Personally I think what would fit HS A LOT more is a clan or guild option instead. Well it'll be called 'teams' here I guess since that's what we have.
Teams would provide the chat options people want but with people you know you want to talk to. inviting means you can find and meet new people and you don't have to play a rage-inducing game with them beforehand. it would still allow for control since you can just join a team with strong rules against insulting/swearing ext.
In fact, I'm somewhat hoping that the 'moving away from tournaments to focus on social features' means they stopped tournament development to focus on Teams.
You would just get trolls & salty players throwing abuse out at the opponent much more often than even legitimate friendships & connections being made over the game. Seems like more of a waste to implement than a benefit. If you want a friend just postpone accepting the invite for an hour.
I have got a strict no friends policy in any given game. Thus I have no friends and I do not want to have a game chat, I would like to have the option to auto squelch in the games options. People are toxic, I am toxic, so...no friends...here and in rl

I see no benefit of adding a chat, what's the difference if they shittalk you midgame or post game.. just add random people or go to the add friends thread here in the forums.
For me i'd like a way to write my opponent for using interesting tech choices or a good play, even without adding him. Blizzard could add a black list of words, so insults do not work.
Where is the option to message all friends? "Hi guys, good evening". And can they get a normal textbox chat on the side instead of those stupid speech bubbles? My advice to Team 5 (and humans in general) is being stubborn about correcting mistakes doesn't make the mistakes not be mistakes.

Free to try and find a game, dealing cards for sorrow, cards for pain.

Or allow copy paste from chat text. Or allow you to send a decklist code link directly to a friend.

Anger is the punishment we give ourselves for someone else's mistake.

You can open a chat window from the battlenet window under "social". If you click on the respective person, you can open a separate window for a chat.

Completely random & unrelated but today I faced this druid with the same name (KaptainTrips) three times in a row. After ramping up myself they conceded the first game & instantly conceded the very next two games after ;P

That was for sure me, mate. Was playing greedy Astrial Communion with a rambunctious 4-year old crawling all over my whilst trying to complete the 'play 10 minions that cost 8+'.
Sorry I conceded so fast. Add me... we should rematch and ramp.

It just shows what an average HS chat will look like if it will be implemented.
A tip on accepting friend requests if your goal is to have people to chat with in general: wait.
That is, accept the friend request but not at the minute it's sent. Instead let it sit a few hours. Simple method would be to let new requests sit until you log off. When you log in, accept any requests that occurred. Folks who rage tend to want to do so right after the event. Once they had time to cool off or just forget what they were angry with you about, the toxicity also cools down.
I've accepted every friend request I've received for the past 3 or so years since I started this. The only time I've had a single negative word come through to my chat was the one time I accepted a request right after a game just to see how it is. Every request I've accepted with a delay has never bit me later. Though I'll admit I don't interact in chat much (never been big on friend's lists personally. I prefer guilds). Still, even if you end up with a jerk at least they aren't coming at you guns blazing.
Funny thing to note: A few days ago I received a message from a guy whose friend request was accepted nearly a week after the corresponding match (while I was playing a weird mix of Yogg/Deck of Yogg+lotsa card draw/tutor effects built around a Tempo Mage shell). He remembered the game and instantly proceeded to belittle me, brag about his win vs. "primitive agro mage" during which he heroically turned the game around and capitalized on such a fools mistakes etc. - see what I did there?
In general though I prefer your method and made lots of friends, most of them during constructed Tavern Brawls while I played meme stuff.

One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.

Problem: Shit talking
Solution: Enable unsolicited shit talking
What could go wrong?

I know, I can't believe i have to manually hover over my opponent and press 1 whole button to silence their rage inducing emotes.

Always expect the unexpectable!

Best thread I have skimmed in a very long time!
My Thanks
I enjoy.

I don't recall a friendly conversation after they concede and add me. It is usually a rage concede.
I've been to a local tournament 2 years ago, found some fellas there. Real life is the best way to make friends lol.
