Its just the hype because it got "released" finally. It happens whenever a new card game gets released, Gwent sure as shit didn't keep the streamers and I doubt that MTG will keep all the current streamers as well, why? because it's fucking boring to watch.
Was watching Day9 play and my God, I never fall asleep during his streams or videos, he's probably the only streamer I can endure to watch at length and I was snoring after 30 mins. Same goes for Gwent and I know Artifact is gonna suffer from this as well.
They might be great games and I do hope that people will enjoy them, but hot damn. I won't be watching any of it.
Hearthstone has been out for years and MTG Arena is new and is from a well established brand. It is perfectly natural that people (including streamers since they are people too) will want to try new experiences. The question is will those players (and streamers) be back to Hearthstone after the new-ness of MTG Arena has worn off? That is the real question, and it will be a couple months before we truly know the answer.
People have been moving from Hearthstone to other games while waiting for new expansions/updates ever since release, that is just natural for card games. I've been playing Hearthstone since the very beginning, but I have tried many other games between expansions and I'm sure I will be trying MTG Arena as well. I'm also sure that I will spend plenty of time in my future playing more Hearthstone.
Wizards (MTGArena) owner is just paying streamers to sponsor the game.
Yeah, but even when they are paid for that, they could have said just no. Also, the sponsored videos are being very well received by people, which is what really matters and is not a common thing (many people hate sponsored videos). :D
Sponsorship doesn't really determine if the streamer likes the game or not. What it DoES determine is what games will pay the bills. For example, Kripp regularly stated that some of the sponsored games he played he enjoyed better than hearthstone. However he CAN'T stream those games outside of sponsors since the viewership drops like a rock and this is his job. This made sure he kept running Hearthstone streams once the sponsorships ended.
So while players getting sponsored doesn't mean they are being forced to play it, it DOES mean that there's not enough viewers to pay for itself yet. the sponsorships let the streamers play the game without the audience.
So if you watn to know if MTG has real legs, don't listen to whether the streamers like the game or if competitive players jump to the game (We learned that trick when Lifecoach and several others moved to Gwent but Hearthstone kept going). Watch for the top streamers to play the game OUTSIDE of sponsorship as it means that the audience, and ad money, has moved. Once that happens, we'll have a new king. Until then, new boss is the same as the old boss.
Oh btw: barely out of open beta and it seems the MTGA community is already pissed off. Seems there's a set of 10 premade decks that they expected to be given out, but now found out only half will be given out and chosen at random. I cant comment as I'm still in the "I'm a newbie, what's a card, OH SHINEYYY!" phase but as I said, Wizards will really need to nail the F2P aspects of the game if they want this thing to go big. Blizzard isn't going to abandon this game: they WILL recover over time. This is the time to take over the scene. Otherwise, they'll fix things up, recover their fanbase, and MTGA will be just a secondary game for folks who want an alternative to HS.
(sidenote Artifact is Pay only. They aren't even trying to fight for the top spot, by design :P)
Also btw: Wait, MTGA doesn't let you dust and craft? THe wildcards act like crafting but that's still different from being able to dust cards you don't want and make That One Card you need....am I going to have MAJOR problems making new decks once I'm out of wildcards?
Yeah, but even when they are paid for that, they could have said just no.
Why would they say no? That doesn't make sense.
"We're going to pay you to play a video game."
"No thanks. You keep your money."
LUL
Sigh... I know, that wasn't a very good point, but I was expecting no one to really pay attention to it, considering it was not the most relevant part of my post.
It's only rational that streamers take a break from one game to play another. In this case, it makes just as much sense, considering how M:TG has a lot of influence on Hearthstone and M:TGA is a new game, the kind of game that streamers will be familiar with.
It's a good thing this is happening. I even expect Artifact to get people to play it, at least for a while. This all was to be expected.
Blizz will not care if streamers are leaving HS, because Blizz showed time and time again (last with the cancel of the tournament mode), that they only care about the absolute low level plebs and new players. Blizz will not react at all and will change nothing! :D
Blizzard should make a special stream lessons or youtube videos in which they explain the the only way hs should be played is with supa dupa 1000 IQ control/combo homebrewed decks and 30 minutes long match is a minimum time period that proves you're not braindead blah blah something etc.
Lots of people saying Magic is way too complicated to watch and whatnot... I really don't think it's thaaaat complex of a game. Obviously it's more complex than Hearthstone, but is that a bad thing? It's still easy to follow as long as you know what's going on, and I don't think it takes that long really to catch on to some of the intricacies. Obviously you're not gonna be a world class player within a week of playing, but you should still kinda know what's going on.
Er, wait, I guess sometimes I have to remind myself I've been spending all this money on a children's card game haha. At least Magic is more of a young adult's game? Maybe?
I think MTG is a lot more exciting to watch. The thing about Hearthstone is, we've seen every match a hundred times. How many times have you seen a quest rogue punish a big spell mage or odd warrior? How many times have you seen a druid ramp up against a zoo-lock and punish them with walls of taunts or tokens?
There's a lot more excitement to be had in an MTG game for sure. It's still too early to say anything like "This spells the end of Hearthstone", but I think it could actually finally be a viable alternative CCG. If it's managed well, that is. And I still don't care about Artifact at all. I think Artifact will have trouble gaining any traction if MTGA really does start to take off soon.

In all reality. This is good for both games. Hearthstone expansions have a truly interesting lifespan of about 2 weeks before the meta gets solved. Mtg has a bit less rng and more decision making in deck building. Arena is just good .hearthstone is good but even it has become stale to watch at times. Push wild or make more formats. Doesn't have to be mind blowingly complicated either .Just give players something to keep engaging with. I hope arena keeps ticking up. Magic is a great game outside artifact themed blocks
I fucking loved HS, but at this point.... It's miserable. There's barely any fun left in it for me. Chances are I won't come back, unless MTG:A shoots itself in the foot too. Rn, they're not doing the best - but at least the game is more fun.
This game is mostly about luck and tryharding with T1decks to get somewhere. No skill required.
said every bad player ever. :)
You're both right and both wrong. I play off-meta decks because they're the only fun ones, for instance, and I could even reach Legend if I was dedicated enough - but I'm lazy, so :P

This is true. The Blizzard priority is new players, then returning players, then casual players and drooling idiots, with long-term, invested players last. That type of player craves the next challenge, and Hearthstone has not delivered that. Understandable that many look elsewhere to find it.
Their contents still generate million views everyday. "B-but major casual players don't care..." How the fuck do you know it won't affect Hearthstone? Are you a data analyst? Until the next quarterly report from Blizzard we don't know that.

One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.
MTGA is just fresh so they are giving it a spin, that being said boomsday meta right now is one of the worst i can remember...

Does anybody know when the new classic cards will be added? want to know how long to wait to buy second welcome bundle.
What, so everyone's supposed to sleep every single night now? Y-you realize that nighttime makes up half of all time?
I tried it last weekend, it was ok. Not fun enough for me to switch though.
Unpopular opinion: Rogue is OP
Probably doesn't matter.
HS is to MTG:A as YGO is to MTG. There is room for both.
lol, few streamers start playing another game and everyone loses their minds, besides most of them were sponsored streams anyway.
Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.
HS is so casual, no wonder they are leaving. This game is mostly about luck and tryharding with T1decks to get somewhere. No skill required.
