Some time ago Blizz announced three new cards in Classic, to make up for HoF class cards (Mage common and epic and Rogue common). Since the announcement, I was keeping my classic packs unopenned, since I have all commons and a large epic collection and with the new ones there is a larger chance I get something I don´t own.
Last week, they nerfed Mana Wyrm, and now I am facing a dilema: do I open the 11 packs now to have extra dust from any wyrms oppened or keep them until next week for the possibility of new cards? Anyone knows how long do nerfed cards keep giving full value? I know its a VERY marginal question, but I am just curious.
I don't know the exact time frames, but here is the correct advice:
Disenchant your Mana Wyrms now. I think you get 10 days to dust for a full refund.
Save your Classic packs until the new cards are released. Blizzard has not given a firm date as to when that will happen. They previously said it will happen in October '18. I have also heard early November.
I have no idea why Blizzard is unable to give a firm date in advance as the cards have been ready for at least a month.
The odds of getting exactly mana wyrms are pretty slim so you’re better off waiting for the new cards. Opened 40 packs just yesterday and didn’t get a single wyrm.

I would lean towards holding onto the packs. In the case of probability, you're looking to open 3 of 94 Common cards when the new cards get added in compared to 1 of 91 for the Mana Wyrm. Either way, the odds are low.
You'll also have a 1 in 36 chance of getting the new Epic as well if you save your packs (whenever you unpack an Epic).

That would be my initial tought. The main argument against keeping the packs is that I play mainlly Wild and the three cards seem really underwelming in terms of power, so there is a possibility that none finds its way in any deck I will play, therefore, the (negligeble) amount of extra dust from a Mana Wyrm now would be a plus. Those other cards I will have plenty of tavern brawl and spelunker packs to open.
Anyways, I am inclined to hold to those packs and open them after the new cards. Was just wandering if there will be a "sweet spot" between the two events that will allow us to open new cards AND full dustable mana wyrms.
I mean, the gain in either case is pretty negligible. I reckon none of the new classic cards will see play, so opening classic now and disenchanting any Wyrms you get is probably a better deal. For every Wyrm you get, there is enough dust to get one of the new commons later.

What are the two cases? Cards are generated randomly when opened. Once the new cards become available, if you have disenchanted your Mana Wyrms, your chances of getting a card that you don't have is moderately increased, making those packs more valuable in the future than now. My collection spreadsheet says that any missing Classic common increases your chance of getting a needed card by about 2%. With disenchanted Mana Wyrms, that will be four new missing commons and one new missing epic, which might increase your chances of getting a missing card by 9%.
Classic packs are so readily available and so bad for long-time players, why wouldn't you maximize your value from them?

As I said, the new cards won't be played in meta decks. There is no point is saving classic packs to get them, getting them is useless. Also, trying to mass open classic packs for the chance of getting a mana wyrm and disechanting it very unlikely to give you any kind of significant dust value. In conclusion, you can do whatever you want. I personally open any classic pack I have in the off-chance I get an epic I'm missing from the set or a legendary. I don't really care about opening commons, if I need them so desperately I just craft them (FYI I haven't crafted a common card since open beta).
I ultimately don’t want to keep my packs... because I still don’t have all classic epics (even missing some good ones) and I don’t want that shitty epic that will be replacing ice block instead of better available options. And don’t really care about commons...

You've made a prediction that might not come true and an assumption about what kind of decks people play.
You've predicted that neither Mana Wyrm nor any of the four new cards will be played in a meta deck. It certainly looks that way, but it might not turn out to be true. In the long run, you are better off maximizing your chance to get new cards by waiting for a couple of weeks, because one or more of the cards may turn out to be useful in a meta deck.
You've assumed that people only want to play meta decks, and so any card that doesn't go into a meta deck is unwanted. It could be that Mana Wyrm or the other four new cards could go well in a fun meme deck. If a player wants to make the meme deck, it makes sense to maximize his chances of getting the new cards or 2-cost Mana Wyrm.
Conversely, your chances of getting a needed epic from a prematurely opened Classic pack are very low.
The new cards are shit. Open now asap to get mana wyrm dust.
This. People keep saying "you don't know for sure they won't appear in a meta deck", but sometimes you just know. The Boogeymonster in theory could find a place in a meta deck too, but this is reality, it won't.

I am wondering this too. Someone said nerfed cards usually gives full dust value up to 2 weeks from the day the nerfs went live.
I always thought that packs (like lootboxes in Overwatch and HotS) are generated on acquisition. Which means you won't find any new cards in them.

No, its generated when you open it
