and I'm looking for some guidance, possibly coaching with Odd/Tempo rogue.
Never really played the class before, but all I do is play warlock these days and needed to start branching out again.
I crafted myself edwin and 2 x vilespines so I can put together a decent list now (Just missing greenskin, but not crafting him as I literally dusted that card a few days ago... F's sake, it happens again. loooooool)
Any rogue vets want to impart their wisdom or something?
I hear it's definitely a thinking-persons deck, but like it doesn't seem that difficult to play when you're used to playing meme and combo decks.
Any of you guys got any advice or anything for the archetype in general, please? Thanks.
There a a couple of lists out there that are pretty popular, with Zalae's being the most popular right now. I'd advise you to watch some VODs of the deck, but odd rogue isn't TOO complex, though there are some nuances.
If you are looking for lists, VS has 2 listed in their latest report.
What? Hahaha, no, it's not. I played many games with Odd Rogue, and while it requires some thinking from time to time, i can guarantee you it has nothing special to offer in that aspect. It's not a braindead deck, but neither is a "thinking-person deck", LOL. :P
Odd Rogue really isn't that complex. However, one advice I can give is, you need to manage your resources, as the deck has very limited card draw and a significant amount of burst damage. So you need to think about spending those resources on either removal or your opponent's face. It's an aggressive aggro deck, so sometimes, it's better to let THEM do the trading.
Miracle or "Tempo" Rogue is more complex but it's more fun IMO.
Odd rogue is an easy deck to play and fairly cheap if that's what you're looking for. Miracle rogue can be fun but it is pretty weak right now and a really challenging deck to win with unless you get very lucky and queue into a lot of slow decks.
There is also kingsbane rogue to think about. I wouldn't recommend it for standard, but it is disgustingly good in wild. If you like never losing against slow decks and making control players like me lose our minds in frustration that's the way to go.
Heal Rogue is not the same as new heal lock or how is it called. You got zero draw as this kind of aggresive rogue so you cant let yourself to play such cards as Voodoo Doctor, Lightwarden and other cards or otherwise you will need to topdeck every game. You can try to add some cards that can be aggresive by themself. Like Vicious Fledgling, Southsea Deckhand,SI7, I tried Bittertide Hydra and it was ok sometimes, maybe it can work for you too if you got it, also Cobalt Scalebane worth trying but he probably sucks now. I tried to play Edwin in Odd and Tempo Rogue as well and in most games he was 4/4 or just tempo 2/2 :) He is obviously better in Miracle or maybe Maly type of decks since you got there a lot of cheap cards (spells) and also can refill your hand easier.

I seen that zalae's is more suited to games Vs. Control, while the more standardized list is better suited to Aggro. So I am probably going to build something similar to both and use them accordingly. Thanks.
What do you think of the Rogue in my sig? I got it from a Streamer called Dekkster who got it from someone else (I don't know the guys name to credit him)
It seems like it's a solid idea, but not as good as the normal version. It may be cool to try out and possibly fake some people out as well as they wouldn't realize what you had (going off it's probably a niche version of the list with it being sub optimal, so you'd have the surpize factor at least)
I was wanting to maybe try and make this heal rogue better, but I need to understand the archetype properly first to identify the problems with the initial heal-list.

Ah ok.
TBF, what I heard was that you need to think about plays more than aggro so what your saying correlates with this I think. Like another person said bellow as well, it's more about resource management given how combo and such works.
I have a heal version in my sig in the early stages. any advice on maybe making that list more competitive, or do you think it's just going to be sub optimal no matter what given the heal package takes up a lot of the deck? I will at least try it out anyway.

Yeah this is what I was thinking in that you need activators for combos, it's more about resource management.
I thought odd rogue was in the tempo rogue family, in the same way as that even warlock is in the handlock family I'd guess?
I'd also love to play Miracle, but I don't have the cards for it currently. Miracle has a bunch of epics I don't own. I will most likely have to wait till after the new expansion comes out to make that amount of cards. I simply don't have the resources for it right now.
I would love to play this deck, but it has too many epics I don't own and have no way of obtaining currently. If the archetype is worth trying out in Boomsday though it will be something to consider. I mean unless I can build a cheaper version. I'm still going to need at least 4 epics for it I think, if not more.

Yeah I already have the stuff for the Odd Rogue so will be trying this out. I have other decks so it's not my only thing to play with, just really wanted to eventually start playing rogue. I know it ruins Heal Lock as well, and there's tons of them where I'm at on ladder right now
I'm still at the bottom as have been playing my own home brew meme decks this season so far, I played a bit of heal lock and went on a winstreak of like 9 games though, then switched to odd paladin for a quest. I got ruined every game by heal locks and had to switch to casual mode to finish the quest.
I also had been facing some Odd rogues and it looked like a good deck to wipe up some aggro decks. I mean at least that zoo deck, I think odd paladin has better chances.
So am I right in thinking that the older list is for aggro meta and the zalae one with the double rippers and stuff is for control? (I mean he said himself that his list was for a more control-heavy meta so I presume so)
cards I am missing that are good in the archetype. Greenskin, a second void ripper and king mukla. Otherwise I have everything for all the variants I've seen.
I am using Stranglethorn tiger in place Greenskin and just 1 void ripper. I had heard also taking 1 fan of knives as tech to use with void ripper can be good sometimes, but then I had also heard that fan of knives is bad rtight now... I happen to know it's great vs heal zoo, so you think this card is worth taking, please?

I don't agree with Miracle being weak right now. It's challenging for sure, but we have a relatively slower meta right now and Miracle shines in those. I've been winning a lot with it between rank 4-2.

yeah I agree that edwin is not as good in the odd rogue as decks where you can combo him into a higher body, but at the same time there's not a ton to really replace him with so might as well take him.
and yeah, the heal thing does seem to work best in a warlock deck given you can not only hurt yourself, but draw for more cards as well.
I have a heal version in my sig in the early stages. any advice on maybe making that list more competitive, or do you think it's just going to be sub optimal no matter what given the heal package takes up a lot of the deck? I will at least try it out anyway.
I upvoted your deck because I find it interesting. I'm going to give it a try later and see what happens. ;)

Ok. ;)
what is the combo with plague scientist and argent squire? argent squire doesn't have charge, so is it a case of just having a threat on board that has poison and divine shield?
I heard it's good for even paladin and their early mountain giants, but I fail to see how it would work unless it's just an answer to the giant by placing it after, or placing it the turn before maybe to deny the giant?
actually placing it the turn before sounds like the right one as I have done that with stubborn gatsro in the mirror match before.
That sig deck looks like the kind of innovation that I would do. Upvoted as well (or at least I will once hearthpwn lets me >.<)
Make sure to abuse your hero power as much as possible. The weapon is OP for removing small shit in the early game; protect your board with it
Keep an eye on two turn lethals. Stop trading and set up for it when it's available. Bonus points for making it sneaky with burst
In the lategame, save 1 drops as combo activators
Cold blood is for going face. You usually stick it on some minion that is not under threat of being removed and ready to attack. Force the opponent to deal with it after already taking your 4 damage
Zale VODs are great. He explains all of his thought processes and plays clearly so he's a great streamer to watch for learning meta decks
There are plenty of lists without greenskin, mukla and 2nd void ripper. In fact, greenskin and mukla are anti control techs. Just look for one of those lists without them and mix/match to find the right replacement
Fan of knives is a tech card. Metas differ between ranks, servers and time of play. This tech might be bad for whoever you heard this from, but it doesn't mean it will be the case for you. Whether it's a good card or not depends entirely on what you've been facing

thanks.
is the deck in my sig the one with spiteful weaponsmith? yeah I seen someone else using this instead of greenskin. it's sort of a combination of the standard anti aggro list and zalae's list.
I think the spiteful smith will be a great replacement for greenskin, especially if he sticks for multiple load up's of the weapon (greenskin only buffs it once, albeit it's 100% guaranteed damage and 1 extra swing)
The other option would be stranglethorn tiger. I'm not sure in which situation the tiger would be better, but the stealth aspect is supposed to be good to deter certain minions being placed as he can take them out the next turn. If you clod blood that guy up he will take out just about anything.
So really it's a toss up between those 2 cards for that slot, and I will try both.
If I face lots of decks with 1 drops or cards like spreading plague I will add a fan of knives. it will be good to combo with void ripper for taking out spreading plague very easily... it might be too niche though, it really just depends on if I need it enough.
Currently not getting much bother from zoo, but I heard that odd paladin can be bad for us, so having 2 x fan of knives just for paladins could be good? I mean it depends if that would put us in a more favourable light. If the fan of knives is not enough to swing that match up then I'd be less inclined.
PS: I think this is the first minion based deck I've ever played that has no taunts. Is it because this kind of deck is all about tempo plays, so we don't have time to be stalling with taunts? I read that every card must be about tempo, so this is probably why you never see taunts in these decks. I have seen Tar Creeper in some lists, but not sure if it.s worth adding. I really don't know what I'd take out as well at this point to put in other cards.
PPS: I did have a heal rogue in my sig before, was that the one you meant? it's not as good as the spiteful smith one though I don't think. The heal one needs ton of refinement. I lost to a heal zoo playing it and that's supposed to be a good match up for us, so that tells me it's sub optimal.
I was talking about the healing rogue. Are you trying to dethrone Sherman as the user with the most profile updates per day or what? :P
Fan is mostly there for the paladins. The matchup is abysmal so there's some argument for just taking the autoloss and not make your deck bad against other things. But you said it seemed good against zoo, so there might be some merit. My knowledge of face rogue is from before zoo showed up so I do not know the matchup
Spreading plague shouldn't be a major issue for this deck. Just make sure to go tall heading into their plague turn so the tokens get eaten by 5/5s. You can trade away your small minions whenever possible or hold a void ripper to make them trade evenly (2/1s to 5/1). No need for fan
Tar creepers are for preventing the opponent from trading into your more relevant minions. They are good against decks that are board focused or have poor removal options. It's not for protecting your face. It's also a good body for fungalmancer and cold blood. Like fan, it's a tech card that depends on your meta. It loses a lot of power when flappy bird was cut from most lists though
I'm dubious about the tigers and smiths. I haven't seen them anywhere even before greenskin was introduced to the deck. Maybe try a hydra or some options from other mana costs. Smiths in particular requires trading to activate, which by that stage of the game you don't want to be doing
In many ways the deck is exactly like the actual old Tempo Mage. There are times you can get a lot of burst or get snowbally minions, but there are also times that it is better spending a fireball/cold blood minion for an important trade than it is to go face with it.
Calling odd rogue a thinking persons deck is hilarious to me. That's the deck I fire up when I'm hammered (so the deck I almost always play). The only thought required is how to mulligan which becomes muscle memory after a decent amount of games.

What I meant was that it's somewhere in between. it's probably like intermediate tier.
I had just heard people saying you have to think out plays turns ahead to manage resources. It sounds more difficult than say Odd Paladin by comparison. But is it no way like some 10 card combo or anything.
but yeah dude, it's less daunting anyway knowing it's not as tough as some had made out to me. I like the way the deck plays with the resource management and stuff. It's very different to what I'm used to playing meat wagon decks and control lock.

but yeah dude, it's less daunting anyway knowing it's not as tough as some had made out to me. I like the way the deck plays with the resource management and stuff. It's very different to what I'm used to playing meat wagon decks and control lock.
