They’re gonna milk this game as much as possible until Artifact and Gwent 1.0 comes out aren’t they? It was bad enough that they were charging $50 to preorder loot boxes, but now there’s a second preorder option, the Mega Bundle.
For those who don’t know, the regular preorder bundle is $50, and comes with 50 cardpacks, the Mecha-Jaraxxus cardback, and a free golden legendary card.
Now the Mega Bundle on the other hand is $80! What do you get for 80? You still get the cardback and golden legendary, but instead of 50 cardpacks you get 80, as well as an alternate Warlock hero portrait: Mecha-Jaraxxus.
That’s it. That’s all you get. For $30 more dollars you get a few more glorified loot boxes and a skin. $80 for a hero portrait, and it’s one that the majority of people will want too. This is beyond ridiculous. For two years they have been offering hero portraits for free where we had to do something to get them, like play WoW, or go to a Fireside Gathering, or beat Frozen Throne. They were all great. But now, they’ve locked a skin of a very popular character behind a $80 preorder paywall, that once the expansion launches you can’t get it anymore. They also said there are no plans to rerelease Mecha-Jaraxxus, so anyone who wanted to get that skin are out of luck.
I cannot fathom how ludicrous this is. $80 and all they’re offering is a skin, a skin that is highly popular. I know why they did it too, because they know people love Jaraxxus so they made him an expensive preorder bonus.
I beg you, do not buy this Mega Bundle. Vote with your wallet. Show ActiBlizz this is too far and horribly anti-consumer.
Alternatively, don't buy it b/c it's just a cosmetic skin...
Pretty much the reason Epic Games has made 1 billion + in a single year from Fortnite. It's all cosmetics. That billion $ is all from cosmetics. It's all from cosmetics! This is a tremendous incentive towards other companies chasing after monetized cosmetics, because the potential profits are huge for little effort by the company. You can say don't buy it, but the reason it was made was so people would buy it and you can't really ignore that. Blizz is basically trying harder to make greater margins on the same content they sold for much lower sums in the past.
In fact they are selling the same content for the same price as always, actually even slightly lower considering that you get a free golden legendary. The pre-purchase bundles have always been 50 packs for $50, $1 per pack. The only exception was Witchwood with 70 packs for $50, some $0.71 per pack. Now it's back to the one-to-one ratio, but with a free legendary and a cosmetic skin thrown in to incentivize people to spend that money.
Obviously the mega bundle is not aimed at ftp players to convince them to go from 0 to $80. Not even at causal players who play a few times a week. It is made to tempt people who would pre-order anyway, because they play every day, to spend a little more than usual. And I guess that's working pretty well.
And if you are not generally and fundamentally opposed to spend money on Hearthstone, both bundles are the best deal you can get, the next cheapest option is 60 packs for $70, $1,17 per pack.
By reading your post it seems you exaggerating how important mecha jaraxus is for player base "This is a popular icon in HS", "oh it's just cosmetics but this hero is soul of the warlock", but in the just like you said we can still play warlock even without mecha jaraxxus.
To be honest I never spent money to play hearthstone because i feel its expensive, but i know there is a lot of people who willing spend their money in this game. If i may say they are a loyal consumer for blizzard, people who willing to spend money for pre order packet. Rather think mecha jaraxxus is the hero that blizzard sell for $80 why dont you just think that mecha jaraxxus as a token of appreciation by blizzard to people who supporting this game. Because if all player like me we dont even get to play HS right now.
In business perspective it's just like you said that Jaraxxus is one of iconic character in HS. to further increasing the sale its fair for them to release limited time jaraxxus for fans to obtain. I guess this practice is commonly used in all business sector by limited their product it gives more values to it.
If you feel that their decision unfair for you for not rerelease the mecha jaraxxus it is because you only looking from your perspective, but from people who already buy it it's unfair for them if blizzard rerelease MJ. Maybe some of them work their ass of just to buy this mega bundle so they can show off MJ to their friend. If you think "they don't work their ass of they just pay it to get MJ" you never know how they collect their money. Maybe some people spend their yearly saving so they can buy it.
In the end this is just limited collectible item if you feel it is worth the price feel free to buy it and i think lot of people feel that it is worthed.
I think it is important to differentiate that there are some paying players complaining, as well as some ftp people who want alternative ways to acquire the skin, and quite a lot op people, paying and ftp, who say "to each his/her own, get over it". As to be expected in 30+ pages and 650+ replies.
Am I the only one who thinks blizzard is actually being more generous with the preorder this expansion? Normally, it would be just 50 packs for $50 right? Now you have more than one choice, they give you a free golden legendary and a skin.
I guess really the only people who would be mad about this are people who try to make themselves feel superior by being ftp, because they are actually wanting to preorder this time and are jealous. But if they pay blizzard any money, they can't whine on message boards about not getting the freaking skin they want.

Sure, it's better value but you're paying a lot more.

They're kinda tricking you ;)
u still pay 50$ for 50 Packs AND a golden legendary which is MUCH more than 20 Packs as value.
Would you rather pick a RANDOM golden legendary over 20 packs? And thats in a new set where you have 0 cards?
To me, the 20 extra pack deal, is far better.
btw... a random golden legendary = 1600 dust to spend of your choice. 20 packs, avg. on 2k dust, and has far greater value in a new set, where you don’t have cards.

What do u smoke?! 20 packs aren´t even close to 2000 dust... it´s about 800-1000 dust avg.... and with the golden legendary u get 1600 GUARANTEED. Know ur facts before u write something that stupid.
My main point is that you don’t have a single card from the new expantion, and therefore has a higher chance of getting cards you don’t own. If the prepurchase value would be the same as witchwood you’d get 70 packs instead of the 50.
also the avg legendary drop rate from packs are 1 legendary every 25 packs.
If they gave you 3200 dust in addition to the packs instead of a random golden legendary, I’d say this would be a far superior deal, but a random one wich most of the time are either being dusted to craft a single legendary or being kept since its golden, makes this deal feel like 1600 dust on top of the regular deal.
Also take into consideration that a pack with the lowest value contains 260 dust worth of cards if you have none of them from before.
Someone made a very interesting spreadsheet where the value from the WW expantion compared to theese new deals. Take a look at it, it’s posted on this forum.
You're moving the goalpost. First you say 80 packs for $80 is worse than the Witchwood deal, and when the golden legendary is mentioned you compare the deal to the $50 pre-order. The mega-bundle is fair compared to both.
Buying both pre-orders gets you $130 value. You're going to need to do better than saying it's a lot of money because you're also getting a lot of packs. You asked what the fuck is wrong with people who pay that much but let me ask you, what the fuck is wrong with you when you're expecting the value of your purchase to grow exponentially the more money you spend?
The entitlement argument is correct, you're not entitled to the hero portrait. "Strawman" isn't some magic word that suddendly makes the opposing argument incorrect when it isn't.
All Card games are by nature like this...........it's like pre-ordering a mtg card set.......only its virtual and It's cheaper.
You can say that its not physical cards and so its should cost wayyyy less................actually now that i think about it.........there is no delivery charge and minimum taxes involved...........and minimum spending on blizzards part.............WOW!!! thay ARE quite expensive..........
So I get what you're saying, but think about it this way: this is a trading card game on a mobile platform. Think about how expensive it is to get into MTG. I get what you're saying about the hero being locked behind the mega bundle, but many TCG's including Pokemon and Magic don't have a pre-order deal like this. Don't get me wrong I completely understand where you're coming from, but this is at least another way of looking at it. Also imo, Blizzard consistently produces quality product, so for me I am okay with giving them my money for an *objectively* better deal. Idk, that's my two cents lol.
I just preordered the $50 one (HS is my vice). I would have liked the Jaraxxus portrait, but a $30 paywall? F that. The expansion isn’t that good. I’m not really excited about any cards, and what were they thinking with those busted Druid cards??

Better give it a chance before you think the meta is decided. Most people, including the "experts", turn out to be wrong about a lot of shit.
I just have to say that I'm old enough to remember the 50 other times people were trying to threaten Blizzard with leaving for upcoming games. Anyone here play WoW? "Fuck you Blizzard, Age of Conan is next month" How'd that work out for you? "Fuck you Blizzard, Old Republic / Aion / Guild Wars / Wildstar / City of Heroes / Eve Online (admittedly I love this game) / Final Fantasy XIV / Star Wars Galaxies is out next month!"
I'll check out Artifact and Gwent as I'm sure most of us will, but something tells me Blizzard has learned not to piss their pants at a few salty players who likely aren't paying anything for this game anyway.

Enjoying Americans winning in the Olympics is forbidden because it is political. A 14 plus page discussion of state-sponsored lawsuits against a multi-national corporation based on harassment, discrimination, and wrongful death allegations is apparently not political enough to raise an issue.

@SuicidOr Salty F2P players always find a way to blame Blizzard because they can´t get the Skin.

Actually it's fun to see how the pay2win players are all ranting about the deal, and the F2P don't give a damn.
