I'm just wondering how many of you 'auto-squelch' your opponent?
Recently, I've come across 2 types of players.
The first type is an idiot. They're usually playing Quest Priest, Kingsbane Rogue or Secret Hunter. They are completely silent the entire game until they feel like they are winning against you. Then they keep emoting with the "Wow" or "Threaten" multiple times every turn. Then you play your winning hand, and they either rage quit, or simply concede without so much as a 'well played'.
The second type stays silent for the entire game...no greeting or anything. It's not until they know that they are going to win that they emote, "Well Played".
I'm wondering if these players have 'auto squelched' me at the beginning of the game? And if so, why?
HS is a social game against another human being. I always greet the player, and when they make great plays against me, I always emote "Well Played!"
It's an empty experience though when you only get Player 1 or Player 2.
I always greet and say well played when I lose or win. It became like a habbit. I just can't stay silent when the game begins. And I have noticed - most of my opponents greet me back when I greet them at the beginning of the game. It's a nice feeling. I've tried to play without the greeting - but it felt so silent, strange, unnatural.
And I usually don't squelch anyone, unless he/she starts spam-emoting (which happens very rarely).

When someone emotes "Well Played", most of the time it's sarcastic. Like, when you make a misplay, often you'll get emoted out of sarcarsm. It's annoying. Immediate squelch for them.
There's so much drama behind emoting. Who cares? They're buttons. You're allowed to press them. People act like you're some kind of a jerk if you greet while making a game winning play. Personally I don't get too upset if my opponent doesn't respect me. He's just a name in the corner of my screen.
I always squelch ppl who say greeting emote at the start. they are more prone to emote during the match which can throw my focus away from the plays. I just say hello back and then squelch. if I just lost a match I immediately q into next one and squelch is the first thing I do.
I’m pretty sure everyone auto squelches when they face Anduin or Nemsy.
I would never squelch someone playing with Nemsy, I love her emotes :), but sadly I don't have her. :( I can't understand why some people don't like her, she is awesome! :D
When I realise I'm playing against an unfavored matchup, I usually autosquelch to avoid being frustrated at the other player.
When I get spammed (that's rare), I usually squelch, but I sometimes find myself spamming back when he/she makes a mistake or loses. That's usually the last game of the night for me because I hate feeling that way because of a video game
back when i played Mobas if Autosquelch wasn't an option i didn't even play the Moba, but in hearthstone? i like to give my opponent the benefit of the doubt, i mean if i get salty over things why couldn't other people? behind the screen of an emote spammer there can be a nice normal average person that just had a really shit day and may have finally gotten things going his/her way.

Except if they are playing an aggro deck in casual. An emote spammer that plays aggro in casual is never a nice person, ;)
I auto squelch everyone and pretend I'm playing versus an AI.
Now if I'm being serious, I don't think Hearthstone is a "social game" even if it's multiplayer. Everything revolves around the single-player experience (your collection, your rank, your wins) and the opponent is just someone you have to beat. Even when there's a cooperative Tavern Brawl, you can't really communicate using emotes, so they, in fact, serve no purpose beyond being a bit meme-y and nice to listen.
So, since emotes are distracting (a Defile turn on the rope can be lost because of an emote) I auto squelch everyone. I do emote from time to time, but in the same sense that I emote when I play versus the AI. It's not because I want to communicate, but because I want to listen to my character.
(I do communicate with the "wow" if something strange happens during the game, though).
This guy gets it, Hearthstone is far from being a social game. It has a very primitive chat or ways to interact with other people in general, the gameplay most of the time is "single player vs single player", most of the social aspect of the game happens in forums, streams or youtube. When you add other people most of the time you barely ever talk with them or really play games or modes for fun (because there's never anything interesting to play with other players), it's mostly to trade or complete quests. Hearthstone does nothing to enhance the social aspect of the game, unless you count fireside gatherings, but most of the times those are made in between groups of friends or already existing communities.

Why do these people play? :( Genuine question.
No idea, but I always emote greetings and well played whenever something amusing happens
No but most of the time i regret my decision...
Same here. And that happens not that often.

I auto squelch. If they greetings before I get to it I greetings back.
Emoting doesn't enhance the experience for me, but it can definitely diminish it.

Because they find it to be fun ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Just chill dude. People can choose whether or not they want to emote super often.
I must have awful luck, I dont auto squelch, but I get a lot of emote spammers. After the second or third spammed one they get squelched.
If you are in your first year of playing please read this post.
Dust does not burn a hole in the jar. Be careful what you craft, especially before and right after a rotation.

No, not unless they start spamming emotes. There's no reason to squelch every time when most players just say well played when the game is over
im a salty bitch so i know better than to not auto-squelch

I squelch if they do anything beyond Greetings or Well Played, and not as a BM.
