I've been playing Magic: The Gathering and Hearthstone for quite a while, so I'm curious what your thoughts are on something like a Core Set.
And if you like the idea of a Core Set, what cards from Wild Sets would you want in it?
Note: For those who are unfamiliar with Magic, a Core Set contains reprints of old cards which allows them to be played in Standard again while that Core Set is in Standard. The cards within a Core Set are usually mechanically simple, because its target market is newer players.
I like the idea of a rotating classic (core) set. Every year or two the classic set would change. We would get a few new cards and a few cards from wild, but a lot of the cards would stay the same. I played MTG as well and am very familiar with this system. Hearthstone can get very stale if you always build decks with the same cards. I think something like this will have to inevitably happen due to the increasing cast of hall of fame cards.
They could release a new version of Classic at the beginning of every year along with the hall of fame selections. Then, every 3 months after that, a new expansion. Another scenario is they could release a new version of Classic once every 2 years, with the alternating year having an adventure set. I know Blizzard already mentioned doing away with adventures, but this sounds like a cool idea to me.
I completely agree, I play MTG as well, how ever it shouldn't be so big that it changes the identity of any class.
Absolutely. But in this scenario, you may not have Blizzard in Mage or Nourish in Druid for a year but instead have new cards with similar effects. Maybe those cards return the next time but you lose Fireball and Wild Growth for a year. That's just an example.
I think that's our future. Though it'll look slightly different from MTG.
since it's all digital, Blizzard is free to just adjust the Classic set instead of 'reprinting' old cards in a current set. As such they could just do a more expanded version of the HoF system. They've also said that they are interested in adding expansion cards to the classic set.
So they could effectively expand the HoF system to be a wilder spread of card removals and card additions, including, in the future, readding HoF cards as they see fit.
I don't feel it really is about them needing to change into it so much as I think they wil lorganically end up doing something like a core set similar to how we eventually went into Rotations.
Hearthstone will end in someday. they can't design millions of cards. I think we will end up with a new play mode like this.
They will announce a new standard mode which the expansions will rotate season to season like first season kotft, gvg, boomsday, 2nd season Witchwood, Karazhan, TGT etc.
So we won't need core set with this new mode. I think hearthstone will reach that moment.

Memedeck-seeker. Always tries to build new decks. Hates tournements, streamers, netdecks and poor-o players. ah, but a tournement mode could be great !!!

I’ve been saying that for a long time now, wild should be exactly that rotating from month to month.

that's really what I want mostly about hearthstone. It would be great, in my opinion. Wild is extremely huge and we can do the exact thing, ok.
But a mode with 3 expansions or 2 expansions + 1 adventure would be great. We have never seen a meta like that. It keeps alive the game more than this. They should do it before they stop designing because with new sets that would be hilarious.

You forgot the part that Hearthstone its a business, and they earn the money releasing new expansions?

so ?
I don't call them to end the game. I suggest a new mode. I think you forgot that part because we all know they will stop designing in some day when they don't earn money from it. I know there are less people with me who plays hearthstone after it lost its popularity (because new generation of people only seeks popularity) but well look at Skyrim. They (included me) are still playing that game with mods and WoW Private servers which you can play the first days of WotLK or BC.
I don't think its so hard to mod hearthstone to make new modes or cards as soon as the company lets you. I believe it would've been played still When they stopped supporting or designing.
Also they can still earn money from what i suggested with selling wild sets. Because with new rotations with old sets someone will need new(old) cards. This is how pokemon tcgo earns some money still. They did this with evolution packs and they bring back the old physical card game players to online one + they sold old cards to new players which were not born when old physical cards were released. Every day new players pop-up in games. You can't know when they decide to play your game. For example, one of my younger cousin who is 19 now started to play mtg. He has never played a card game before and never saw a physical card game now he is trying to find some MTG booster packs to collect and searching physical players to play together. People like to dig and find new things. Hearthstone will be new for people who weren't born yet.

That is a good idea and we have seen that idea for a few years now. I can imagine Blizzard doing this. However it should not be in place of Wild.
Wild is the original Hearthstone and it makes no sense to cut off Wild as it has always been.
To charify since some people always seems confused (not saying you guys are): Before formats we only had Hearthstone. It was exactly Wild. All cards could be played and every time a new set came out they were added to the Wild pool. Then they introduced formats: Wild didn’t change but Standard was new.

Classic is a core set
...no? not based on how core sets usually operate?

One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.

Dr7 its back!
There is no need for reprints in a game like hearthstone.
It has to be snakes.
so ?

I would really like a new game mode featuring special rules like rotating sets and personalized rules (hero's health, cards etc.).
Don't get why the community is pushing for the tournament mode. I don't really get why they are so hyped about that :/
