I'll get the $50 deal... as long as the cards are worth it. I wont buy before I see the cards, but it's sad they dont replicate Witchwood's expac, best value by far. Agree with OP though, $80 is absurd. Someone else can enjoy the skin, and I'll be fine with using 3k in gold on packs I earned rather than my money.
Do you really care about this "demon in a can"? Blizzard already allows you to play with the greatest warlock in the history of warcraft so there should be no alternate hero for warlocks. Gul'dan is the one and only warlock, same goes for Thrall in regards of Shamans so actually you can't complain.
This gnome riding a fen/bog creeper or this demon in a can are just silly and stupid and not even worth being called warlocks.
I love that anyone who disagrees with you is a "shill". It's not possible that they are simply more interested in purchasing this product at the discounted price than you are, and that this is in fact the entire premise of capitalism.
You're making a bad faith argument based entirely on an emotional appeal and dressing it up with fake high-minded rhetoric. Which game are you actually shilling for: Gwent, or Artifact? It's "obviously" one of those. /epic eyeroll
1$ a pack isn't a good deal no. I'm paying my games at average 60$ each without reduction. And I usually buy during sales with a reduction from 33% to 75%. If I wanna play the Blizzard game of preordering, Hearthstone would cost me 150$ a year. That doesn't seem like a good deal. Even if you considerate that those are expansions-like, which means non-required to play (here competitively), those should cost 30$ for the whole thing, not 50*5 rdm cards. With that bundle, let's add 30$ to the bill. 180$ total per year. IT'S F***ING ABUSIVE. And I live in EU, where money is more accessible. And what prevents Blizzard from doing this each expansion. Nothing. Except from us customers. I mean, at least Khadgar was offered when you donated to WWF.
Hearthstone is a f2p game if you spend enough time on it (at least once a day, which already is too much imo), but Blizzard slightly tends to make it less and less viable each year. 2 years ago I could have 3.5k gold to buy an entire adventure and have 4-5 legendaries. Do us a favor Blizzard, make it so we can preorder with gold.
You have the decision about this bundle, even if I disagree, it's your choice, and if you're happy with it, I am for you, truely. For my part, I'm not buying this, and I will not encourage this already unbalanced buying system to become even worse.
1) If you're F2P- you don't care b/c you're not paying for anything anyway and any complaining is just the same old whinny F2P stuff. You're still gonna get your free packs leading up and your free legendary.
2) If you normally buy the preorder, then you got it + a free golden legendary- thats better than normal (granted maybe not better than the WW special but compared to a normal expac). So there should be no issue
3) So the issue left then is the skin being put into the 'premium' deal. I think 2 preorder options are great, it's really only a win/win. Offering a premium deal lets Blizzard make a little more cash and give options to folks who want a little more out of their preorder and are willing to pay for it. For me, unless the skin has been free- like with the last 2 rotations- I haven't been able to get any other skin. I'm not going to pay for just a skin and I'm not interested in all the other things I have to do for other skins for free- but for an extra 30 bucks I get 30 packs (which is a good deal) + a skin...I'll do it.
Nobody is forcing anyone to do anything. Blizzard is selling there game with two options: an improved standard deal OR a premium deal OR both. I think I already get enough free stuff and special events as is (its way better than it was even just a year ago). So unless you're just whinny or greedy, you will get a good deal for whatever you want to spend.
people (like OP) just dislike the idea lock a skin behind paywall and we have 16 pages of shitstorm like now
they are, last time it was 50$ for 70 packs, and don't even start with that golden legendary, that is worth a lot less then 20 packs, plus it is a price increase for the best card-pack and that's clear. how can you deny that?
It's easy to deny it. Personally, i prefer the golden legendary, you wanna know why? Easy.
The WW preorder was 50 bucks and 70 packs. The Boomsday is 50 bucks for 50 packs plus a golden legendary. This is clear.
1- Once you open 50+ packs, the dust returns of packs start to be diminishing. This is, you start to get a higher frequency on duplicates and therefore packs tend to give the player 40 dust, not the regular 100+ dust.
2- A golden legendary is equal to 1600 dust. This means that you have to open 16 packs that average 100 dust each, something already hard enough considering that you have to average that number in just 20 packs, and you also have to dust each and every card in those packs.
3- A golden legendary is WAY rarer and harder to obtain than any other card, and with this offer you already have it. You ALREADY hit the jackpot! With the 20 packs, you'll get WAY less than those 1600 dust, and it would be extremely rare to get a golden legendary.
4- A golden legendary, if you dust it, means you can craft a legendary of your choice. The importance of this is paramount. I would 100 times prefer to choose the legendary i want to get, than praying to the rng gods so that i get a legendary in those 20 packs in the first place, and then pray again so that it is the legendary i want.
Whether a golden legendary is worse than 20 packs or not is arguable at best.
So, please think twice before typing next time, and give it a little thought.
Wow, the math on this post is really really bad. Let's take it from the beginning:
1) 100 is the average of what you get if you dust EVERYTHING. It's not the median (which could be as low as the minimum of 40 dust), but it is the average over all packs. Otherwise, if you had nothing then just getting the bare minimum of 4 commons and a rare would be worth 4*40+100 = 260 dust to you.
2) Breaking the packs into 50+20 and saying that 20 is too small of a sample size to hit the average is kinda disingenuous. On average people who get 50 packs will get 5000 dust and people who get 70 packs will get 7000 dust. Let's keep it as simple as that, if you used creative math you could say that since the median is 40 dust then the most probable outcome for opening a single pack would be 40 dust, so 70 times that would be 2800 dust. Which in reality is less than you'd get from 50 packs. Math can lead to pretty unrealistic results when you aren't careful with your assumptions.
3) You are correct in saying that you wouldn't typically get a golden legendary in 20 packs. If you care about owning golden legendaries this is the better offer.
4) If you're planning on disenchanting it to craft a legendary of your choice though, again the average is called average for a reason, on average people who buy 70 packs end up with 2k dust more than people who buy 50 packs. So I believe that if you want a gold legendary this is the better deal, but if you would dust it to craft a legendary of your choice then the 70 packs total are better. And the reason for my belief is that 3200>2000>1600.
And don't get me wrong I think that the mega bundle is a decent offer for people who like to buy packs to complete their collection, it just gripes me to see math used incorrectly to support either argument. Also if people are getting hosed with this deal it's probably people who like to play arena and also like jaraxxus because they would need to fork out $80 exclusively for jaraxxus since the packs are useless to them. I can't completely relate because I don't care that much for cosmetics, but I would feel far more sorry for them than for people who are *forced* to live with the second best preorder offer that blizzard has ever made instead of the best.
My math was off, i admit it, but the point still stands. We're basically trying to argue whether 20 packs are better than a golden legendary or not. And i say 20 packs and break it down that way bc that is the difference between WW and BD. In one, you got 70 packs while in the other, you get 50 plus a golden legendary.
So, let's assume in both preorders you open the first 50 packs. Those are done, those are the same in both expansions.
Now, do we prefer 20 packs or a golden legendary? This is the real question. In 20 packs it is extremely unlikely to get a golden legendary. On this we already agreed. We also agreed that if you want a golden legendary, this is the better deal.
Now the thing is, can 20 packs provide with 1600 dust or more? The answer is on average yes (unless quite unlucky, which can also happen), you gotta dust everything you get (no matter it's duplicate or not) and then you can craft a legendary of your choice. Therefore we can conclude that the 70 packs deal is better than the 50 plus golden legendary deal by a margin of approximately 400 dust, this is true.
However, it is still a pretty good deal, not a demonic heresy like some here want to make it seem. I know your point was that the math was off, i'm aware bc i wrote the answer without paying much attention to math, but what you cant do is ignore the fact that you are indeed getting a golden legendary, like a bunch of ppl in this thread are doing.
It's easy to deny it. Personally, i prefer the golden legendary, you wanna know why? Easy.

Whether a golden legendary is worse than 20 packs or not is arguable at best.
So, please think twice before typing next time, and give it a little thought.
I would,if your arguments were somehow valid or true.
Argument 2 is in my favor, you point out that that golden legendary is worth 16 packs, but that the golden legendary is very rare. That is true, but again, you point out that it is worth 16 packs.
In argument 3 you completely ignore the fact that there's a big chance that legendary would be unusable in any kind of competitive decks, don't pretend that you would have been happy for a golden Splintergraft. And you completely ignore that golden doesn't mean nothing for the actual game. That's just a nice visual effect. You like it, we get it. We don't care.
Argument 4 is invalid, yes you can craft another legendary with that 1600 dust you get for dezenchanting the golden one, but you can do more if you decide to dezenchant the contents of 20 packs, cause with that proven 90-100 avg dust per pack you'll have 2000 to spend.
In the end argument 1 is straight up A LIE, a big BIG LIE, this video will prove you wrong ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlOTNtUvhe8 ), no, really now, it's 90-100 dust per deck if you dezenchant all the cards in that said decks. If you don't already have that card and you would otherwise craft it it's times 4, so it would be 400 dust value per pack if you don't have any of the cards.
"So, please think twice before typing next time, and give it a little thought. "
In argument 2 i point out it's worth 16 packs. Therefore you lose out on 4 packs, and that's assuming that you average 100 dust per pack on those 16 packs. Personally when i bought 15-pack bundles, it was very rare for me to end up with 1500 dust, but anyway we will assume that. It's still a better deal than all the preorders previous to WW, and it's definitely not the wicked sorcery some try to make it seem.
It doesnt matter if the golden legendary is usable or not, and it doesnt matter if i like goldens or not. It only matters that you can get a legendary of your choice, while in the 20 packs you are not guaranteed a legendary, much less the one you want, that was my point.
You later assume that 20 packs will net you more than a golden legendary. Yes this is possible, though it means you have to dust ALL cards you get and even in that case there are chances that you end up with less than 1600 dust. Also, this point contradicts you statement that i lied on point 1. If you need more than 50 packs to start getting diminishing returns (probably i was indeed wrong in this point, as i believe you need 70-80 packs or so to start getting mainly duplicates) that means your collection still has many holes. Therefore, in those extra 20 packs you may fill out many commons and rares but you will definitely not have enough to craft a legendary, bc you wont dust all your cards.
Now, it comes down to personal preference if you want a bunch of commons and rares or a single legendary. But still, my point was that the value is similar to that of the WW. Both here and in the HS forums, ppl are throwing a tantrum bc the feel ripped off, and actually they are not, this deal is similar in value, maybe slightly less than WW, but still much better than any other preorder up to date.
And let's not get started with Mecha J, that is even more value in the mega bundle for those 80 bucks, but that's another story.
Wow, there is a lot of salt and complaining in this thread. Jeez.
Who cares if the last 70 packs for $50 was a better deal. Getting packs at $1/pack is a good deal, period. If you're a kid, or an adult without the necessary disposable income, then don't buy them. I'm a hard working adult who enjoys Hearthstone and plays it a lot. I am happy to blow $130 to buy both preorders and then have literally everything I need for the entire set. Hell, I spent more than that just out at the bar last Friday, and that experience lasted for a few hours. I'll get to enjoy playing with these cards for a year.
If you play HS for an average of 1 hour a day for a year, that $130 means that your fun cost you .35 cents an hour. Good luck finding many activities with a price/fun ratio that good. A 2 hour movie by comparison probably costs you about $7/hour for your entertainment. Drinking 3x craft beers at the bar over an hour equates to $18/hour.
If you don't want to preorder, don't preorder - its quite simple. No one is forcing you to buy anything. Want to send a message to Blizzard? VOTE WITH YOUR WALLET. It's all they understand.
You nailed it dude. I don't get the nonstop parade of bitching. This happens EVERY new set. If you don't have the money, or don't want to pay, then DONT BUY IT. Pretty simple.
I agree $1 per pack is still not a good deal. I feel like maybe 50 cents per pack might be within reason for normal, non sale price. But obviously blizzard will keep the price high because they are raking it in and there's no shortage of people willing to drop hundreds on this game
It's a lost cause OP. The shills and dipshits will buy this shit up in droves while fervently defending the practice while whining about the "whiners", and ActiBlizz will continue doing this since it will be a justified model.
There's a very good reason I haven't spent a dime on this game in over two years.
You should EXPECT to get the best deal each year during the first expansion of the year and slightly less value for the second/third expansions.
WHY?
Business Psychology - The beginning/end of a standard year is a natural place for people to start/end playing Hearthstone, thus it is the best time for Blizzard to give an incentive to existing players to stick around, and the best time to draw new players in with a great deal. On average this is the best time for blizzard to make an investment into maintaining/growing the player base.
Blizzard MUST know this as they are far to big a company to not monitor stats on these things. Their prices and deals will always be carefully crafted to maximize both current profits and long term property value.
Yknow. Some people will disagree with you. It is fine to disagree. And it doesn't mean they are wrong @op. I read your post but im not gonna read 19 pages of comments. But from your edits you make it sound there is no POSSIBLE other outcome other than you are right. I dunno man. I'm pretty happy to give money for the bundle. I voted with my wallet. I bought both and I am happy with it. I don't think I'm wrong and I think your arguments are poor. That being said, I don't think you are necessarily wrong either. U do you.
It's a lost cause OP. The shills and dipshits will buy this shit up in droves while fervently defending the practice while whining about the "whiners", and ActiBlizz will continue doing this since it will be a justified model.
There's a very good reason I haven't spent a dime on this game in over two years.
If fewer people buy it, they might eventually lower the prices.
So far they have been giving more gold/dust and made the real-money deals more generous, but not cheaper.
If they think they can make more money by lowering the prices, they will!

You are absolutely right, if fewer people are willing to pay the prices they are charging they will lower the price. The problem you are running into is that clearly you are among the more fiscally stingy of their player base. As a profit driven company Blizzard probably pays more attention to the prices of packs than they do anything else about the game (ie: design, content, etc.). This is actually how it should be, since a company failing to make a profit on a game they develop, will cease to be a company as will the game they are making cease to be.
Among those willing to pay for a product, there will always be those who would pay almost anything (whales) and those who would rather get the product for as close to nothing as possible (OP?) The job of a good company is to look at the stats and analyze where to price their product to maximize profits. Some people will drop out of this system every day and others will join it. As I said in my earlier post, this is Business. Studying stats, evaluating human psychology, figuring out how to continue providing a desired service and maximizing profits/growth.
Thus if Blizzard has actually gone too far, you will see them correct it quite naturally. This thread therefor comes across as a sort of anti-advertisement. Aiming to devalue the market to convince the average player to move their value for the game down. The only problem is that even if the value comes down there are likely to be new players who were to stingy to even pay for the game who now complain that the price is still too high. So these threads won't go away, they will just serve to be a counter pressure to the whales.
Therefore, even though I am happy to pay the rate Blizzard has set and I find it to be value to me, I appreciate those of you who serve to apply counter pressure to the market value.
Everybody saying that "$80 for 80 packs is a great deal" is comparing the prices of HS preorder to HS regular prices, instead of looking at what that kind of money can get You in other games. More so, without cards You essentially cannot play the game, it's not like they just throw out expensive cosmetics. The cost of all that is bullshit, but I've accepted the gold grind and since Gadgetzan I've stopped buying packs (and I used to buy the preorder of everything once all cards were revealed since BRM). That being said, with all the grinding I do, I want to be able to access all of the games features and cosmetics. If I could buy Jaraxxus alone for $10 I would consider it, but since I get all the cards I need for gold, then I would essentially have to pay $80 JUST FOR THE HERO PORTRAIT because the 80 packs are pretty much worthless to me. This is bullshit here. Tying content to extremely expensive bundles of shit that You might not even want or need. If the only way to buy a $100,000 car was to buy $500,000 worth of McFlurrys would You consider that good deal? I wouldn't.

U do you.
If fewer people buy it, they might eventually lower the prices.
So far they have been giving more gold/dust and made the real-money deals more generous, but not cheaper.
If they think they can make more money by lowering the prices, they will!

the only thing i woud be upset about regarding the hero skin is if they dont give us the choice to buy it for 10$ like the other skins
I dont like being forced to spend 80$ if i want the hero
I wouldn't.
