Hey guys! I was thinking that every time that some "previous opponent" adds me as a friend I just decline because I assume they just want to shit talk. The truth is, I don't have many friends in Hearthstone and I would like to know if someone added me to call me names or they just thought I played well and want an extra friend to play with. I think if we had the option of in game chat (like starcraft) it would help a lot in finding more people to play with. What's your opinion?

Why don't you just accept their request and if they immediately spam you with insults you delete them again? It's not like you are married when you accept their friend request...

lol of course it's not like I am marrying them but I don't like toxicity so if I can avoid it by declining a friend request I just do it! :P What I mean is I would like to know if someone is toxic before adding them...an in game chat that could be muted would be nice for that.

Having an in game chat would not prevent your opponent from insulting you. I really don't see the problem (or difference) in (1) adding them, finding out if they are an asshole, and if they are deleting them and (2) letting them insult you while playing, muting them and don't befriend them. You just have to talk to them to find out if they appreciate a good game or if they are just raging and try to f*** your mom or something :P
Another tip to get HS friends: just be the one that befriends people. If you enjoyed a game and you didn't win by topdecking Leeroy as a Zoolock for lethal while having only 3HP (or something equally triggering :P ) just send a friend request and say that you liked that game. Many people will respond positively (from my experience) and will even be surprised that you don't want to insult them.

So you don't like to accept friend requests because many of these people spam insults but you would like that they can do it during the game? Is it just me or does that sound weird to someone else as well?

Man, just add them, in my experience most people add not to flame. Worst thing that can happen to you is some random person who you will never meet will call you bad things. If that happens, see it as a badge of honour. You got them so frustrated that they found the need to lash out to you :D .
No idea if you tried this yet, but you can find quite a few people here if you want extra friends. If you play EU feel free to add me aswell. I too knew of times I didn't have a lot of friends yet,
Thanks for your responses! Well I guess I am a little prejudiced :p I will accept and add more people from now on, you are right, not everyone is toxic :)

An "open" type of chat within the game is actually limited due to age-policies (at least here in the UK and Europe). When we worked on the chat system for Runescape, we had to implement a chat that only allowed a certain selection of words to be used (a bit like the emotes in HS), which was to allow the game to be available to under-13 children. I would presume that Blizzard is also restricted by this. (Adding a friend and chatting is different as it requires acceptance fro both parties to talk)
In essence, it means that Blizzard dont have to slap an age certificate on the game, and therefore "fixed" chat options prevent unsolicited messages from predators online to children who play this game.

Interesting, I never knew that was the reason behind quick chat.
A tip on accepting friend requests if your goal is to have people to chat with in general: wait.
That is, accept the friend request but not at the minute it's sent. Instead let it sit a few hours. Simple method would be to let new requests sit until you log off. When you log in, accept any requests that occurred. Folks who rage tend to want to do so right after the event. Once they had time to cool off or just forget what they were angry with you about, the toxicity also cools down.
I've accepted every friend request I've received for the past 3 or so years since I started this. The only time I've had a single negative word come through to my chat was the one time I accepted a request right after a game just to see how it is. Every request I've accepted with a delay has never bit me later. Though I'll admit I don't interact in chat much (never been big on friend's lists personally. I prefer guilds). Still, even if you end up with a jerk at least they aren't coming at you guns blazing.
That just opens up more doors for BM. It's not like League of Legends or Overwatch where people are constantly doing something so they don't have time to type; in Hearthstone, you have a whole 75 seconds that most people don't even use. And honestly, most people that rage add you are ones that are victim to insane luck or combos. (storytime) Once, I was playing the weird sans-quest OTK Mage at a pretty low rank (about 20-15 I think), and the opposing Odd Rogue had me at 4 health, constantly spamming emotes. I pulled off my combo, shrekt his face and said nothing. He added me after the game, and after I accepted it, all I could see on the right side of my screen were angry comments in all caps. I simply logged off but stayed on the Blizzard client, and I just kept hearing the *ping* noise of a message being sent. The next day, I saw "132 unread messages", and boy oh boy was this dude mad. He was so frustrated that he called me mentally impaired and threw racial slurs, all while I was studying my economics. I'll be honest, I had a laugh for a minute before I reported his ass, and I have never heard a word since.
But I would suggest doing as @iandakar does, and just stave off for a bit. Even if they still throw shit, just delete them.

Heh, yeah, it wasn't exactly "advertised" to the "common masses" in fairness! Hehehehe! ;-)
blizzard has made it very clear that they dont want a chat system, and if you want to talk to someone about a game then friend them afterwords.
you would be surprised about how many people actually want to be your friend, playing nothing but star aligner druid on high ranks for 2 months and only 1 person friended me to be angry, and many people friended me.

It sounds like you're wanting to avoid people yelling and hurling insults at you, since you don't accept friend requests. If there was a chat option, yours be facing a ton more toxic aggression than you're facing now

Doesn't the battle Net client provide this? Something like the starcraft lobby would really work I think.
Golden Hero Collections thus far; -
Europe: Druid, Hunter, Paladin, Mage, Priest, Rogue, Shaman, Warlock, Warrior (9/9)

I honestly am not sure, mby if it was there from the start, but adding it now would probably bring more harm than good.

Because the poor boy can’t handle insults.
We don't even have the option to auto squelch opponents. This is as good as Hearthstone gets kiddo.
