I imagine because they don't like the deck for some reason is the most rational explanation, but they get downvoted for a multitude of reasons, from trolling to plagiarism, and sometimes even because they don't like the forum member.
I like to try and stay positive though so I like to think the vast majority of downvotes are legitimate. I'd be completely naive however to assume this is the case 100% of the time.
The reasons could be so many it would be almost impossible to list them all.
If you look at any deck on Hearthpwn, you're bound to find downvotes. I understand some of the key reasons why people might downvote a certain deck (no guide, rehash of popular decks, poor win rate, vote begging with no followthrough), yet you can regularly find decks on this site that have none of those and yet still get downvoted. Personally, I've always made my own decklists with guides and have regularly received downvotes along with the upvotes I've gotten. I always believed that it was because I wasn't a legend player. Because of that, I was excited to hit legend this season and post my own deck to this site, complete with a guide. Yet despite fitting all the criteria I believe people would provide upvotes for, almost a quarter of people who have bothered to vote for my deck have decided to downvote it without a single comment to provide insight. Yes, I'm definitely salty about this, but I'm also curious as to what I'm missing here? What else would make someone downvote decks?
Site full of kids and bad players that ain't past rank10. Don't worry mate, I get trough this kinda of problem. They could remove this Downvote Upvote Tool, it's only used for trolls or ragerkids
Still better than reddit ~ the land where the average user's attention span is 2 seconds while they jump from pic to clip.
I've never used reddit, not even once.
Well I have once or twice read a piece of info pertaining to a game when searching for something as the info has been limited, or to find link dumps to watch a TV show or something.
I've never taken part in any of the forum related stuff though, so I have never really gotten the whole upvote/downvote system and I always think of it as if someone is collecting data on us. Either as some kind of social experiment or as a Psy Op to collect information on consumers or something.
You know there's probably big money in selling that kind of data ;)
I downvote when a deck is boring, or when it's a rehash, or when it is just plain aggro / midrange without a cohesive theme... For example, zoolock = downvote; healzoolock = no vote cast; weird aggro demonlock that uses only cards that have a mustache in the drawing = upvote...
Man, this thread is depressing. Make a Spike deck and all the Johnnys will come downvote you for being "boring". Make a Johnny deck and all the Spikes will come downvote you for being "low winrate". You can't win them all, can you?
This is why I don't bother making decks on this site unless someone specifically asks for a decklist from me. It makes me wonder if there are rules and guidelines on what you can and can't downvote people for on this site
Another reason being overlooked here. This applies to anything with an upvote/downvote system, not just decks, but posts as well. On any site with a score system for posts (like Reddit for example), It's not unusual for people to see a post with a negative score and downvote it without reading it because they just assumed you deserved it.
And how do you know that?
Sheep science. When a sheep falls off a cliff, the other sheep will follow it even if it's not the brightest idea. They always follow each other.
This exact same logic applies to humans. When a post is at its original score, no one bats an eye, but as soon as it gets a single downvote, lots of people start jumping on the downvote bandwagon, and that initial downvote can be for a multitude of reasons, not all of which are necessarily justified, such as simply just not agreeing with an opinion (and some people are just duechebags). Even positive comments can get really low scores because someone downvoted it (possibly because that person thought they were being sarcastic) and other people follow suit. This is reinforced by the fact that occasionally, someone might ask why the comment is getting downvoted and then readers will realize the comment doesn't deserve its low score and try to upvote it back to a positive score.
Oh, yeah, you are one of those who love to think people are ******** as f...k. Sheep people exist, but they usually follow leaders or groups of well known people, not some random dumbass or dumbasses on the internet. And when someone asks on the internet why his/her comment is getting downvoted, actually he or she receives more downvotes, not the other way around.
Whoa, take a step backwards for a second. I'm not going to judge you for what you said, because obviously some of what you said is true (except for the first part). By the way, I actually meant when someone else is asking why a comment is downvoted. Never in that post did I imply I was talking about the original owner of the comment asking why they were downvoted, because what you said about that is also true.

- Deck is old and got upvotes in an old expansion. User "edited" the deck during current expansion, but no new cards are in it.
Allow me to give you an advice to this point here: Don't do that.^^
Why would a deck have to contain cards from the latest expansion? You can edit a deck to work in the current meta-game without having to rely on new cards, as long as the older cards cover everything the deck should do and none of the new cards would improve that.

Actually voting has no guidelines, it's just a matter of tastes. I don't have a problem on people voting braindead decks as awesome or my weird homebrews as awful. I just state what I think of a deck "I like" or "I don't like". It's just me, I Can't ruin decks with 100 upvotes! Nor bump decks with 10 downvotes.

That was my thought. But it turns out even if you have a high win-rate, interesting deck people will still downvote you.

Come visit my Card Emporium. Strange things, you will find inside...
