it's nearly the only game which has serious learning effects because of multitasking and reacting to your opponent...
10k hours are 416 days -and nights- playing HS. That's 5-6h/day since the official release date. I'd call this fake.
If he started playing in beta, and played approx. 8 hours a day every day, that's approximately 10K hours. So it's feasible, but not healthy at all.
Well, he said that he had a house a work and a wife. If you spent 5-8h/day in HS, 8h/day sleeping, 4-8h/day working... How many time did he spent with his girlfriend? I'd call fake again.
Hearthstone was release on March 11, 2014 (1743 days ago)
If your number is correct, you've spent 24% of your life over the last 5ish years on Hearthstone.
If you sleep even 6 hours a night on average, that's 32% of your waking hours.
Just some perspective, but if that's true, you probably have a problem. I'm not judging, but you should seriously think about getting help if you can't spend less time than that on a game. Take care of yourself.
If you don't know how to balance priorities then yes, something is wrong with you OP; but that doesn't limit to just Hearthstone. Maybe you shouldn't be playing video games at all.
Look, I want to tell you something because you're very dear to me. And I hope you understand that it comes from the bottom of my damaged, damaged heart. You are the finest piece of ass I've ever had and I don't care who knows it. I am so glad that I got to roam those hillsides.

He did? I see one person say they spent 10k hours by playing on their free time with a cozy job. They don't sound like they have a family.
A person did say they have a wife but that's the one playing only for a half hour and much of it with their family.
Whether or not the exact time is true, I understand the thought.
I backed way off the game after I got the "Digital Wellbeing" feature on my phone and saw how easily an hour or two in a day can vanish to Hearthstone. That's a lot of time which, as OP said, could be better spent elsewhere.
The questions of what you get out of the game, what you have to put into it, and whether it is worthwhile to you are legitimate ones.

One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.
I think we all hit this point playing WOW and went cold turkey. "WTF am I doing with my life".

Brode left because blizzard don't pay enough compared to other companies.
