Out of curiosity, what is your preferred method? I ask because, this time around, i decided to change my approach to pack opening and see how it goes.
Up until now, i preordered every expansion, plus i saved 7k-8k gold and bought a bunch of packs. I always ended up opening about 140-160 packs on launch day. However, i was quickly burnt out when BD launched, mainly bc the meta rapidly got stale and BD had little effect on the game. Therefore, i decided to take a break, and came back just a few days ago, after ~4 months away.
I could have preordered as i always did, considering i had 0 gold (spent all my gold on BD launch, as always). However, i decided to slowly grind gold for the next 4 months and steadily buy packs with my earned gold, so as to have something to work towards. Previously, i always had the feeling that opening all packs on launch day left me with no objective to pursue, and grinding all the gold again for the next launch was really tedious.
Now, i just preordered the 17 packs bundle+6 free packs+600-700 gold i already gathered, so i'll open about 30 packs or so, and buy packs with gold during the upcoming months, in bundles of 10 packs or so. It also helps that i have a nice dust reserve of 14k dust, so anyway i'll be able to craft a nice amount of things if need be.
So, what's your take on this issue?
EDIT: Mods if you see this close the thread ffs, shouldnt have bothered. Thanks anyways to those who took the time to properly answer instead of belittling, insulting and behaving like 5-year olds.
It may be smarter to save your gold for the next expansion. It will have a full 2 years to play and will be the base of the meta for a long time after the rotation.
EVERYONE opens their packs during launch (and purchase more if they want to). No reason not to open packs during expansion, you want as many cards possible to try out.
If you want to buy one pack at a time grinding it (assuming you wont buy anything because the game will get stale in your opinion) feel free to do so.
No need for the thread
however I will make prediction: you will be stuck with the current decks (zoolock, odd pally, deathratle hunter or whatever you have in your collection) whereas everyone else will be playing with new legendaries and cool decks. You will eventually be frustrated and spend money to try the new cards OR you will call it quits and take a break again for months.
depending on the expansion i usually opened packs until i got two different legendaries (i rembember opening back to back hogger doom of elwynn in wotg) but with a legendary guaranteed from the expansion release and another one in the first 10 packs i've seriously gotten lazy, anyways for this one in particular you should settle for your initial opening and then save for the next expansion from day 1 of this expansion since the next expansion has more shelf life.
Care to explain? I could ask you the same, considering your question is totally uncalled for.
Did i offend you in any way? If you dont wanna take part in the discussion, nobody is forcing you to.
Nah, I think people here meant that in a joking way. You know those internet videos about people pouring milk into their bowl before the cereal? The guy who bite into the whole kit kat bar? The one who carries his pizza sideway inside a plastic bag? The whole "It's harmless, there's nothing wrong with it except it's crime against humanity" thing?
With that being said, I do not have the self-control to not open all packs at once during launch, and I consider anyone who can restrain themselves from doing so sociopath or psychopath, or worse.
I don't need a /s at the end of 2nd paragraph right....?
Thanks for the nice thread! Remember not to feed the trolls!
Here is my approach:
I save up about 4k gold for the expansion, and spend about 3k on launch day, thus opening 30-35 packs. Then I exclusively play arena until I have gone through my gold. The better you are at arena, the longer it takes to go through gold, of course.
About 3-4 weeks into the expansion, my pity counter gets past 30 packs, and I'm eager to open a legendary, so I spend gold to buy extra packs. After I open that long sought legendary, I spend dust to craft important legendaries. Overall, I end up buying 45-50 packs with gold for the whole expansion, and spend the rest of my gold in arena.
And that's how I manage my collection as a F2P player.
I personally spend all of my gold, but record my pity timer. After I'm done opening, I buy packs one at a time w/ gold until I get a legendary, then start saving for next exp. In your case, I'd probably try to play arena a lot of you're good at that. It's a good way to get cards, packs, and dust. If not, I'd open all the packs you can on release and then open more packs until you hit next legendary, then start saving to get back into the cycle again of not having to pre order. (I'm F2P so I never pre order, I just do what I said at the top, and am able to open around 80 packs each exp which is a nice amount for me)
I open all my packs on launch when a new expansion comes out, which is on average 130 packs.
On the last month of the expansion, I'll start saving gold and I usually have approx. 6k-7k gold when new expansion launch. However, I found with every expansion, you'll have some good pack outcomes and bad ones. For me, TBP was a big hit. I was very satisfied with what I cracked open. However when I was opening my witchwood packs, they were terrible. Like 8 legendaries out of 130 packs when everyone on the forums were 12 out of 90 average.
Maybe you could wait for a full moon or win something on a scratch ticket when you want to open all of your new expansion. But I like have access to all the new cards to play with on release day. But on that note, I do wish you all good cracking on your new expansion packs tomorrow.
Nope all packs will be open both bundles about 9 k gold =90 packs and maybe buying more must have atleast some of decks to have fun. Why the hell would play the same decks as last expac that’s like seeing pirate warrior still be played during this game expac unexcepted .
People are being dicks because, aside from being dicks, your title is misleading. It sounds like you won't open all the packs you bought/earned right away. I would agree that is pretty silly.
But after reading, sounds like you're not going to spend a lot of money to buy packs right away. Realizing that, your theory is right on the money. I broke the cycle of shelling out $50 a year ago and never looked back. I get excited for every 100 gold earned after release, it keeps me going, and it also keeps me from feeling like I have to compete on the bleeding edge of the meta all the time.

If you are in your first year of playing please read this post.
Dust does not burn a hole in the jar. Be careful what you craft, especially before and right after a rotation.
just give blizzard you money 4head

Are you some kind of sociopath?

lol the kids these days, really...
I don't have the self-control to NOT open all my packs all at once.
Open all packs. Save gold immediately for the next expansion.
I don’t see it as grinding to just play and complete quests every few days. You will accumulate plenty of gold.
Then a few months from now (if you have the ability) when meta deck xyz is king and you are missing a card(s), buy some packs for dust.
What's wrong with you?

Yeah, I don't have anything close to that amount of self-control.

So good for you and have fun.
good question. depends if we have a ton of gold stashed and what we pack. I will open all cause it will be only like 40.
