Bit of context: I started at low rank 7 a couple hours ago and got on a bit of a streak so I figured I'd make the push for rank 5. I actually thought I was in because I miscounted briefly, which is a shame because I played the best game of my life against what I thought was my gatekeeper in a Priest vs. Odd Rogue matchup.
Anywho, I pick up a great win and I'm disappointed to find that I'm still one win away from rank 5. I queue into Hunter, get terrible draws and struggle to stay alive all game, but eventually grind him down to an empty hand with just one charge of an Eaglehorn Bow while I'm sitting at 9 health and one turn away from stabilizing with Omega Medic. He proceeds to top deck an Animal Companion and high-roll Huffer for exact lethal. I haz a sad.
I'm tilted, but I regroup and queue into a Shaman. He's rank 5, and fortunately I think he's trying out a meme deck. Easy win, movin' on. Next game is against a Rogue. Again, rank 5; I'm hoping for memes. Alas, I see Baku and end up with a garbage starting hand. He has the nuts and steamrolls me. I queue up again; another Shaman. Shudderwock this time, but I manage to draw a billion cards early on, deny all of his draw, and pull off a win. Once again, one win from rank 5; it's a rogue. No Baku! I rejoice. But once again I have a garbage hand. He coins into Necrium Blade, plays a Devilsaur Egg and procs it the next turn. I grudgingly play a Giggling Inventor into a pretty obvious Mossy Horror turn and I'm dead before Psychic Scream can even come online.
The tilt is strong this time. I draw a Warlock, fortunately. It's control and I win pretty convincingly. One more turn: I queue into a Druid, mulligan for token, then cross my fingers. The mulligan takes forever. The game finally loads and I look at the name: "Your Opponent". Rope, rope, rope, "your opponent has left the game". I rejoice.
TLDR version: I lost three gatekeeper matches in a row, then my fourth disconnected. COINCIDENCE? Probably. But there's something comforting about some higher algorithm lookin' out for us tilted folks, and so I choose to believe it.
It fits existing conspiracy theories. The central allegation is that one will be placed in alternating win streaks and loss streaks with the goal to create an emotional rollercoaster to keep people addicted to the 'high' of finally having a good run.

Or you just pay more attention to these games because you are nervous.
I've won the majority of my gatekeeper matches, and the only reason I know that is because I am nervous and care for those games. You could probably make a similar statistic to rank 6 2 stars but you won't as it's only a bump on the road.
It happens that people right above rank floors throw games to help people up, and others play a bit less seriously because they have nothing to lose, and might not be interrested in climbing further.
But suggesting that the game is rigged for it makes very little sense, and we do not allow threads about speculation if the games is rigged for various resons.

The server would probably have some idea. Not that there really is a conspiracy.
