I've read a tonne of threads and done a heap of research. Investing way too much time into learning the nuances of the game and how to best approach the many different aspects of it. I've got a pretty good handle on where I'm at now and where to go next. I'd like to just throw my ideas out there for some brainstorming and see what ppl think!
I've "unlocked" all three regions. It seemed somewhat counter-intuitive to a primarily F2P player, but it allowed me to open 3x "early game" free packs, 3x free legendaries, 3x dailies.....you get the idea. Now I can be pseudo-infinite in Arena too. I just need to manage my dailies and make sure I don't miss out on any for already having 3 in a region.
The legendaries and epics I've unlocked are attached
I'm mainly homebrewing at the moment when I'm not playing Arena, just because I don't want to jump the gun on crafting. I've made my own dodgy version of a Cube Hunter in Europe, and I've got a half decent Tempo Mage there too. When I say half decent, I mean for someone who has only been playing for 6 weeks and is learning by making decks with limited cards and testing them out.
I read this article yesterday https://www.pcgamer.com/hearthstone-the-25-best-legendary-cards/ and am contemplating crafting Baku (I've thought about it since I started basically) and also Aluneth (it's used in a tonne of decks and would make a huge difference to my Tempo Mage). Other than that though I don't want to be crafting too much.
I'm starting to get prepared to save up for the next expansion. I believe I'd need around 6k gold from what I've read? But is that even the right strategy for me when I'm happier to unlock the cards through Arena? I'm assuming that 6k target is for ppl buying packs at expansion launch? Therefore, what numbers of gold and dust should I shoot for if I'm happy to unlock them in Arena?
Consciously not crafting anything other than WW and Classic - and 95% just common cards. I realise I'm most likely to open those cards, but I'm not spending much dust, and it's just to make some decks playable. I'd prefer to wait til 2 weeks into the next expansion before crafting any other cards. From what I've read though it's better to craft legendary & epic as it'll take those cards out of the "pool" so there's no concern with dustable duplicates. Also I'm assuming crafting doesn't effect pity timers?
Speaking of which, I got an epic (Witch's Cauldron) 4 WW packs after another one (Mossy Horror) in my Americas account, with a Classic epic (Far Sight) in between those two. I'm assuming that each timer is expansion-dependent, and I just got really lucky getting one after 4 packs.
Regarding packs - are there any bonus legendaries I can pick up easily? For example I got Marin the Fox from my first K&C pack (bought in the GIH deal) in Americas. I can't remember if I got anything else similarly easy to get (and whether Marin is worth it as I never play the card). If there is I can do whatever needed to unlock the pack - like if there's a legendary for the first pack of each expansion I'll just go buy one of each from the other two regions.
I'm starting to learn about the metadecks through HSreplay - I'm trying to get an understanding of what cards have a lot of flexibility. I don't want to craft cards and realise they're very specific to a certain deck, then have that blow up in the next meta. Hence why I mentioned Baku and Aluneth.
The only way I'm going to learn about synergies, and then how to counter opponents is playing decks repetitively and building a bit of a "muscle memory" for it. Dunno how everyone else does it, but unfortunately for me I can't really absorb knowledge too well just by reading about it. Makes this thread a bit ironic eh!
Anyway, that's about where I'm at. I did consider a while ago disenchanting a heap of cards in the two "secondary" regions so I could focus on 1-2 heroes, but then I realised that probably wouldn't be a great idea. The dust gained from the loss of cards isn't really justifiable, and if I dust a legendary it just goes back into the queue. I will DEFINITELY be dusting gold cards though, I think they're pointless (though I appreciate individual's opinions on them).
So for now I'm just gonna keep playing Arena - I'm working the pity timers into my spreadsheet, I'm hoping to automate it to some extent so that once I enter the cards I unpack it updates how many packs til the pity timers run out for each expansion within each region. Then I'll play Arena dependent on the next legendary/epic to drop.
Would it be worth buying packs with gold from Un'Goro onwards until I get an epic? They're obviously rotating a year sooner than WW and future expansions, and I'm willing to take a bit of short term pain to get longevity. I wouldn't think it worth it buying more than up to the first big drop as I don't want to burn up my future expansion gold!
That's about it for now. Thanks for anyone who's gotten this far!
Man you didn't even try and make thay easy to read. It's a bio.
Play more, save dust for expansion.
:'(
That's the ASD. Sorry, I know I "talk" too much. Just trying to make sure I get everything out as I have trouble getting across what I'm trying to say - I know.....hard to believe yeah?
You have probably heard this, but you are guaranteed a legendary in the first 10 packs you open each expansion. So, you can open packs from each expansion (1 at a time) until you hit a legendary from each. That's a good place to start. If you can go infinite in arena, do it. It doesn't get much better than that. Dailies only take you so far haha. As for the next expansion, if you're confident that you'll get the cards you want by playing arena, you don't have to save anything. I normally save 3k-5k gold (I'm F2P) for each expansion as my 'pre purchase' haha. Feel free to friend me if you want to ask more questions, I play on NA jaybaseball1#1802
For me arena isn’t worth it. This is because arena gives you the latest packs and Im only interested in gold. In the middle of an expansion I should already own all the cards I want. The ideal strategy is saving up gold until an expansion hits. At launch you spend around 10k gold on packs and after hitting the pity timer you immidiately begin hoarding gold. Simply completing daily quests gets you there!
I never said I support arena, I personally hate arena and never play it unless I get a free run. I actually have a very similar strategy for new expansion pack opening. However, I do not record my pity timer, I stop opening packs when I get a lot of of the commons and rares so I have most of the cards to play with.
Feel free to friend me if you want to ask more questions, I play on NA jaybaseball1#1802
Thanks man I'll hit you up. I'm never getting infinite on Arena, but can be "pseudo-infinite" in that the daily quests across 3 regions > my spend across those three with Arena.
I realise that it's not the quickest strategy, and I have heard about the strategy that Rwl..... uses. For me the challenge of playing, learning, and hopefully getting packs "cheaper" with the offset of Arena rewards is a lot more appealing at the moment than a bulk buy at the start of an expansion. Though I can just imagine the rush of opening 100 packs at once!!!!!
I also need as much experience as I can get playing.
Regarding the guaranteed legendary. Thank you! I knew there was something like that, but I wasn't sure of it. I got two of the GIH packs for Americas but none for the others - just the welcome bundle. So a good strat could be to buy those packs until I get the legendary as you say, and then use the rest of the gold in Arena for the new expansion. It would be investing a good chunk of gold in cards that will go out of rotation next April, but I think it may well be worth it. Who knows I may get the legendaries after 4-5 packs - and hopefully the epic too.
I would recommend playing wild. Get the staples for archetypes over time, and buy adventures for your main. Over time new expantions will become less expensive because new archetypes requires less new cards to be viable for the format. I do understand your strategy regarding buying packs from witchwood, but try to see the long game here, unless you want to throw a lot of money at blizzard 3 times a year.

Further to that - if I used the Arena strat I could stop playing it once I hit that point where I had the cards I wanted.
I'm starting to get a dust % from Arena in Americas. Does anyone have a % of dustable cards where it would be inefficient to keep getting packs from that expansion? I've had 15 dusters from the last 6 WW packs (50%) in Americas - I'm thinking that's getting close to being not worth the investment and time to start saving.
I would also recommend not dusting cards you know are overpowered. Dusting card by card are always better then “hitting the button”. Almost every expantion stuff gets nerfed. And blizzard announced early that they were looking on cubelock etc... keeping stuff with similar power level to old corridor creeper, old cubelock, and old spiteful, always brings back the decent dust value you should have got in the first place.
Its also always more cost efficient to get new cards when opening packs then getting duplicates. If you have a small collection it might be wise to spread you gold on different expantions instead of going all in on one.
also try to keep track of pity timer. Epics are 1/10and legends are 1/40 I think. On avg. epics should be 1/5 and legends 1/25.
buying one pack from old gods gives you cthun, wich with some enablers allows you to play a lot of class dependent cthun archetypes.
the old adventures was the best value you could get for your money if you exclude the welcome bundle.

You can't exactly buy 1 WotOG pack without spending really $$ which is definitely not worth it for C'Thun... (Wild set packs aren't in the store anymore)
I had been reading about ppl saying it's best to invest gold in "unlocking wings" - was that the old style of adventures? Different to what's available now? Cuz that's something that I just haven't been able to figure out.
I finished Frozen Throne with one region (and as far as I'm concerned they can keep their bloody packs in the others! #@$%$#%@) but I did complete the prologue in all for the free DK. There doesn't seem to be any cards of packs available in K&C? I'm working my way through the WW adventure just to get the quest packs. Couldn't care less about a card back for completing it!

It's a great theory, but knowing what's OP is gonna be really difficult for me unless there's a list somewhere?
The last adventure rotated out with year of the raven. Old adventures consisted of multiple wings wich used to be 700g per wing. Each wing gave you some neutral cards and class cards. Previous adventures are: Naxx, Brm, Loe, and Kara.
-The OP cards are more or less educated guess and are easier to figure out if the meta is unhealthy. If some decks are just ridiculously strong due to some cards, and the same cards makes appearances in other decks, that’s a good nerf indicator. If no such cards exist, blizzard has to add more cards to the pool in order to break the game. They’ve done so multiple times before.
I’m also not a fan of dusting cards unless I have the maximum amount of the spesific card that’s allowed in a deck.
im also a veteran who has played since 2014, and benefits from having been able to play through the expantions. However, my kid has an account aswell, and I’ve made some smaller investments to that account in order to make some viable wild/standard decks. She can play a lot of archetypes, but some decks has suboptimal options, and some decks are fully optimized. The account is about 1 year old.
Be aware that kft, ungoro, and Kac will rotate next year. Personally I still am getting those packs for my kid, but she’s playing both formats, and so am I.
Why do you think Aluneth is flexible and used in a lot of decks? It's used in exactly one deck - tempo mage.
Good point inus95! I think what I meant was that I enjoy playing mage and I have a few different Mage decks - I know who would be considered a tempo mage, but I don't know archetypes well enough to be able to label my decks! But I think that Aluneth is a powerful, highly rated legendary that would make a big difference in my various mage decks and will have potential to be strong with future expansions. Just my assumptions really.

So in my first KFT pack I got Arfus (who I think is really cool) and I thought it would be easy! Pack 5 of Un'Goro got me Hemet (who looks like absolute garbage) - only 7k worth of dust away from the Shudderwork Shaman now...... O_o
I gave up there for Asia as I was getting low on gold.
Europe I got 2 epics in my second KFT pack - Arcane Tyrant, and Spiteful Summoner. I then got Jungle Giants in my second Un'Goro pack. I did vomit in my mouth a little from getting a quest card!
It is totally worth buying 10 packs from each of those expansions. You will have 3 new legendaries in total where you can make new decks around. I can tell you from experience, because I packed Kalimos, Primal Lord and Hadronox this way and still enjoy playing those
Also you get a lot of commons and rares and a few epics, so your 3K dust won’t be wasted.
Conclusion: buy the 10 packs from an expansion, and then move on to the next until you got all of them, it will pay off, even if you get bad legendaries.

Yeah mate I'm doing that - just one at a time until I get the legendary from each. Really low on gold and I want to save some for Arena, but in time I'll get those legendaries from each of the expansions and have a nice addition of cards :D

First of all, arcane tyrant is a good card. Secondly, Jungle Giants (which I also pulled a little over a year ago), is actually halariously fun in my bad standard maly druid. You can play around with it a lot. I do realize that most good 5+ attack minions are legendary (lich King, etc...), but i wouldnt dust it right away. Hemet isn't bad if used properly, in a mid-range deck, he's really strong when you draw him late. I disenchanted my Hemet long ago tho, bc at the time, he was like, the worst legendary ever. Idk man, at the very least it's 400 dust each. Definitely save until the rotation at least.
Well, I would limit yourself to only one region. Why? Because although when you are just starting you can choose the most favorable of the early pack rng, once you are past that point you simply wont be able to dedicate the time required to play on three regions.
So pick the region you have the best cards in, and stick with it.
Next, I assume you already did this, but there is a free DK in the frozen throne adventure, so make sure to get it if you havent already.
If you actually like arena, play it, otherwise dont. I am a pretty good constructed player, but I am typically unable to do much more than break even with buying packs playing arena. So dont do it.
You should craft baku, but dont open any more WW packs. Save for the next expac.
hope this helped, have fun!
