Same here mate. I started when Old Gods hit the patch and it was a wonderful experience for me. I did not think about meta decks or anything. ı just played my mage deck which had a lot of weird cards. Ima f2p an now I have more than 8 meta decks (not including aggro ones) and game feels boring. I wish I had the same experience and fun like 2 years ago. As they said, money does not bring happiness.
Other than this I have 2 reasons why the game feels less fun. 1st for me is the Ben Brode's resignation. I loved and admired that dude a lot back in the day. His laugh, personality, the way he announced news etc. was WONDERFUL! Im not a twitch guy, I rarely watch streams. But I tried watching card reveal in KoFT expansion. Oh boy, watching only for a min filled me with joy. Till that day I watched card reveals. Until this one, where they replaced Ben Brode with a different person that had no smile, talk etc. Its feels full and boring. Im not saying "WHERE IS BEN BRODE DISLIKE11'!!" if that person could introduce the expansion better and more cheerful, I would gladly watch it. But somehow it did seem dull as I said. Thats my first reason, Ben Brode.
Second is pretty simple. The meta for 2 expansions and the meta decks. So shortly, meta is all aggro right now. We have odd paladin / rogue, zoolock at tier1. And this has been going like this for a while (2 expansions). Witchwood was dull for the players and the meta. It did not bring aything. Boomsday lack the same problem but its a little better. Frozen Throne however brought the BEST meta in the HS. The addition of Lich King and the Deathknights brought a freshness to the game (not including Druid >:(). Game offered a second chance to all classes. You could play anything you want, evolve shaman, elemental mage, demonlock etc. And then booom. Kobols hitted like it was a meteor. Game suddenly changed to only Druid, paladin and Warlock only decks. Kobolds brought us the most power creeped cards in the history of hs. Cubelock, Dude / Aggro Paladin etc. It was such a bad meta where other classes were thrash. In conclusion, I believe this all happened after the bad expansion releases. An expansion should bring freshness to the meta, like Ungoro and Frozen Throne. It should introduce new ways to have fun and play. And every class should make you feel entertained.
Its sad to see HS like this tho. Me and my friends were playing this non-stop back then. Now the game feels dull and the same for months.
I'm somewhat in the same boat. These last few weeks I've only really logged on to clear dailies. Typically, I grind legend on wild, standard, and sometimes EU or Asia standard. This month I only bothered to grind Wild legend which is usually the faster option since the match ups are so polarized. I tried to motivate myself by working on my last golden heroes (Rogue and Priest) but I probably only play a few games a day.
I've played long enough to know that interest in the game can tend to be cyclical. Usually when interest in the game is in a down swing, I tend to play console games I've been putting off or do things outside of the house.
I find deck choice and the meta to be the biggest draws to the game. When you have a deck you love, you'll want to play more. Back in Un'goro/KotFT I played close to 8,000 games of Quest Mage and hit top ten legend multiple times. Now that it has lost core cards in Standard, I still haven't found a deck that I want to play everyday. I would use it to hit legend in Wild until this last season when Psychmelon made all other combo/OTK decks too slow to compete. When I don't mind losing to any aggro deck, I do enjoy playing Topsy priest
There aren't many decks in Standard that I find enjoyable to play (probably because the meta is focused on being Druid or countering druid). I think that being in the mid point of the current rotation contributes to fatigue. I'm ready for the next rotation. I'm hoping that design will try to shift away from massive boards from nothing design but I won't hold my breath.
Just like every other year and of course it's dying to every other card game...HAHAHA!
Between Magic: Arena and the upcoming Artifact, Hearthstone doesn't stand a chance ; )
^^This. People really need to start changing the record, hearing the same thing over and over again gets boring. lol
Do you even realize how ironic your metaphor of "changing the record" is with regards to Hearthstone lol?
This game is the very definition of a 45 rpm single. Two sides, two songs and nothing else. And that's IF you're lucky, as most singles almost always just have an instrumental track on Side B.
Honestly, yours is a very good metaphor to describe the current state of the game lol. Even if you didn't intend for it to be that. XD
lol, whatever dude, you got called out by 2 people for your first comment so of course you had to try and reply back with some smart comment but that's cool, good day.
If by "called out", you meant faced by two random people on the internet who would have denied any arguments by anyone to begin with regardless of what they were, then sure. I got "called out."
Have fun playing the same record, hearing the same thing over and over.
It's funny how people like you who clearly hate the game, yet still come on here to cry about it. lol, if it's so bad then just quit and leave.
I've been here since 2014, boy. That's closed beta. Clearly, I loved the game at some point. In fact, I still very much love the fan creations forum. The folks there display the sort of imagination and creativity that's sorely lacking in Blizzard's dev department at the moment. That's why I'm still here.
You don't have to love the game to appreciate that much.
Well if you do not love HS, but you still cannot run away from it, than it is far from dying...
Dying, not dead. The state of the game is....just about the same as my weekly activity. Login once every three days for some gold - not even bother logging in if the current tavern brawl is shit.
But again, I love just lurking around the fan creations forum. I used to be insanely active in there, but I still love checking out creations.
If you want my thoughts, the best day for this game ever will be one when someone figures out how to host a private server with custom cards and modes, because it's evident Blizzard doesn't have a spare creative bone left in their bodies since Brode took almost the entire old guard. I'm not holding my breath though.
i lost all motivation to play this game because i'm tired facing the same deck made by some dickhead. just admit it, you're all mindless asshole who follow other dickhead ass because we don't even know what to do other than waste money
it's because these last 4 expansions have been especially bad. There are a lot of tournament viable combo decks in this meta, which is really bad for the game. What's worse is that minion-trading is essentially gone because of cards like Spreading PlagueVoidlord [/card][card]Defile and Prince Keleseth. The minions people do actually play are stuff like Devilsaur Egg, Carniverous CubeDoubling Imp, and baku paladin. (all of which are minions you can't realistically trade into.) Combo decks are usually extremely repeatitive, because you have the exact same win condition every game and all you do is play cards that draw cards and survive, and those are the best decks right now, so it's expected that this meta would be very tiresome and not worth playing.
To be honest, you're probably just better off playing a different game at least until december because Blizzard has even said that "they're very happy with this meta, but they're looking at Giggling Inventor" so it's not likely there will be a balance patch for months. They've lost their magic recently and it's not just in HS. HotS has gotten a lot shittier recently too. They added 1 really really awful map (alterac) and they just "UPGRADED" one of their old maps which a lot of people really loved to make it like alterac....

You're right. It's not just Hearthstone. ALL of Blizzard is hilariously uninspired recently. Battle for Azeroth is without a doubt the worst and most boring expansion WoW has ever had - and I've been playing since vanilla. Even the Collector's Edition was a literal insult to everyone who has been buying them since day 1.
All of their original creatives are leaving + their hiring standards are stupidly high = No one with any real ideas on where to take their games.
Woah I'm amazed by all the answers. Way to much good advice to quote it all, but I guess what's hitting the Nail is that creativity thing. Guess I try and switch to arena for a change like some said to get a bit fresh breeze of air from standard ladder
I really liked hearthstone and I even invested quite some money in it. Reached legend once but ever since ww i struggle to play hs. It's like the magic is gone or something. I don't really find decks I enjoy playing. And often when I lose I get really pissed and just close the game. I hoped it would get better with the new expension but I'm still not feeling it.
On the other hand I invested so much time and money that I really want to love it but struggle to even grind to 5 nowadays.
Guess taking a break would be a good way but then again I'd lose out on so much gold and when a new possibly exciting expension hits I'd have even less motivation to get back into.
play another game. hs totally lost it's flavor. witchwood and shudderwock killed the game imo. playing ladder is cancer. the match making is garbage and losses are pre determined. even playing casual you'll face the same stupid decks all the time.
i remember when ladder was fun, now ladder is just boring.
play a game that brings you joy and don't waste your time with good ole boring ass hearthstone

Don't let this be a motivation.
It's ok to look for ways to enjoy a game further than you do now. However, if you don't enjoy it at all then that's that, don't force yourself.
The time and money you spent was for the enjoyment you had before this point. You DID enjoy yourself before right? Then your money is time well spent. Sort of like spending money on a movie you enjoy. ~2 hours later the movie has already ended, but the money was for those ~2 hours and it's well spent if you enjoyed it. Same here. Let it go. Focus on whether you want to spend time/money for what you are enjoying now.
If you want to do something else then do it. Play something else. Do something else. When you want to come back, come back.
If the game is setup so that you will find it hard to come back if you do what you want to do (take a break) then the game isn't worth keeping up and that's that. If leaving like you want to means you can't come back then DON'T.
(note that it doesn't have to be that way. I left Fire Emblem Heroes for a few months, didn't even plan to return. Then I came back and though I did technically 'miss things' I easily was able to get back into my rhythm, find new things to strive for, and enjoy myself again)
NEVER let "I don't want to miss out" as the reason to start playing something. Pushing past the motivation or pain is for work, important things, things that'll plan out your future. Not your hobby.
- It's Valve. They rarely make games but their games are always hits. Team Fortress, Portal, Half life, Counter strike, Dota 2, Left 4 dead, etc... These games still have so many cult followers.

Starcraft 2 is actually growing recently due to some changes they've made. It's a rare one though.
I wish they had done it when the game was popular.
I too am tired of Druids, Rogues and Warlocks. Generally when I get tired of the game, I stop playing and only watch Twitch but most streamers that I watch are playing MTG or Battlerite Royale.
Blizzard better do something to refresh the game, otherwise Artifact will make Hearthstone the next Diablo 3.
I would try some RNG/yolo/fun decks.... Renounce Warlock, Thievery/Espionage Rogue, Thievery Priest... or just play only every second/third day to catch a Brawl and do the quests.
8-10 weeks to the new expansion...

the only motivation you should have to play any game is the entertainment value(unless you're a streamer or a professional player that earns money through gaming), if the game is not bringing you joy and fun times then just don't play it or if there are different modes in the game look at them and see if maybe you'll like one of them
as for the money you've spent, if that's what's keeping you playing the game, stop looking at them as investment as it never was that, when you go to a pub and spend money on booze you don't consider that investment and tbf money spent on booze and games are pretty much wasted in a similar fashion, at least games you can replay after some time
and lastly just to give you perspective on how I play the game - I spent quite some money on it as well(I have pretty much full collection and 30k dust sitting for golden cards I might want to craft) but last few seasons I didn't even get to rank 15 even though I was doing all my dailies and playing almost every day, just playing decks that I considered fun, and maybe this is something you should think about as well, fuck rank 5, if you spent money on the game you don't need to get there anyway
in conclusion just play the game in a way that makes it fun for yourself and if you can't find that way, don't play it at all and don't stress about money, the money you invested(if you still want to call it that) in the game is not going anywhere, the collection will be there as long as the game exists
I'm exactly in the same situation. I played HS since open beta and since ww i'm bored, I didn't even build one deck, juste playing some retard deck and crafting nothing, doing my daily quests...
I'm now waiting a murloc/naga expansion before leaving HS, thats why I always wanted. My guess is that's for this end of years, i'll buy packs with all my golds then quit HS.
I'm playing magic arena since a couple days because I liked playing the IRL version when i was younger and I enjoy the online game, there is more complexity and reflexion than HS.
I think the big problem of HS is that the new cards have just different stats or sometimes a keyword like taunt or divine shield with no real innovation. The last real innovation was tri-classes from gadgetzan :/ I think there is no secret, if we are bored we need to leave even if we dont want to lose our collection. If it's not fun, it's not worth !
I too am tired of Druids, Rogues and Warlocks. Generally when I get tired of the game, I stop playing and only watch Twitch but most streamers that I watch are playing MTG or Battlerite Royale.

Diablo 3 is one of the top selling games of all time and one of the few who made the list that isn't a Nintendo game. They recovered BIG TIME after that failed start.
Can't rule Blizzard out in situations like this. But it's time for them to step up.

as for the money you've spent, if that's what's keeping you playing the game, stop looking at them as investment as it never was that, when you go to a pub and spend money on booze you don't consider that investment and tbf money spent on booze and games are pretty much wasted in a similar fashion, at least games you can replay after some time
and lastly just to give you perspective on how I play the game - I spent quite some money on it as well(I have pretty much full collection and 30k dust sitting for golden cards I might want to craft) but last few seasons I didn't even get to rank 15 even though I was doing all my dailies and playing almost every day, just playing decks that I considered fun, and maybe this is something you should think about as well, fuck rank 5, if you spent money on the game you don't need to get there anyway
in conclusion just play the game in a way that makes it fun for yourself and if you can't find that way, don't play it at all and don't stress about money, the money you invested(if you still want to call it that) in the game is not going anywhere, the collection will be there as long as the game exists
good luck and remember to HAVE FUN! ;)
omg, WHO CARES?!
Im tired of stupid threads like this one.
If you don't want to play HS, simply uninstall it.
Plenty of other games to play
Love the tribes.
Diablo 3 is one of the top selling games of all time and one of the few who made the list that isn't a Nintendo game. They recovered BIG TIME after that failed start.
Can't rule Blizzard out in situations like this. But it's time for them to step up.
One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.
