How long is it best to wait before crafting any cards when the new expansion comes out?. I heard it's a bad idea to start crafting decks in the first week of the expansion because people will be testing out decks.
You can already craft what you like at launch and use it, that's the whole point of the game ;)
I know that but what i meant was, if i want a good meta deck, how long should i wait before crafting anything. I got np waiting 2 weeks if that's how long it takes.
Personally I craft cards right after the expansion hits. Why? Exactly because the meta is not settled yet. There won't be another opportunity to play in such a meta until the next expansion. Garbage decks that you come up with that won't work in a real meta can climb. You can hit legend with more solid decks easily. I personally enjoy discovering what are the new meta decks myself and abusing the knowledge to climb.
People who hold out until the meta is settled save dust ... but IMO, they're missing out on the game in its purest form. After all, people are always complaining that the meta is stale. Perhaps start playing before it is even settled and you'll get more out of your cards

This. The whole point is to experiment and try NEW things, not maximize every spec of dust for optimal “competitiveness”, which in and of itself is a joke, since it’s HS not MTG. Memes and new stuff is what I aim for, so I’m crafting day one if I don’t open what I want.

I tried that when I first started playing. in GvG the "MUST CRAFT" card was Troggzor the Earthinator and pirate rogue. So with the 2000 dust I had I crafted pirates and Troggy.
Not only were the cards bad competitively, they were horrible memewise. You'd NEVER get Troggzor to go off and pirates were just bad and boring.
Meanwhile there were literally three legendaries to even bother with in GvG: Mal'Ganis, Dr. Boom, and Vol'jin. Note that INCLUDES 'for the memes (thus Vol'Jin as Priest was pretty bad then). if you wanted to have fun, you'd craft things like Hobgoblinor MAYBE Mimiron's Head.
I literally couldn't make any decent deck, whether for fun or competitively. I basically had to just try to make to boring but semi-worthwhile budget decks work until Blackrock and spent a month struggling to craft Dr. Boom alone.
TGT is when I opted for the 2 week wait. It was a bother but thanks to waiting I dodged crafting Nexus Champion and focused on crafting Mysterious Challengers and Twilight Guardians. suddenly had access to two of my favorite decks at the time, Secret Paladin (Yeah I was one of them. Come get some!) and Dragon Priest.
Some of you, especially those who pre-order, will have no problems crafting what they want and not regretting the result. These threads aren't for you. It's for folks like me who are 4000 dust between having decks they want to play (whether for fun or competitive) and having decks that we regret making and spending either a mass of their collection or the next 5 months watching everyone else have fun.
So yeah, if you are like me, Go play Arena or Spam Whizbang for 1-2 weeks (if you don't have A Whizbang, CRAFT #*#*(#$ WHIZBANG). Even if you are for the memes, what's 'fun and foolish' may not be clear at the start either. Then find out what decks you want to make and craft those.
(Though I don't recommend what *I* do. I don't even OPEN any packs for the first month, instead spending all of my gold on Arena. After a month I start opening packs and finding out what I want to craft. But I'm odd and have VERY little time to play properly. so YOU do the above)

I know that but what i meant was, if i want a good meta deck, how long should i wait before crafting anything. I got np waiting 2 weeks if that's how long it takes.
I mean, it's probably more fun if you just play a deck that seems fun rather than playing a meta deck, being a meta slave kinda defeats the purpose of the game. I understand that you wanna climb but it's better to maximise enjoyment than maximising starts :).
Well, I always open my initial packs then craft whichever key cards I want to play around with first. Priest is my favorite class, so usually that. Then after a while, if any meta priest decks pop up that requires more crafting after a few weeks, I look into it. Otherwise, I continue just tweaking priest until I can come up with a respectable deck.
if u are tight on dust money etc i would say to not craft in the first 3 weeks. i know it sounds horrible but as a f2p i have experienced bad stuff when crafting early. example: witchwood i crafted Baku day one. i ran odd paladin cause it was a strong aggro deck at the start that just died 2 weeks after cause of even paladin powerhouse and the call to arms. i think people said it was probably the best deck in HS history cause it pratically didnt lose against everything. many ppl said they reached Legend for the first time in years cause of it. meanwhile i was left with an odd paladin that got shit on by even pally and controlock.
granted baku is an insane card nevertheless but u want to wait and see what works in the present day. wait 3 weeks and profit
I would wait to see what actually turns out to be good but, if you really want to craft something, the only legendaries I would actually stand behind at this point are Da Undatakah and High Priest Thekal.
To be honest, while a lot of the cards are interesting and worth messing around with during the first 2 weeks (like 70% of the class cards for sure), I can't many of them are guaranteed crafts. I'd wait unless you are going for set completion anyway.
Here are some of my thoughts on some of the hyped cards.
1. Wardruid Loti - The card is not exciting, I know, but it's going to be a staple in every druid deck not running Oaken Summons, and come April, that's going to be every Druid deck in the game. Druid's best 3-drop in the entire game. This is a safe craft if we expect Druid to see play in April, which is likely, but there's also no rush to craft this card right now.
2. Zul'jin - This card is going to offer a 3rd win condition to multiple hunter decks, who usually only lose when they can't seem to find one of their 2 current win conditions. I can't see this card being a dud. Having said that, it will lose a ton of support in April due to Kobolds rotating, so it's up to you if you want to craft a card that will be short-lived.
3. Halazzi, the Lynx - This is just a powerful card, even when you don't consider combos. It's a wonderful play on turn 8 and on. Don't let the low tempo fool you - this is not a turn 5 play. Performed amazingly well in pre-release. I'm sold.
4. Shirvallah, the Tiger - I'm torn on this card. I think it's powerful, but I also think that if Standard can't support A New Challenger... or Lay on Hands, it's not going to see much play. Probably not safe craft - wait for results.
5. High Priest Thekal - If you already have a lot of heal pally legendaries and epics going all the back to Knights of the Frozen Throne in your collection, you probably owe it to yourself to play this deck so you get some money's worth out all of those heal pally card pulls. I can't imagine Blizzard jerked us around for over a year with these heal pally cards if they didn't intend to make this deck finally playable. If the deck sucks, then Blizzard should be publicly shunned and criticized for such poor release planning. The probability is high that this deck is actually quite good, and I'm excited to see how far Zandalari Templar takes me. A 4 mana Lich King while having enough health to dodge all of the stupid combo decks seems like what you might want to be doing in Standard.
6. Gral, the Shark - Not a safe craft because needs a provable deck, but I am also not going to be surprised that it's in a good Rogue deck, and that deck will be different than current Rogue lists. The card is solid though, unlike the legendary cards Rogue usually gets.
7. Krag'wa, the Frog - Probably safe craft - it's freaking powerful. Having said that, it's height in power might be short-lived due to Unstable Evolution leaving Standard in April.
8. Zentimo - There's no way this card won't see play, so probably a safe craft now until it rotates out of standard. I don't think it's a bomb 5-star legendary though - but it's going to give you impressive plays every game. I think it's better than Electra Stormsurge.
9. High Priestess Jeklik - In the pre-release, this card has often gone infinite in a very poorly constructed Warlock discard deck, so we know it's powerful. We don't even have to run the Quest for it to be good either, and in fact, you probably don't want to run the quest with her. Having said that, as someone who just never pulled any of the discard legendaries in the past, I'm likely to never craft this personally as the investment would just be too high. I still think it's a high-risk craft regardless, and its success might be short-lived until April too unless it finds a way into a discard-themed Zoo list. And to be honest, even going infinite was still not good enough to win against either Mage or Warrior, so it might just be failing short anyway.
10. Akali, the Rhino - the card is probably too low tempo. Wait for the deck to prove itself.
11. War Master Voone - A great control warrior card, but wait on crafting it. Odd warrior is just too damn good right now and Dragon Warrior has to prove itself, and they don't fit into the odd deck.
12. Mojomaster Zihi - In the short-term, I can't not see this play during tournaments where Druid is running around unchecked. It's very good against control and combo decks in general. It's going to go well in any aggro deck. Probably safe craft, although might be short-lived.
13. Da Undatakah - I'd wait on this. It's very powerful and hyped, but wait for a few proven decks first. This one smells like it can be rather disappointing... Having said that, so many decks use Deathrattles these days, it would be quite the unlucky miracle for none of them to want this card.
14. Oondasta - There's too many decks where this can go in, like Druid, Hunter, Paladin and Warrior - and I'm probably missing some. Probably one of the safest crafts if you have the supporting cards for it already. Easy to use and get value from. It's probably no Zilliax though, so craft with caution and/or just wait.
If I didn't list a legendary, it's probably because I think it's hopeless.
At least wait for the first ViciousSyndicate meta report (usually ~10 days after release), they have a pretty good insight on what is good and what isn't. If you want to be extra safe and not waste any single dust, wait for the 2nd ViciousSyndicate report (1 week after the first).
I have a question OP. Do you want to have fun? Then craft. Do you play ladder seriously? Then wait. If money/dust/gold is not a problem then you can do both.

Up to you man. The meta is 90% settled after 2 weeks so if you want an almost certain meta deck you can go then
Yeah what Marker said. Max 2 weeks if you want to be certain.
You can already craft what you like at launch and use it, that's the whole point of the game ;)

Depends all on the player

One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.

Given how 90% of the initial hype on cards is a complete failure (history teaches), I'd wait at least 3 weeks before calling a deck 'meta'.
If you want a meta deck, wait. If you have no issue on spending resources to have fun, then go ahead and explore the new set by trying stuff out.
Just wait a few days to see which decks are good and then craft
f2p 2 weeks post expansion, veterans, first day cause it's the most fun
