You could argue that it should because WoW has tokens that can be purchased with gold that pay for a full month of time for the account. If Blizzard were to allow pre-orders with gold, do you think 10K would be about right, 7.5K or 5K? Either way, Blizzard doesn't have to comply with the public, and there's nothing wrong with that.
This sir is a cracking idea, and if Blizzard have any sense it's something they'll be looking into as a way around some of the frankly barking knee jerk reactions countries are having to "loot boxes" as I see a disturbing trend where people are trying to say packs like these and loot boxes are the same whereas all they are is similar. Get around it by letting people only pay for gold in game and then what they spend that gold on is entirely up to them.
You're probably fairly close to the mark suggesting 7.5k

Arguing on the internet is like playing chess with a pigeon. You may be good at chess, but the pigeon is just going to knock all the pieces down, take a shit on the table, and strut around like its victorious.
So people spent a load of money on an expansion they have only seen what, 6 cards of? What if the expansion ends up being crap? What if the meta is still dominated by the same old archetypes and you just needed few dust to craft a few new epics to make your decks a bit stronger?
OP's points are kinda meh to be honest, he really misses the point that everyone is buying a preorder for an expansion they have barely seen any cards of, mostly because of the golden .gif image slapped on it. What if the expansion ends up being very weak and everyone got baited because of that? Yes, it could also end up being very op too and what not, but shouldn't everyone be a bit more rational and less compulsive, and analyze the expansion a bit better instead of jumping on the golden stuff bandwagon right away? That is my biggest gripe here, people really just mindlessly throwing their money to things they don't even know. Since Blizzard is Blizzard it can't just run away with your money or some scam like that, but there's still a chance this just ends up being a filler expansion, which is more or less the same.
Yes, I get it, people can do whatever they want with their money, but they should really think twice before trying to give incentives to any industry to do bad practices that could end up horribly.
I buy every expansion. There are always good cards and bad cards. This is pretty much the only game i play. I try to play console games with my kids now, and they just don't do it for me(other than Madden).
See, at least you make some reasonable points about it. Again, people can do whatever they want with their money and all that. And if that were always your plans, that's great. But the people that go "OOHH SHINY GOLDEN SKIN I MUST PREPURCHASE ONLY CHANCE TO GET IT!!!", yeah, that's my problem. They are just falling for a trick. Yes, you can legitimately want the skin too because it's cool and all of that, but a lot of people just get hooked with the "LIMITED TIME OFFER!!!!" thing so much, it almost feels like a marketing strategy to boost the sales on a random expansion that could just be filler you know?
I honestly don't think there's very many people who haven't been buying packs and are going "OMG GOLDEN SKIN MUST HAVE OMGOMG!"
Most people who are buying these pre-orders have been buying pre-orders for a while now. Most probably would've been buying packs if no pre-order was offered. We're all going "OMG cool skin" but only because it does look neat and we're jumping on the hype train. I mean I'm on here going "OMG yes this is cool." and I couldn't get any of this stuff even if I wanted it. I'm already all set in what I plan to do with my money so I can safely play around with their marketing campaign. I believe most are in the same boat.
Though there IS something you can bring up for caution's sake. While buying the pre-order does have benefits to the payers (discounted cards and the golden legendaries..and the skin if that's your thing) there ISN'T a benefit to buying it NOWNOWNOWNOWNOW instead of right before the expansion. It's still $50/$80 and Jaraxxus is still there, but you get to know the cards you're going to get before you buy if you wait.
So honestly there's no point to buying NOW. Even if you are 100% sure, you harm nothing in just waiting till the card reveal, and you avoid the non-zero chance (..yes.. whoever wrote that, it's now a part of my language. I already caught myself using it IRL) of getting something you regret later if you find out you don't like the cards.
I'd like a more expensive one, I'd rather do like 200 packs for $150 and get all of my pack buying in one fell swoop. Go ahead and tell me why I'm wrong.

Because that's not really what they're doing with this bundle. The 'added value' is a new hero portrait, instead of giving you a discount for ordering a bigger bundle, but that would be a great idea. You're not wrong to want that. Neither am I to want a cheaper bundle.

Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before destination.
I agree mecha jaraxxus was a dumb idea. Let's base a hero off a preexisting hero card that has largely fallen out of use.
Furthermore, I believe the hero will be available at a later date for ftp, if you look at the wording in the deal it says "right away". "Right away" carries an implication. No need to get up in arms about a pay wall.
The people I disagree with are the people justifying the price of the bundles, saying "get a job". Not everyone is a billionaire where money is no object. Get real.
They rised the number of packs (50-70) in pre-order for last expension due to relalised its a bit stupied to pay full game price for only opening 3/1 part of an expension. (if you are lucky to open 3 leg at least
(bdw i've just stop buying anything on hearthstone after frozen throne expension)
I believe most of you watched the streamers card opening seramony, as we all see, we need to open at least 300 packs for playing an expension. (well kripp actually opened 1000 packs for all cards)
and now you just thinking to pay that aaa game price is okey for buying 35% of an expension....
it does not matter you have a nice sallary or not. its all about ethics.
we need to open at least 300 packs for playing an expension.
What?! Your statment is totally absurd. I may still agree with you about "ethics", but no one is forcing anyone to buy packs: those who are willing to do so go on, the other can still remain F2P and be competitive as well.

Comparing the entire card set of a collectible card game with "100% of a game" isn't really accurate. Card games aren't designed for you to have all of the cards of a set. It's designed for you to collect SOME of the cards then to come up with a deck designed around what you have received. It's just how card games work. It's why I say that people who have a 'collect them all' nature should stay far as #)(# away from CCGs and focus more on games designed around obtaining all of 'something'. Pokemon is a better choice of a collectible game.
The amount of cards you actually need depends on what you are actually trying to do. Casual players, for example, really only need enough for a few good decks. about 80-100 handle that. Competitive play needs more of half of the expansion (just about all of the commons/rares. Most of the epics and a good portion of the legendary). It's really only collectors and professional streamers who need to go past this point just to have everything. Collectors just Want to have it. Streamers need to entertain their community so they need good cards, fun cards, and even some bad cards to fool around with. of course the last not only are buying packs to earn money through viewership (and can get more money from that than the initial cost) but since it's their job they can get a tax write off as well since it's a business expense.
(thus those folks who open 1000 packs on stream aren't being as foolish or money wasting as it first seems)
The only people who really are seeking out EVERYTHING in a card game like this are either effectively getting paid to do it, being very foolish, or just have that much cash such that it really doesn't matter to them.
Point is, card games run on different mechanics from other games. It's in their nature. You can dislike it, but then you don't see me in League of Legends complaining about why the game sucks if you want to play solo.
How is it absurd? 1 dollar a pack is a great price.
In Canada that bundle is 100 dollars - You wanna talk about a ripoff?
Well, here in Poland it's 219PLN regular/300PLN big one, which gives you equality of ~59/ ~81 US dollars. Considering the low PPP of my fatherland's currency it's kind of ripoff too :< moreover price of a new fresh pc game here is about 200PLN, and those are just DLC's this sucks duude :<
OP I love the fact that you make an edit addressing people calling you entitled and yet you talk about how preordering is bad and you never preorder and all that....
....Dude do you understand that people aren't claiming your entitled because you preorder games or anything like that. People are claiming you're entitled because of the LANGUAGE you use! Edit 3 is the biggest joke I've ever read since honestly you throw this entitled things under the rug for you explaining why you don't preorder stuff.
This thread has been enlightening; I've always wondered how Jim Sterling manges to keep an audience.
The whole anti-micro transaction sentiment is baffling. Sterling seems to fall on the side of folks who think that customers have no concept of responsible spending. Others are fairly transparently jealous of those with more disposable income. Either way, I'm glad that in this case the "take your ball and go home" crowd can't affect the bottom line enough to matter.
If a bunch of folks actually quit the game over this issue, Blizzard will change their practice. My guess is the second bundle offering will be a significant uptick in their revenue and we'll see more of this in the future. Four months later, we'll get to do 25 more pages on capitalism vs "don't let paying customers have what I can't have". As I said before, Blizzard's financials are available for all to see. Hearthstone is anything but a dying game, and I doubt Boomsday will change that.

I think it is really abusing, and I'm done with this game, can't believe it came to this, goodbye, blizzard cashgrabber
I’m not going to preorder either. In fact, I think I’m done putting money into HS. It’s a personal decision though.
I don’t have any aspirations to be a high legend player, so I just play for fun. I preordered The Witchwood, enjoyed it for a week or so, when it was fresh, then got bored and stopped playing. And that’s pretty much the pattern for me, every expansion. Compared to AAA titles, that’s pretty poor value. But again, maybe it’s me...
I have saved some dust and gold, so I’ll craft a few new cards and have fun. Perhaps I should just craft the power cards and periodically mess around with Wild. I wonder if I’m growing out of HS though, so maybe it’s time to move on. Like Brode.

With few exceptions most triple A titles only last me a week.
I watched the totalbisuit vid about preorders the OP posted. I dont think this even applies to what tb is saying, this is the same game you have been playing for at least 3 years, not much have changed, and like every expansion there will only be a small fraction of cards that will see play, you already know what you are getting. You are obviously invested on this game seeing the wall of text you bothered to post, its just the case of you either have the money or not, 80$ to support the company that made the game you enjoyed for years.
