Well for spending gold, since blizzard isn't making paid adventures anymore, I'd say just start buying packs from the expansion that you need the most and go play arena sometimes if you're good at it. You could always download hearth arena to help make your decks for you if you want.
You should find a deck you want first on this website or on disguisetoast.com and just start going for it.
You could always find a budgeted deck first to start off and then gradually find a more expensive one
What the guy above said, blizzard guarantees a free legendary for the 10th pack you buy for that expansion for each expansion, after that it's all purely to chance.
Buy 1 pack at a time from each expansion you missed so far until you hit a Legendary card. You are guaranteed to get 1 in the first ten cards. This will maximise your legendary card acquisition in the early stages.
After this, identify your favorite classes and potential decks you want to play.
Check where the bulk of the cards are from (i.e. which set) and buy those type of packs.
For anything else just craft.
Note: There are no more 40 gold quests so always reroll 50 gold ones to get 60gold, pack or 80gold quests. Finally make sure to always trade your 80 gold quests with others.

Thanks everyone. As for what I like, I guess my favorites are warlock, rogue, mage, priest, warrior and Hunter. Not much narrowing down I know. I've only got over 800 gold so trying to decide if I buy packs or try arena.
If you are thinking of trying arena make sure you use a drafting programme to ensure your deck is as good as possible.

My friend made an account recently, and he probably wont spend any money on the game, so we pooled resources and built him a spiteful priest deck with what he had and he is killing it. Spiteful (pre-nerfs don't hold your breath) is easily one of the cheapest competetive decks, so I would recommend crafting two Spiteful Summoners and 2 Free from Amber (Mind Control is free) so that will run you only 1000 dust. Since youre an existing player, I think for now it would be safe to dust some of those old expansions and use your gold in the new sets until you get a legendary, and move from there!
Usually hunter decks are cheaper than other classes, you can focus on it (if you like to play hunter and if you already have a good pool of hunter cards). It's also true that hunters are not in a good position right now, probably Spiteful priest or druid would be better.
If you are any good at Arena play that. If you can get to 7 wins consistently, you'll go infinite, and grind out some packs and dust in the process. There are several helping programs out there, so you might as well take advantage of those and use them as a guideline.
Otherwise, download HDT and let it check your collection. You can then check decks on hsreplay and it will tell you how much dust you need to complete a deck. So, find something affordable with decent performance and start there.

Yeah +1 on this, and also you should download a bot that plays your games for you, this way you have the most gold possible while making the less efforts !
Learn to play and start farming arena. 2 days = 100 gold from quest = 1 pack = 15 packs/month. + 1 pack/day from arena = 30/month. 1 pack/tavern brawl = 4/month, 3 wins = 10 gold, prolly 9 wins on average / day = 30 gold = 4 days = 1 pack = 7 packs / month.
So if you focus enough after 1 month you can get 15 + 30 + 4 + 7 = 56 packs/month.
Thats what I did and I've made most competitive decks in no time. It was long time ago but I really was into HS, especially arena due to rewards.
GL! :)
Great advice! Let's take a closer look at it.
Contrary to popular belief, Arena isn't for free, unless you average something around 7 wins. As of April 2018, the top 150 Arena players on NA servers have between 6.33 wins and 8.1 wins. With 7.0 wins, you'll be in the top 40.
Shouldn't take you longer than a couple tries to get there, right? If you are a despicable noob, like not even among the top 40 players, a good portion of the daily quest gold will go into Arena tickets. And god forbid you ever have a terrible draft.
Now that you are one of the best Arena players worldwide, you still have to play at least ~3 hours per day, every day for the above plan to work. A 7 wins Arena run is 10 games + draft, and with a game duration of ca. 7 minutes (usually longer in arena), this will take about 70 minutes, but more likely between 80 and 90. Another 9 wins in constructed, especially with a bad deck, can take quite a while. Even if you miraculously maintain a 100% winrate, it would take another hour to win 9 games. A 50% winrate is closer to reality, though still somewhat optimistic with bad decks, which would take about 2 hours. So let's say you are in the middle with an above average winrate, and it all takes you about 3 hours.
Also, if you can somehow stick with this schedule, it will still take at least 2-3 months for your collection to be at a reasonable level, since most decks cost above 5000 dust, which requires about 60-70 packs unless your packs are above average, as in "get a golden legendary" or "1 legendary every 15 packs" above average. Of course, some of the cards you get will also be useful for the decks you are going to play, but since you buy from 4 different sets (contrary to popular belief, the Classic set isn't for free), it requires a miracle to get only the cards that are useful. As in, a miracle like being a top 40 Arena player right from the get-go, or a miracle like having an above average winrate with below average decks.
But I'm sure by this point, you have more miracles coming your way than Jesus himself, so all you need now is an angel's patience, but you might very well be a descendant from heaven, so that also should not bee too hard. Being divine and all may also allow you to play this game for 3 hours per day for 2-3 months straight without having job/school, family, friends, illness or anything else related to the earthly realm getting in your way. But wait!- that's when the next expansion will come out. So after you spent 3 months to catch up, expect to do this for another month or two to catch up on the newest set.
Now, just for the sake of completion, I also have to briefly dip into the possibility you are not Jesus. You will more likely average 3 wins in Arena, give up after farming 10-20 gold in constructed and might not even play the game every day. Instead of 50+ packs per month, something around 15-20 is more likely, and getting a decent collection takes about a year, and requires meticulous planning of how many packs you buy from which set.
But there is also another option: You can spend something between 100 and 1000 $ or more in € to get all the cards you need in just a couple minutes. So, just be rich, dammit! Or be Jesus, whatever is easier for you to accomplish.

I think it was easier to farm arenas in the past. And playing 3 hours a day was nothing hard - some weekends I was able to spend 5 hours/day easily. Hearthstone was available on mobile back then as well, so as most of the students during boring lectures... You were doing sth different than actually listening :P
If you're training at a gym you can actually choose walking treadmill session for cardio training, giving you another min. 30 minutes. Not to mention traveling by bus takes for some people even up to 2 hours. 1 hour for me. Also you don't have to go to constructed to score more wins for gold. Arena wins are also taken into account.
And yes - I'm high above average player :D But once I've lost so much interest in HS and will to farm, I started buying preorders and adventures. And that was really enough.

Well done, you have demonstrated that under very specific conditions, it was manageable for you. Now do a critical analysis for all the necessary conditions, mainly conditions that require being you, and substract them from "manageable".
In other words, you make something sound easy that is well-nigh impossible for others due to many circumstances, many of which involve not being you, so your advice is great for yourself, but not so great for others.
I should point out, I do not mean to lash out at you directly and personally. I'm sure you're a tip-top bloke trying to give some good advice, just that the advice is not very helpful when it lacks empathy and gives a wrong impression of how "manageable" everything really is. Primarily, my frustration stems from people who try to break the game's difficulty down to a simple formula and shout "look, it's so simple", because it was simple for them, and then assume it's simple for everyone. And there are quite a few of those people on this message board, and on YouTube, Twitch, Reddit and every other gathering of Hearthstone players on- and offline.
Sidenote: Arena wins do not count for the victory bonus gold, and never did.
If you are thinking of trying arena make sure you use a drafting programme to ensure your deck is as good as possible.

I'm trying to get back into the game but I have no clue what to do in terms of getting cards efficiently and spending gold. Here is my collection. https://www.hearthpwn.com/members/Dravok/collection
Any help with what to do and a deck I can start building with what I have I would appreciate.
