I find myself winning more on ladder and in arena, when I play in the early morning or late evening/night. Guess people makes more misstakes when they are tired.

Makes sense, that's when I would always head to the casinos to play poker. It's not foolproof on hearthstone though since there are a lot of people in different time zones playing on all the different servers, so late night for you might be early afternoon for your opponent.
That's how i felt when I was two wins from hitting rank 5 for the first time last month (I started playing the previous month). I ended up beating a legend player at rank 6 (wtf matchmaking) and it felt good. Now that i'm at rank 5 I have no ladder anxiety and I just play whatever.
I'm playing a lot of arena again - and though don't suffer from ladder anxiety, except at rank 1 in the past when making a legend push, I definitely start to feel a little anxious on an arena run once north of 7 wins...
Honestly the best thing to do is embrace it - how many video games give you that sort of feeling? It's pretty cool and kinda unique IMO.
The first time I hit legend I was the same way. Very stressed at ranks 5-1 in particular.
This season I've stopped caring so much. I hate the most popular decks (Odd Paladin in particular) and don't want to play them. I'm just going to try and have fun playing a deck I generally enjoy and see what rank I hit.

Past 10 is incredible, I literally get an adrenaline rush during the game. You have to love it!
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I wasn't planning on going for a run today. But those cops came out of nowhere.
I loved when they added rank floors every 5 ranks, but now I also get bad ladder fear. After this months reset I'm starting at rank 11 and I know I'm just a few games away from sitting comfortably at rank 10, and playing all kinds of fun and experimental decks. Until then, every game feels like such pressure! My quest druid hasn't lost a game since the nerfs, but I can't bring myself to play more than 1 or 2 games in a row.
Writing this post was cathartic and quest druid is OP. Was an easy hump to get over. One turn 5 concede to odd paladin (no swipe vs coin level up) and the rest were EZPZ. Sitting nice at rank 10.
It's probably an unpopular opinion but I'd be a little annoyed if someone gave me a free entry into legend. It's like saying "I'm better than you, but I'll give you a free pass this time". It just kind of takes away some of the feeling of earning it I guess.
I’ve adopted a new “casual” strategy for Hearthstone this month. Since I used to suffer from Trigger-happy losing streaks, I have taken to a new method of playing:
Basically I play 1 game. Just one. Regardless of win or lose, I put the game down and do something else afterward. This gives me a clear head going into each game and time tonreflect on the deck etc. Sure it might take me longer to get anywhere but I have found myself winning more games this way with a lot less salty frustration when things dont go my way.
So now I find myself at an interestingly awkward position. I had a nice streak of wins and now I am sitting at rank 6 with 5 stars. And I have analysis paralysis. I kind of dont want to play that last game because #pressure. Usually it doesnt bother me but it’s actually got me paused at the moment.
Anyone else find themselves in similar situations at the edge of the next rank ledge?
I don't know about tilt and losing streaks, but this is the exact opposite of what you should do if you want to get over ladder anxiety. I used to have ladder anxiety too when I was new but it is 100% gone once I started playing more casually on ladder. Don't overhype ladder games and make them this special thing you only have one chance at per day. Play more ladder; use your meme decks and do your daily quests there. You can start doing this at the rank nets if you want. I never play casual. Once playing ranked becomes "just another ladder game", you won't have this problem ever again. I find that I usually end season at higher ranks than I used to before this system because I'm getting more games in, even while playing garbage
I have some advice that I give on these types of threads that people usually like and that is: "don't be afraid to lose". If you focus learning the right plays and focus on improving as opposed to trying not to lose, the wins will come anyway. If you look at each game as a practice round you won't be nervous. When you are nervous it's hard to pay attention to the cards the opponent is playing and thinking about which cards you would respond with and therefore your underlying skill can't develop. Don't be afraid to lose, it's ok to lose - strive to win!

*shrug * :-)
I guess that it's all subjective really. I've been playing this game since 2014 (wow, that seems a long time ago now! lol) and I have always found certain times provoke anxiety levels more than others. Early on it was when getting close to legend ranks where it got intense, then when they added the rank ledges it became systematically more noticeable at those points.
Climbed 5 to 3 the other day using quest druid. Like a 13 win streak vs slow decks. Then yesterday lose streak back down to 5 0 star. Pretty frustrating. Like it feels like the game has a very smart algorithm that tries to keep me close to 50% winrate and match me vs decks that totally counter me, but that sounds stupid i know.
I feel like they should add bans to ladder, like 1-2 class? In tournaments it tries to avoid rock paper scissors, and adds a bit of strategy, so I would wonder how that would work out in ladder, I dont know. Do you guys think its better for the meta? Like I imagine it would make stats like hsreplay unreliable, more viable meme decks, less polarizing decks i think. i dont know. Like i cant imagine a downside having bans on ladder, except queue times in wild.
I've found that the easy way to relieve anxiety is just to not care about my rank until the last day of the season. The last day of the season is the only day that matters, so if I lose a couple games on day 17 it's just a couple losses on day 17. I've found by taking this approach I climb the ladder much faster and get to legend much earlier than I used to. If you don't worry about your rank you will get tilted less, and less tilting equals better winrate.
The way I address ladder aniexty or any anxiety a video game may cause is by understanding that it is “just a game”
I go in with the mindset that there are so many other important things in life to worry about (Disease, life struggles, and so on). I bet some people would kill to be in a position to where the only thing they have to worry about is a video game. This may sound extreme, but it does help.
Arena causes much more anxiety. Three losses and you're toast. You can't just play another game. The only time being rank 6 with 5-stars is stressful is if it's 30 mins before reset on the last day of the month.

If you're sitting at 50% winrate with quest druid and running into decks that counter you, you have built it wrong. Fast aggro decks can usually pull a win if you don't have spreading plague and swipe in hand, but you should have enough big taunt minions in your deck that if you survive to turn 7 or 8 it should be auto-win.
If this method works for you hey stick with it. Yesterday I was on a TEAR with murloc paladin. Went 12-3 with it...was feeling AWESOME. Then all of a sudden hit a wall and lost like 3 or 4 straight. Changed to Recruit huntard and was win 1 lose 1 so ended up logging off.

Yeah. Its all about self-management and enjoyment of thr game. I am certainly finding it more enjoyable overall to approach it in the way I do. And most inportantly I dont have the salt that sours my mood like it does after a losing streak.
As I mentioned to someone before theres a lot of subjectivity to it all. Horses for courses and all that.
Yes, I had severe anxiety when climbing especially on my first legend run. (also, anxiety can't really affect only one thing specifically, it's a bit broader than that). Once you get legend 4-5 times, it's completely gone. Like, I was rank 3 and going strong with taunt warrior but all of a sudden I decided to make a divine shield pally and lost 9 games in a row last night. It happens. But in terms of anxiety, for me it's completely gone after having acquired legend a handful of times. :)
A piece of advice, the easiest way to battle anxiety is to play ANY DECK YOU MAKE in ranked. No casual, do NOT switch to casual when feeling anxious as it will make it worse. Play ANY deck in ranked, regardless of what it is. Whether you put some effort into building a decent new archetype/deck or you copied one off of the VS report, play it in ranked.

You don't get better if you don't play; this is what I think to overcome any ladder anxiety.
