I've been experimenting with a ton of decks recently. Most are trash, but I do have 2 that I'd consider "good". 1. Odd paladin 2. Pew pew odd hunter.
I've attempted odd decks with all 9 classes but the other 7 are mostly trash as I dusted my original collection, so not many legendaries. Though I did recently drop $20 on this game. $5 for starter bundle and 2 get in here bundles, which netted me an astounding 1 legendary and 2 epics.
Regardless of the deck I build, it seems I'm always one step behind on what class is popular. I play paladin, I face a ton of elemental/spiteful mages, cubelock, dragon/spiteful priest. I play hunter, I face a ton of taunt druid, odd paladin, quest warrior etc.
Basically, I start playing a deck and it's like every player knows it! Which has resulted in an abysmal win rate of about 6-8% which is on casual! On ranked it's even worse!
I don't understand what I'm doing wrong, I do my best to make the best plays, learn from plays that didn't pan out and study what to expect from my opponent.
There's only so much I can do when my opponents use cube on that dang 3/8 spider! Or my opponent has tons of AoE cards killing my paladin. I'm more than willing to put up both/either deck list but long story short, I run mostly a ton of 1 cost and 3 cost minions, usually stuff like stonehill defender, argent squire etc. 2 level ups and vinecleavers, 2 corridor creepers, 2 fungalmancers, etc.
With hunter, I run clockwork automaton x2 and Blackwood pixie(?) x2, plus a ton of small cost minions to run into my opponent. Yet the deck runs out of steam by turn 7 or 8.
I don't have any good legendaries for either deck. Though I'm trying for Leeroy Jenkins and maybe the DK paladin. Also the quest for paladin as I run about 7 spells that target my minions. But until then I can only work with what I got.
Whichever deck you play, if you have %6 win rate it should about piloting. Watch more youtube content from professional players about the deck you play. I assume you are in the rank 15 territory btw. If you are higher, you need more optimal decks.
You don't need the DK paladin for an odd pala deck, don't waste your dust. You want your buffed hero power to flood the board with 1/1 then level up them or fungalmancer them and stormwind champion them and go for the kill asap. You don't need the quest either, even if you buff your minions. You want to get on the board from t1.
Odd hunter is weak in the current meta - it's more midrange- and combo-oriented meta and everyone has taunts/board clears in their decks. 1 board clear and you are done, gg, finito, go-home-done, since you don't have any reliable card draw except tracking. And people usually muligan for that 1 board clear because they expect the damned spellstone on 5, so you kinda need 1 board clear by that time.

Odd Hunter is not well positioned in the current meta. I suggest you try the Hybrid Hunter. It can really crap on slow combo decks with Mole into Razormaw or make solid tempo plays with Spellstone. It is really cheap with only legendary being Rexxar and only other rares and commons.

Multiple Times legend player here. I too was struggling to win any game. The meta is too "diverse" to win with any deck. Congrats to all of you who wanted a diverse meta. Since this games is all about RNG, what a diverse meta does is make winning games 100% matchmaking RNG. Also if you queue into 5 counters even after changing decks in between then you become salty and you just feel like getting through the games quickly and you start making mistakes even in the match ups where you are supposed to be slightly favored. This is human nature and streamers aren't humans in this sense as they play 10-12 hours a day and are trained to overcome salt. Also money is a motivation.
As a result I uninstalled the game a couple of days ago. Enjoy your "diverse" meta where even a rank 20 player can defeat Tom60299.
It's quite difficult to have an "optimal" deck it seems. I'm currently at rank 19. But I'll definitely try watching some other videos.
The Hunter deck is fun and all but I've won about 2 out of 14 games. Didn't really expect it'd do super well considering every single deck is all about stall now.
With pally, I'm getting a win every 4-5 games simply because I'm facing decks packed with legendaries I could only dream of getting. I'm not honestly sure how players are supposed to break in to the scene with such overpowering cards that'll win an entire game on their own. Which was why I've been forced into aggro decks. Try to kill early. But I don't have cards that are good enough to go long term.
That's definitely been the second biggest issue. Opponents have board clear but I don't. I can honestly say I detest running aggro decks for this reason. But I can't compete in long duels with my current collection. So i guess its back to completing my daily quests and just avoiding the game until the next day.
My girlfriend started to play hearthstone and she has a rather incompetent collection. I built a zoo deck for her and we had a duel. I won a few times then she said it's all about the deck. We exchanged the decks and i still won all the time.
Ofcourse deck matters. It matters a lot. But you can still do wonders and even get legend with f2p decks. You just need to get creative and learn the ropes. If you have the knowledge about your deck you can make tweaks that can even double your winrate for specific matchups.
Obviously i played thousands of arena games and even more ladder so you can't do it on the same level as me. But hey this game is not that hard. Watch kripp, trump and savjz. Kripp plays arena, which is about making stuff with trash tier cards. Trump is a nice teacher and savjz plays off-meta decks mostly which can broaden your horizon about deckbuilding.
I would suggest not dusting so much. If you really need dust, try dusting cards that you know are never going to see play, like Bite or Furious Ettin. Doing otherwise is almost always a horrible idea.
Last season I started the month rank 8 then after 100 games I finished the month rank 8.
No matter what deck I play I can't win more than I lose. I will always average 47-50% winrate which makes climbing ladder slow and frustrating. I don't have time to play hundreds of games in order to get rank 5, it's not even worth it.
Looks like I'm not the only one struggling to break 50% winrate in order to climb the ladder.
Hearthstone isn't a 'game' so much as an interactive experience. How many hours are you paying a week? If it's less than 40, consider a different game, perhaps one that actually is a game.

Free to try and find a game, dealing cards for sorrow, cards for pain.
Amongst my 5 different accounts, I had attempted to use DK Rexxar before. Though now is a different story. So I'll see what I can manage but as for the moment I'm missing that card plus a handful of others. Most I can craft through daily quests so that's no issue
I've actually been watching those 3 for a most my time playing. I don't know, it's always like I can't fully grasp the concepts or simply don't have the cards. But I try anyways, I do enjoy HS much more than most other card games.

Dont dust cards. Just dont. And if you netdeck expect that everyone knows what are you playing.

Check out my entry for this week's Card Design Competition. Vote for it if you like it.
Unfortunately it's taken 5 different accounts to learn that lesson. Though I dropped money on it this time to try to avoid that temptation

I think I know what I'm talking about.
Zoolock, my friend... You won't find a better budget deck with which to learn hearthstone.
same here, i just have odd pally and otk mage.
i did exactly like you did and now im at rank 13 , 1 week ago im at rank 11 almost reached checkpoint 10 rank.
if im using odd pally, i meet hadronox druid, even warlock, big hunter or recruit hunter, quest wariod with many clearing spell.
if im using otk mage, i meet otk inner priest, secret aggro mage.
so im playing some dungeon hunter right now

I had to learn that the hard way unfortunately. Now I don't dust anything but copies. Helps that I invested money, serves as a deterrent .
That's DK Rexxar with Cube right?
I'd be happy with a 25% win rate!
Just to grind out the 100 gold a day. I'd like to get a couple thousand coins saved up for the next expansion when it drops
