You guys are fighting over useless technicalities. On one side, he's buying the Bits as a middleman to buy the card back. Yes, he's using his money to buy the card back in his sphere of observation, he couldn't care less where the money goes, even if it's given to the teams. On the other hand, the money is, for the sake of bookeeping, going to the team and not being accounted as sales from the cardback and packs. You guys are both right and wrong.
I heard a story once about weed being illegal to sell in a country but possession being legal. A store got around that by selling random shit and giving out weed as a "thank you." This is like that. No-one was buying that that pack of tissues cuz they wanted tissues. They wanted the weed. But bookeeping says otherwise. Same thing here, people bought the bits to use as a middle currency to buy the rewards. But the bookeeping will insist the rewards are free. Now can we end this conversation?

It doesn't matter if you call it a donation, you still have to spend your cash to get the item. You HAVE to purchase bits. In the case that you're only interested in buying bits to buy a specific item with it, it's the equivalent of buying an item at a charity auction, even though technically speaking you are supposed to ''donate'' in charity events, items are deemed as SOLD at the auction, you don't donate for them, which goes against the bullshit you're trying to make me believe.
Now you're gonna tell me''Well but the money you're giving is still a donation'' alright, but it doesn't change the fact that X item selling for X amount of donation is the same fucking thing as selling an item in a store. In the HGG case, people are CLEARLY and undeniably ''DONATING'' in exchange of a virtual item, the card back. No matter how you try to twist it, I view that as buying the card back for 2500 bits, no matter what you say you're not going to change my mind because you are illogical to think otherwise.
Charity Auctions are Auctions... The only difference is the proceedings go to charity rather than the people that donated the items for said Auction... The donations were made in items, those were put up for auction, for sale, and the proceedings are then used for charity.
Maybe I missed something, but I didn't realise there was an Auction taking place in the Twitch Hearthstone Channel. So what are the items listed for sale and who is leading the bidding wars? Who do you think is going to take home the special Card Back, and for how much?
I'm being ironic, there is no Auction taking place, you simply have what you always had, the normal Twitch Bits system being used, this time, as stated previously, donating to this Twitch Channel will get you these free rewards, where as if you do that donation to other Twitch Channels you might get other or no free rewards.
I call it a donation because this is what the Twitch Bit system is, you can look at it as a currency to use in a store, but that is simply factually incorrect, the fact still remains, Twitch Bits are a donation system, whether you like it or not.
It is illogical to think the way you are thinking. You want to look at Twitch Bits as a currency for a store where you want to buy items, you are free to do so, but it is still not the case, it is still a platform Twitch launched for donations, it is still a platform for that, if you look at it as something else other than what it is, you are creating expectations and demands which will not be met.
This is becoming a ridiculous conversation, I've tried to help, it clearly isn't doing much, so I won't bother any further.
What you are saying is perfectly true, however, it doesn’t apply in this context. How can you call that a donation when in this case the donators are clearly expecting something in return ? It’s the equivalent of prostitutes asking for a donation in exchange of sex. Sure they’re calling them donations but the reality is you are paying for sex. I understand that by definition what you are saying is true but sometimes you have to use logic and freaking common sense instead basing everything off their definitions. It doesn’t matter if your definition of the bits/cheering is correct, the reality goes beyond a simple definition and that reality is people are PAYING bits because they want the fucking card back and they don’t give a shit about the teams, how is this hard for you to understand ? People feel like they’re purchasing the card back, EVEN if in reality it’s a ‘’donation’’ even though the entire purpose of that promotion is to make money and make people spend lots of cash.
This "is the cardback free?" question seems very similar to a case the Hearthstone community had no less than a few months ago: the Witchwood preorder.
Extension preorder usually cost about 50 bucks for 50 card packs; with Witchwood however, its purchase would also net you an extra 20 packs, which were advertised as "free" (and arguably rightfully so).
The Twitch Bits case seems similar to me. One could already purchase Bits before, and one still can for the very same price. This time however, using them (within the HGG context obviously) also grants you a cardback (as well as some packs if I remember correctly). Just like the 20 extra packs, this additional, promotional reward is free with regard to what you purchase and how much you pay for it.
This post makes me think about things like "Your month in hearthstone".... They are free but you still expect them. I was wandering what happened with August and just got it... Almost felt like complaining about it, but I realised it's something they give for free.
Thing is, if blizz does not want to say anything or give news or whatever, they can do whatever they want. They do whatever they think is good for the sales, so sometimes that means seeing what users want-need or say, that's ok.
They could even not announce expansions in advance!
I agree that Blizzard should at least give at least a estimated release date, especially for stuff that people paid for like the HGG card back. Even if its not a solid release date that just seems like Blizzard is asking for backlash by not giving any information to the buyers waiting for what they spent money on.
Didn't blizzard almost always do it this way? they announce something and then there is silence - sometimes for weeks before we get new info! or an anouncement for an anouncement and so on ?
They never said anything about a Release Date for said things - so you CAN'T expect anything so far!!
Well, Team 5 has been rather..unblizzard for a large portion of hearthstone. Instead of announcing something long before there's any solid timeline, they'e stayed stock silent until they had a rock solid announce date. This did result in times when everyone panicked over the lack of info but it also meant that once they announced something we were sure it was coming and when.
Recently, probably in an attempt to be more outspoken, they've become more willing to announce things early. The Tournament announcement is the first time I've seen a flat out Blizzard Time. The "Pullback"..well I didn't do WoW so I dont' know if they did it there but the last time I remember they did something like this was Starcraft Ghost. Still, this is also a thing that they avoided for most of Hearthstone's history.
Makes me wonder if the loss of Brode and Co. has resulted in Team 5 becoming more Blizzardlike.

Given that a lot of the outrage we've been seeing is due to these announcements, we might've been better off with silence until they had set dates.
(not saying I'd rather it, but if I was Blizzard, I would be weighing whether the outrage over no news is better than the outrage over Blizzard Time finally coming to Hearthstone)

You think you want this.
You will NOT be happy when Blizzard declares, say, 9/28/2018 as the release time only to be told at 10/1 that they are delaying it 3 weeks. Then having that happen a few more times.
For example, in the past Blizzard never would've said anything about Tournament mode. This time they gave us a release date of 6 months after an announcement. And you saw what happened after they missed the deadline.
So serious question: What would be preferable? Being told in August that something would come out in September only to be told later "Sorry, it'll be October.", or silence until late September then get a solid October date? Or are we REALLY trying to say "Tell me September then GET IT IN NOW!!!!!"
(or we could go the Five Nights at Freddy's route: Be told it'll be in in January then BAM, October release!)
Myself I've lived with "announce, then delay" for most of my time with Blizzard and spent 4 years with Hearthstone's "silence until the date is solid". I can live with either and mostly just want whatever brings less salt and rage to the community. Right now I'm on the fence.
I expected a patch today... introducing the new HGG card back... new ranks... more infos on the purchase of Sir Annoy-O as well as infos on the virtual reward from blizzcon virtual ticket. ´ Sorry but it’s unacceptable to me that they’re so slow to announce everything and even updates.
Seems like a salty rant from an inexperienced player.

One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.
I don't even want a rigid date at least a ball park guess on when we'll get the content. Which Blizzard has shown to do before via pack pre-orders lol
Wow ths post has surpassed my salt expectations
