1. Start with tier lists. Loosing makes a deck less fun. Even if you don't care about rank.
2. Start off with the cards you have. What can you craft with only a small outlay?
3. Also look at the deck lists. What cards are 'core' to the strategy. Can you create a budget version to trial the deck before crafting the full version.
4. What style of deck do you enjoy? Aggro? Control? Smashing face with huge spells or minions?
5. If you have decks already, then which style of play are you missing?
I often watch Thijs’s stream. He often plays off-meta fun decks that can actually do good. That’s where I usually get my inspiration from.
I try to be creative in my own deck building from time to time, but the decks and ideas I come up with usually don’t do very well. So most of the time it’s just netdecking and playtesting to find out what’s fun for me.
Lol I don't consider meta/tier list, I play what I enjoy. Then, if the deck is strong (BSM for example) I play it on ranked, if it's only a meme deck (Burgle Rogue) I play it on casual. I'm sitting at rank 3 now thanks to an homebrew elemental mage ;)
"The flow of time is always cruel... its speed seems different for each person, but no one can change it... A thing that does not change with time is a memory of younger days..."
I also look at flavor or theme, but that is typically about single cards (eg. Moorabi).
I never craft whole decks or packages. If i miss too many pieces, i just ignore it, at least until i drop some of the required cards (eg. I'd love to play Wild Quest Mage, but i just miss all the expensive cards, and the deck itself is not really worth it).

Hmm.. been seeing a lot decks but it doesn't seem fun or reliable. How do you guys decide what deck to craft and to play them?
Mostly from tournaments. You get a mix between strong meta decks and occasional oddballs. You also get commentary on the deck and get to see it in action by a person who knows what they are doing.
I focus on 'what's interesting' rather than 'what always wins' so if I see a deck and go "OOOOOOHHH, cool" I'm crafting it, even if it means writing the list myself by watching the stream (though that doesn't seem to be required nowadays).
Most people are full of shit. They go to this site, copy and paste DIRECTLY from a deck list and play. Zero thought put in their deck building.
i would guess 5-10% of players give a rats ass about deck building... IN A CARD GAME!!! At the minimum people should be changing 3-5 cards to personalize the decks. I for one use decklists as a guide, but I physically add the cards by dragging them into the list so I’m more familiar with the cards, and change around 5-10 cards at the very least, sometimes more. And guess what, I still rank up!
First I look on various sites what decks are good and/or stronger on the meta, then I check which cards I'm missing and then decide if they're worth it or too situational, then try to look more info like videos or streams of the decks I like and then proceed with the crafting, I usually go for the one I'm closest to have complete unless there's something that looks incredibly fun. That has worked perfectly for me, I can play anything at this point but maly/togg druid and shudder shammy I'll probably start workin on those next ( my last big dust spending was last week om recruit hunter, was missing, kathrena and 1 devilsaur)
Personally I play only mage and paladin since I begin and only relay on them. It’s easy to make decks for only two classes and I don’t have to spend too much dust(+ I dust all the other classes cards I earn). Right now I play with Murlock mage and it’s one hell of a ride at rank 1, this deck always surprise the other players.

How many times did u top deck fireball or pyroblast to win the match when opponent had lethal on board?
Im asking cause i see a lot of that when mages run those skill intensive spells.

One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.
1. Save dust and watch streams to decide which kind of deck you would like to play.
2. Get drunk on the weekend and log in on HS and craft random legendaries that seem cool to your drunken self.
