(Semi-Rant/Semi Discussion Thread) Sometimes it feels like i am the only one who plays ahead in their mind. Some people take such a long time for a turn for a simple play which they could have done in matter of seconds. Ofcourse there are people that are multitasking, but come on don't you think ahead for every turn you can make. Especially warlocks take ages.
But since i don't want it to be purely a rant, how do you play hearthstone. Do you think ahead?
I think that most of those people who take ages probably are switching between tabs, watching a video or reading an article during the opponent's turn. I for one can not believe that people take almost the whole timer to make what often turns out to be the most obvious plays.
I don't necessarily think ahead but I'm relatively quick in my plays because 90% of plays in hearthstone are obvious. That last 10% requires aniticpating answers, and balancing greed with caution. That happens with control and midrange decks (even even paladin probably requires some resource management), but that doesn't require running thinking for 60 seconds.
Yeah maybe its because lately i don't switch tabs or etc. while playing hearthstone. But just as you said, the plays that they make are so obvious in a lot of match ups. That it makes me wonder why take almost the full turn time. Especially the ones you see hovering there cards.
Warlock has many different removals, so even if I’m playing ahead, I still need to consider some odds. Eg I’m playing vs even pala and he plays CtA on t4. On my turn, I have to ask myself whether I clear the board with defile or hellfire because it can make a huge difference some turns later.
I understand that. Resource management takes some thinking and risk taking. I just don't believe that outside a tournement setting, players need to take over 60 seconds to decide whether to clear the board or save the aoe for later and take some damage as a consequence. Those are sometimes difficult decisions to make, but I think about it for maybe 20 seconds, then do it.
The only times where I take the entire timer is when I'm behind and I have several marginal ways of equalizing or getting ahead, with the risk of using too much to do so. That, and defile turns also take a while.
Not to toot my horn, but I have reached legend, so I'm not a player who doesn't think enough and rushes his turns.

Funny, because the first half of your last sentence is true for me, yet I still sometimes do horrible misplays, for example using defile and godfrey in the same turn and miscounting something so that I can't clear the board. Well, to be honest, it doesn't happen that often but it still happens to me so that I'm actually forcing myself to spend more time thinking about my options. There are games that you lose because you simply drew poorly, but for me nothing is more tilting than losing a game through a misplay and even realizing the misplay just a second after it.
Oh besides this, my turn takes ages if I theoretically have some potential plays but I know that all of them most likely will still lead to defeat, eg I play against even pala, he has a threatening board state and I, while having low life, have the options of playing voidlord, playing voidlord with dark pact for more health or a twisting nether.
I don't blame you, I do the same thing, as I'm sure everyone does. I've had my fair share of turns of taking the entire rope to figure out a defile, to have it epicly fail anyway. I agree with your last paragraph, those too are my slowest turns.
I play purely on impulse and rarely ever think long enough to rope because a) I'm usually drunk when I'm playing but more importantly b) I know that luck/draw matters SO much more than skill in this game.

Sadly thats quite true. Most of the times i get caught by lucky draws sometimes on my side sometimes on the opponent side.
I usually plan my next (few) turns ahead, but even when my plans change i rarely end up roping.
For some rant, i fucking hate when streamers have like this huge combos that take time and they wait till rope, they can’t finish the combo because of the animations, and they fucking complain, like you can’t really do something else, if it doesn’t work you’ll lose, so just do it.

I admit, I'm one of those that does other things while playing hearthstone, sorry, fellow opponents, for your wasted seconds

And i don’t even play Paladins
