The actual answer, because it needs to be simple, not that it's something Blizzard will ever do because of their greed, is weighted rewards.
If you are playing a copy-paste highly popular tier 1 net deck, the system recognises and your win is worth a quarter star. Rewards for your win scale up quickly from there based on how closely tied your deck is to popular decks known to be dominating ladder.
Idea is not bad but for a completely new game mode, I would love them to ban 1 legendary and 1/2 epics for each class and some of neutral ones and change it weekly. Each week new decks - at least on paper. Still, I don't believe that it will happen.
It's a bad idea for casual still. It is freaking casual, why would you ban some classes ?
Simply to speed up the process. Personally, when I'm going into Casual, if I match up a class I don't want to play against, I concede and Queue again. Sometimes this process happens a few times in a row, which can be annoying and time consuming.
The option to Ban in Casual would simply remove that time waste. I personally know a lot of people that do the same as I do, hence why I find it an obvious concept.
So what you are saying is you want auto concede option, not ban option.
the other thing I wanted to know is: are you ok with the fact that the meta usually allows no more than, like 10 decks to be viable on the ladder?
if not, con you think of a way it could be improve?
for us cheap working class dudes, getting legendary cards takes so long, and when we get most of them they're useless because not viable, that makes me sad =( ... its boring only being able to climb with one single deck
10 different T1/T2 decks, each of which has a dozen variants, and just as many T3/T4 decks, is pretty good. And I think you underestimate how well you can do with an off-meta Homebrew deck
This would ruin the game if it was implemented in competitive, but maybe in casual. I could see them letting you ban a class in casual, that'd be nice.

Personally I say 'why stop at 1 legendary' or one class? We have 14 sets at this point. I think we're ready for a "heavy rotation mode!" Separate from ranked, of course.
Dump all of the sets in a pot. Select 5 at random. For added flavor, include the Classic set into the pot and give it an enhanced (though not guaranteed) chance of showing up. Do this every month. For example (runs to random.org)
This month will be: Old Gods, Frozen Throne, League of Adventures, One Night in Karazan, and The Boomsday Project
In the end this will change nothing... The meta will shift, because Death-Knights will rotate etc. but in the end they will be new powerful cards and a meta, so that the TO will face decks which will constantly beat his archetype...

Make a deck out of THAT!
this rotation mode is a very cool idea... guess blizzard would never do such a thing because it means less $$$ for them
This is what we're waiting for with the tournament mode we were promised. Banning cards shouldn't happen in ranked and casual, that's where nerfs come in. Bans should be on classes, which is all the more reason we need this tournament mode. I think it will freshen up the game in a major way and help players not just understand tournament deck building, but appreciate it more, since tourney decks are often different than ladder deck

Some people actually farm gold in casual, you would encourage those aggro players to queue more often in casual, that is the flaw in your idea. We know that casual isn't really casual anymore, people will tryhard with their tier 1 decks.
People ought to be able to play the decks that they honestly want to play, with any cards they choose. The desire that "everyone else" should only play the decks and cards that I approve of isn't exactly helpful, and would deter lots of folks from bothering to play the game at all - and I suspect that's what the OP's suggestion amounts to.
It takes about a month of grinding, completing dailies, and winning at least 3 games a day in order to earn all the gold to open enough packs to get the dust that allows someone to craft a legendary.
And then some fucking creep bans it.
The HS community is well-regarded by everyone for its thoughtfulness. I'm sure no one would ever complain about never being able to play the coolest cards in their favourite decks. Indeed, it sounds like a fantastic way to market the game - "Hearthstone: you'll never play the cards you want!"
Let's say that you ban Baku the Mooneater or Genn Greymane. How is your opponent supposed to win by using only half of the cards and not getting the upgrade of the hero power???
Or, if you choose before entering the ladder, everyone will just choose to ban the deck that hard counter them, won't use tech cards and will just get mirror matchups. So fun...
So what you are saying is you want auto concede option, not ban option.
Sort of. Just an option to not be matched with a Class that I'm just going to Concede to, no one likes to Queue up, get matched with a Class they will concede to, and have to repeat that process until we find a matchup we are willing to play.
It's for Casual Mode, so there is no actual reason for this not to exist, we are not losing Stars, there is nothing at stake in this Mode.
I'm fine with that if the queue time is on your side, not averaged across the player base. Basically 'non-banners' jump ahead of 'banners' in line. Of course, this would not accomplish what you were hoping to.

You just won't queue against those decks.
Reread the suggestion. He's suggesting that you DO play against the deck. The card gets banned and you get an 'extra card' that you can use to fill in the spot.
So if you play Baku and your opponent banned it, you're still forced to play them.. but you get a free card to somehow make your deck work.
We have miles and miles of threads talking about a normal deck/class ban. This takes those issues and adds the ability to autolose/win depending on what got banned.
this rotation mode is a very cool idea... guess blizzard would never do such a thing because it means less $$$ for them
A mode that requires you to have a full set from EVERY SINGLE SET WILD AND STANDARD to keep playing in as you can't rely on Classic to fill in the gaps. You can't even subside on just all of the key decks from the past as that won't help you if it's a Naxx/Witchwood/Rumble/OneNight/GrandTournament meta without a lot of substitutions.
And that's on top of the regular modes which already pull in all of the cash.
And if you are worried about the player base being split, just make it have set times or a tournament system.
"means less cash" malarkey .. #)$#) This is WHALE territory! Only way you can whale it harder is to demand it be gold cards only.
Just posted it on the salty thread but decided to bring here because I want to know your oppinion on that.
Dont you think that a banning system could work in hearthstone and would solve most of our problems? It shouldnt be that complicated, i thought something like for each class you can, by default, ban, let's say, one legendary card and one epic (or just one legendary would be good enough i guess). And, on the other hand, for each of your decks, you could have an extra card in case one of your cards is banned.
That would allow sooo much more variability in the ladder... Like, just being able do ban Deathstalker Rexxar... Frost Lich Jaina... Kingsbane... Malfurion the Pestilent.....just a sigle card that ruins a fucking match and wins the game to who pull it ... people would actually have to think when building a deck, instead of netdecking and doing the same boring strategy over and over
dont you guys think that something like this could be feasible? i think it would be amazing..
On a general level all tools punishing lame netdeckers is more than welcome.
That said... What extra card would you consider replacing your, say, Kingsbane? Or MechaThun, or Undatakah, or Hadronox? Just curious.
yes in those cases, as i said earlier, that would not be possible, it would have to be sorted out (like some cards being unbannable? idk) otherwise this specific banning method indeed wouldnt work
The bans need to be BROADER. Not single card bans, but broad bans like, no Legendaries. Or, Common and Basic set cards only....
There needs to be "rooms" or servers with the different parameters for playing.
You could do a 3000 dust limit room for example.
No Death Knights or Hero cards......
You get the point.
Then there would areas for everybody's play style.
You could also implement tweaks to the rules like Tavern Brawls......
So many different possibilities. However, getting Blizzard to do this probably impossible.
If they incorporate guilds, they could do it and have it be a guild setting. It wouldn't affect the overall elements of Ranked and would provite a place for folks who want that different way to play.
And note that they nuked Tournament mode in order to incorporate 'social features'. Guilds is typically a social feature.
So yeah, it's VERY much possible.

No. No it would not.

There's no reason to not give us some options for casual play.
For ladder I don't think a ban system makes sense but I think HS is long overdue for a Public Test Server.
