If you look at any deck on Hearthpwn, you're bound to find downvotes. I understand some of the key reasons why people might downvote a certain deck (no guide, rehash of popular decks, poor win rate, vote begging with no followthrough), yet you can regularly find decks on this site that have none of those and yet still get downvoted. Personally, I've always made my own decklists with guides and have regularly received downvotes along with the upvotes I've gotten. I always believed that it was because I wasn't a legend player. Because of that, I was excited to hit legend this season and post my own deck to this site, complete with a guide. Yet despite fitting all the criteria I believe people would provide upvotes for, almost a quarter of people who have bothered to vote for my deck have decided to downvote it without a single comment to provide insight. Yes, I'm definitely salty about this, but I'm also curious as to what I'm missing here? What else would make someone downvote decks?
As you've already mentioned win rate can be one factor, but I've had people downvote decks before because a meme deck (which should be assumed is not a ladder deck) didn't have a 50%+ win rate even though it was clear the deck was more for fun in casual than to ladder up.
I don't have a reason for you but yea it's sad. People may dislike a certain style of the deck or perhaps they just hate the class, idk. There are just a lot of idiots using the internet.

Do they at least say that’s the reason? It sucks that people don’t appreciate meme decks (I love them personally) but even my real ones with good win rates often have downvotes with no comments which really sucks.
It's the internet, and the anonymity makes people mean.
That’s definitely true. I almost wish you could see which users downvoted your decks. I know on BoardGameGeek they show which users upvoted but don’t have downvotes. I feel like taking the anonymity away from it would make people think twice about downvoting but it might open another can of worms regarding revenge downvoting and hatemail
As someone who has been a victim to something similar myself, I can only assume their reasoning. Either it's a personal grudge with the user, something about the deck that rubbed them the wrong way, or it was an impulsive decision. Other than just "they didn't like the deck."
None of your decks are in the negative so I don't know what you're bitching about. If the majority of people like your decks why do you care. It's like you're demanding universal praise.
Not even counting the decks you have with insane amounts of upvotes and views.
Looks like someone downvoted the deck in your sig in the 10 minutes I stepped away form my PC in the middle of reading this thread. I guess you can put down "making this thread and showing the trolls you are sensitive to downvoting" as a reason
On a serious note, it might be a problem with the site. I often find that I have upvoted or starred random decks that I haven't seen before in my life. Maybe it works on downvoting too?
I only do it in one situation - if they are being deceptive about the deck in order to get upvotes and get to the front page. I'm talking about the 85% WR ez legend!!! decks that have a sample size of like 15 games. If it's just a bad/low effort deck I'll certainly not use it, but not downvote it.
Well if you ask me it's a pretty stupid question. There are reasons to upvote a deck and there are reasons to downvote a deck, otherwise there wouldn't be the need to put two buttons. You can't be salty about those little things it's just the natural course of things.
Well i do not know about the others but i downvote a deck when:
a) I see false advertising."I had 100% Winrate! **gough**Against inkeeper**gough**" Or simply when something is claimed without proofs.
2) Vote begging.
3) When the deck is EXACTLY a tier 1 deck that i see constandly on ladder. Do get me wrong, it's not that i hate the deck itself but i do not see the point of uploading something that is copy paste of a deck that everyone already knows about, with no interesting techs or twist. Just copy paste.
Downvoting a deck has to be totally OK, it is just a way to express your opinion. It could be annoying when someone do it without constructive criticism but we have to deal with it. Downvote and comment comes in pair from me for a reason. This is a site which doesn’t isolated from reality. Hearthpwn gives information, is a place for discussions and not just a clear dopamine source like facebook. Negative criticism is essential when we rate any production or creative process.
I give a downvote when
The deck is a copy+paste well known meta deck AND it has no description. It is just a useless filler between decks on this page. Doesn’t make any sense. A copy+paste deck with guide and instructions is another story, it really makes sense and could really helpful. Usually give a comment too in these cases.
The deck is absolutely useless, doesn’t work or it’s a complete joke. In this situations I give some advice or tell them why is it a crap (if it isn’t obvious).
Please leve a comment when you downvote, thats it! Make your opinion more meaningful.
- Deck is old and got upvotes in an old expansion. User "edited" the deck during current expansion, but no new cards are in it. - Deck does not longer work. - Deck depends on crazy RNG. - Crazy 80% winrate decks without statistics to prove it, and a lot of negative comments. I then check the decklist, try a few games, and decide if it actually could be a 80% winrate deck. I use this type of decks to try to complete Quests. - There is, in the comments, a link to a version of the deck that is very similar, and is built in a better way. I upvote that deck. - I tried at least 10 games and I did not like it (any reason may cause this).

I don’t expect everyone to like and upvote my decks. What I’m saying is that a regular trend I experience is a large number of downvotes with absolutely no comments giving any reasons why. Some of my highest rated decks have a third of the votes as downvotes. I try to do everything that is recommended so that I can get a good rating yet still people come and downvote me anyway. Yes, I have some popular decks but aside from s tavern brawl and adventure deck I’ve never made front page despite years of posting and theorycrafting decks that are actually good. What I’m asking for is for people to just not do anything instead of downvoting or at least be honest and write why they didn’t like it. Maybe it’s arrogant to assume it but I feel like I’ve earned a mostly positive rating on my deck because of the work I put into climbing to legend with the deck and making the guide.
In my opinion the main reason why people downvote a deck is because it doesn't look like it's good. Let's say I make a C'thun (oldschool one) Warlock or some deck that has never really worked out in the past. People will see that and already start to be skeptical about it. If the deck is running more absurd cards too then they start to feel like it won't work and don't even bother trying it, causing them to downvote it or whatever. Honestly I think it's fine that people downvote decks for any reason they want to, it's their opinion and they can voice it in anyway that they want. Sure the reason may be "I hate the person and want his family to stub their toes every day" but who honestly cares. Sure it's nice to be on the frontpage of Hearthpwn and get recognition of a deck you made, I don't think anybody would say that doesn't feel good to be applauded for making a good deck. However at the end of the day, who really cares if your deck got 30 upvotes or -3 upvotes, if you had a good time with the deck or a good winrate and other people just don't see it, who cares? You liked it, you thought it was worth posting here. You don't need to have people tell you good job or "I like the deck" in order to feel good about what you made.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I don't have something witty about this deck, I just like it because Malygos is fun.

Fair enough. For me, the biggest thrill is making meta-breaking homebrews and then posting them on Hearthpwn with guides. While hitting legend was definitely exciting, I was actually more excited about being able to post my now "legend" deck on Hearthpwn and interact with people regarding the deck. I've had some good comments and a private message regarding the deck so to that level it has been successful but I think I just had my expectations higher. I know it's a bit weird because most people find that part of the game to be boring, but to me it's almost more fun to theorycraft and post on this site. The same thing goes for board games on BoardGameGeek and back in the day when I played League, I loved making character guides for certain builds. I think I just want to see people stepping outside of the box and trying something new (which was surprisingly rare in my climb, most lists were identical to before), and I thought that everyone would approve of that. I probably am a bit too much of an attention-whore as well though haha.

Depends on the person really.

It's probably the same reason people upvote a lot of trash decks. And in the meantime they downvote a lot of good decks.

Playing Hearthstone since Oct 2015. Favourite class: Warlock.
Aaaand I have 99 skills, but the english language ain't one. :D
I generally downvote for the following reasons:
- Deck is old and got upvotes in an old expansion. User "edited" the deck during current expansion, but no new cards are in it.
- Deck does not longer work.
- Deck depends on crazy RNG.

If your deck is shit, people will downvote it.
The fact it is a zoolock.
Just kidding - There are few reasons
- Deck stolen from user/streamer/youtuber without credits
- Clickbait
- Obvious troll
