So yesterday i had a chance to attend the pre-release Fireside Gathering, it was in a town i live, so i said what the hell. And let me tell you, it was pretty awesome to play with the new cards. Im sure many of you went as well or at least watched the streams, so you kinda know what was happening, but for those who didnt, i captured a few screenshots (in spoilers) and will write some thoughts on the decks we played.
First of all, mechs and Magnetic r so much fun! It will be interesting to see the decks that come to life. Im not rly seeing mech Hunter becoming a thing, i think it might need more support in future expansions, but Paladin and/or Warrior have a chance to make something work. Even tho mech Paladin felt suuuuuuuuuuper slow, with a different approach, it could probably work.
One of the strongest decks among the deck recipes we got to play were Deathrattle Rogue and Demon-midrange/zoo WL.
Rogue's new weapon Necrium Blade makes for an insanely amazing tempo tool. Not only its literally a Fiery War Axe, but you can set up the turn where you play for example Devilsaur Egg or Mechanical Whelp and get the deathrattle right away. And then, chances r your opponent wont want to kill the egg/whelp right away, so you can follow up with Necrium Vial :D Blightnozzle Crawler was another target in that deck that provided quite a nice value, but that was more in terms of removal than gettin on the board. I think an egg-Mossy Horror archetype can be easilly adapted from the hunter here and it can be even faster, not to mention rogue's access to cards like Saps or Vilespine Slayers to clear the way.
And then there was the demon-warlock deck. Soul Infusion worked surprisingly well and it wasnt too hard to hit Doubling Imp or Saronite Chain Gang to provide big value. Throw in pair of Void Analysts and hand buff WL is born :D Another strong card that we saw coming, but were unsure of how consistently would it perform, was Nethersoul Buster. Combo it with Crystallizer or just Flame Imp or even a Hero Power. That card performed very well and i can see it replacing Duskbat in these type of decks for example.
Couple more interesting cards that managed to make an impression (good or bad) were:
Storm Chaser: it can guarantee a Bloodlust draw for a token shaman and with two Bloodlusts and two Storm Chasers in a deck you basically have an almost a guarantee to have it in your hand on T5 in most of your games, so if your early is good, you can close out games fast.
Thunderhead: performed insanely well, as expected honestly. Turns the downside of an overload into "pings"/board swarm. Good statline and elemental tag make this card one of the best shaman cards of the set. I can imagine this being something like a Water Elemental for mage, you can put this card in literally any deck and you will not be disappointed. This card also makes Voltaic Burst a rly high power level card: for 1 mana you get four 1/1s with rush. Which could be used to either trade or to setup plays like The Storm Bringer for example.
Zerek, Master Cloner: im not sure how well will this card be able to perform in an environment with Polymorphs/Hexes and silences, but damn, if this doesnt have potential. Especially in a Quest Priest deck. Vivid Nightmare is an excellent buff to use on this card, since the created copy will already have been buffed with a spell and will respawn when it dies. Speaking about Quest Priest, Zerek's Cloning Gallery helps you complete the quest pretty much instantly and depending on what kind of deathrattle minions you're playin, can provide quite an insane value. It seems super slow, but it actually isnt.
Kangor's Endless Army: i think this card is being overhyped a lot, if you want to play mech pally, you will play a lot of mechs and chances r, you will ress rly bad/weak mechs. That being said, the spell should provide decent enough value for 7 mana on average, but dont expect it to ress three Megazords every game, unless you tailor your deck to that, but at that point, the deck will probably not perform very well.
Crystology: this card on the other hand will probably see plenty of play, since there will be a lot of 1-attack minions to draw.
The Soularium: this card rly is just a mid to late game card, if you plan on playin more than one card you draw from it. Probably the most important thing to realize about this card is, if you are playin Bloodreaver Gul'dan, you cannot play this card unless you have it in your hand, otherwise you risk discarding it. Which might be fine in a given situation, but that is the one thing i feel like you will have to think about the most when putting both of these cards in the same deck.
Omega Assembly: im not sure if i was just super unlucky, but this card performed so horribly i could not believe it. I was constanly gettin Alarm-o-Bots, Meat Wagons, Scorp-o-matics and crap like that. There rly is a huge amount of bad/weak mechs in the mix. I mean for 1 mana, even the crappy mechs r worth it i guess, but i dont think we can expect to pull the premium mechs all the time, not even when you get to keep all three. Leru made a good point, even in this event, there were most likely not BDP mechs in the discover pool yet, which thinking back on it, makes sense lol. So the card will be just fine, tho there will be plenty of bad/weak mechs still, even with BDP included.
Bronze Gatekeeper: this card has been underrated by many, but let me tell you, it is powerfull AF. It might not look like much as a standalone card, but puttin a +1/+5 and taunt on a mech is nothing to joke about for just 3 mana. This will be a staple in all mech decks for sure.
Skaterbot: same thing about this guy, it looks like a little shit, but for 1 mana giving a mech +1/+1 and the ability to trade instantly is a huge deal.
Well, that is it from me. I wanted to make a lot more screenshots, but in the heat of the play i always forgot :D Feel free to let me tell you your experiences and/or thoughts if you attended one of these as well, or even just what you think about what i just wrote. Cheers.
Thanks for sharing your experience! I would like to know how Reckless Experimenter worked for you. I'm so hyped to try this card and I would like to know if it is good or not in a Deathrattle deck with Zerek, Master Cloner.
I havent had much chance to experiment with it. It was in that Quest Priest deck, but there was little to no room to utilize it. One game it killed off the 5/1 Zereks and spawned the 5/5, but that was about it. The card has definitely potential, but we will have to explore that after release :)
Omega Assembly can only fish in current Mech poll since the expansion is not live yet, so ofc you get horrible mech every times :D
Damn, you have a good point! I kinda assumed that the discover pool would have included BDP mechs as well, but thinking about it now, it probably didnt. But that doesnt change the fact, that there will be a lot of bad/weak mechs. The card will probably perform ok, but it will not be as great as we (or i) thought originally.

Maybe you are right but from what I have seen during this pre-release event is that people played awful mech-paladin decks and spammed bad mechs 24/7 due to the restriction of basic cards + boomsday and 0 understanding that every 1/1 microbot will lower the value of Kango'rs Endless Army. People just played their mechs on curve or turns before Endless Army without thinking how that might change Kangor's Endless Army outcome. For example Mecharoo will never be played in a midrange mech- paladin-deck which is build around Kangor's Endless Army, same goes for the 3/1 magnetic deathrattle microbot dude. If you want to play mechs each turn, ye you probably should not expect much from Endless Army and just play aggro-mech and spam microbots. ^^
Kangor's Endless Army is a card you have to build a deck around, similar to priests spellstone/nzoth/hadronox+withing hour/Guldan DK. That does not mean that Endless Army is your only win-condition which would be stupid because you rely on drawing 1x card in your deck but the deck will work better if you try to maximize Endless Armys value without 1/1 micrbots. Nzoth decks don't play every deathrattle minion they could findin their collection, same goes for Guldan DK or decks like hadronox + witching hour were the number of beasts and the choice of taunt minion is not random.

My "problem" with the card is, that it is simply not worth building your deck around. Like you get a big board, big deal. At that stage of the game where you would play it, what does it matter, you will either be dead or a deck that can go the distance will have a board clear. That being said, im not saying the spell is bad, not at all, just dont think its worth creating a deck to maximize the outcome of this. I think its better to use it as a decent play on T7 (or later) to get a sizeable board, but not making it a win condition. It could certainly become a win condition from time to time, but not rely on that.
I am thinking: if you log in at release day, you have a class specific minion or the Dr. Boom hero. It will be your first legendary from the expansion so it will be unique, so as all legendaries you open after (because that is the rule of opening not considering golden versions).
But if someone attended a pre-release gathering, they will receive their log in gift legendary after they opened their packs. Is there any rule that the gift has to be a unique legendary even in this way?

It should be, if not, expect many QQ topics :D I actually opened only like 7 packs to get one legendary, cause i couldnt wait, but didnt open all my packs, cause i want to craft one or two golden before i start opening the rest. So i kinda dodged this, but not on purpose.

Based on watching the streams and videos, new Dr. Boom is a card to date. It looked like it is really, really powerfull.(At least in that Gathering envirovment where full collection was not available.)

maybe but it looked like old arena to me where one player got a deathknight/hero and the other one did not.. which always looks "powerful"

I agree. But theoretically speaking I think he will be good even against other Hero cards. His Hero Powers are generally good and cost is not so high either because you can use your heropower on turn when he is played.
Did you get the powercore card back for attending to the pre-release ?
I got powercore cardback from a previous event (ESL or something), so im not sure i would get it from Fireside Gathering. Fireside Gatherings award the Fireside card back, which i did get (and Nemsy).
