I've only played WoW casually for a time and trolls were never on my radar. Any of you lore annalists out there want to fill the rest of us in on what's going on this expansion? :)
For instance, how many of the revealed cards are actual figures in the game/lore and how significant were they? I'd be very interested to learn about any characters of importance tied to the expansion. Are Loas and spirits made up for the expansion like much of Boomsday or are they actual implements in WoW? I had a friend tell me there was nothing of the like in WoW but he quit many years ago and I believe his information is outdated
At a casual glance it looks like toll architecture and other visual flairs are based on native central american culture, much like Taurens are based on native north american and pandas on oriental culture. Given how significant snakes are in Mayan/Aztec mythology, I was honestly kind of disappointed there is no snake loa or something similar. Instead we got ... frogs?
Many of the legendary cards are either raid bosses that appeared in WoW, or are directly or indirectly known with the game anyway. The whole Rastakhan and Bwonsamdi, the Dead are key character in the latest expansion. Special mention to Hakkar, the Soulflayer who is one of the oldest.
Some are entirely new tho, like the Rogue Piratess, and Zentimo too i believe.
Some other are also very old and famous Warcraft characters, like Zul'jin (Hunter hero card).

I stopped playing WoW some time ago (before Legion) and never been into the lore, but I remember Zul'jin, hex lord malacrass and jan'alai being raid bosses in Zul'aman, which was introduced during The Burning Crusade.
Edit: as a matter of fact, I remember when the trailer for Zul'aman dropped: made trolls look pretty cool and Zul'jin a badass. It has aged terribly though, I watched recently and laughed
Since you mentioned snakes, Hakkar the soulflayer seems to be based on Quetzaquatl from the very basic knowledge I have on both. His artwork on wowpedia looks more like it than the one on the card.

Zentimo is a minor character in lore, last witch doctor of Krag'wa: https://www.wowhead.com/npc=124559/witch-doctor-zentimo. So far of all the legendaries we know only Captain Hooktusk is a Hearthstone-only character.
