As you guys know, theres some teasers of the next two expansions:
So I decided to play World of Warcraft and tried to find something near these Icons. As a veteran World of Warcraft player, I knew exactly where I need to go. And YES, I know that Hearthstone let the "Heroes of Warcraft" title behind, but this means nothing. The themes can still be found in the MMO.
Expansion 2º: Netherstorm/Tempest Keep (tematics could be Kaelthas and the Elfs, Area-52, and even ethereals)
You can see right above the Tempest Keep, the same arcane energy that you can find on the gem of the 2º teaser. Also, the purple sky on the background is the one that you can see if you land on Area-52 and look up.
Expansion 3º: Stranglethorn Vale (tematics could be Trolls, Gurubashi Arena and even Nagas)
The reason that makes me choose Trolls instead Nagas/Sea is the rustic painting on the third leak. You can clearly see that the edge of the Icon is badly painted, almost as if it was painted by someone with only 3 fingers (huh). The white balls on the bottom are likely the troll tattoos (both troll and druidic bear form tattoos)
The gems on the center means nothing to me, not even the ocean. If we counts that the Witchwood gem also has nothing to do with the expansion itself.
Be sincere: imagine you don´t know this expansion is The Witchwood. Now look at the card back of "expansion 1" . Would you guess the expansion? probably you would think about the emerald dream or something like that.
Don´t look at WoW if you want to guess future expansions. It´s a waste of time.
PS: personal opinion, i wish every expansion was lore-related
Emerald Dream? Ok, how much do you know about the Emerald Dream? These roots on the leak seems like a dead forest. Everything about the Emerald Dream (Fan Arts, Concepts...) is fully green-themed. I saw a lot of topics guessing that the first expansion would be something like Duskwood.
So yea, the second expansion definitely looks like an arcane theme, but I can't look at WoW. Great.
The next expansion will not be a self-produced theme. We had it now 2 times, and i think that blizzard don't want only to have them in the game. So yes, Netherstorm seems quite obvious; nothing is as pink as the Netherforges there.
Into the Nether is an interresting addon: Demons, Void creatures, Blood elves, Biodromes and Dinosaurs. But still: do they really want an expansion about the Netherstorm AFTER they didn't gave us Farahlon in WoD?
The emerald dream was slated to have it's own dedicated expansion for years. Instead they catered for it as the Tier 1 raid content in Legion. I agree with the earlier peer who's thinking is that we shouldn't peg too much stock on WoW lore for pending HS expansions. Look at recent alternative heros. Nemsy and Morgl are unique to HS currently.
I think I prefer this. Taking pockets of WoW lore and making them something unique is great. Whilst I'm a bit "meh" about some of the Witchwood cards, I do like the story telling attempt they've made.
Morgl appears in shaman class hall in Legion actually :> But it's something WoW team took from HS, not the usuall way around :> I believe addition of Dave Kosak to HS team really helped in developing lore unique to HS which is super good.

The Netherstorm graphics comparison looks fairly compelling, not sure about the third one.

Golden Hero Collections thus far; -
Europe: Druid, Hunter, Paladin, Mage, Priest, Rogue, Shaman, Warlock, Warrior (9/9)
Americas: Druid, Mage, Paladin Shaman (4/9)
Everywhere else: Workin on it.. (0/9)
All I know is the worst guess of all time is Kripp's guarantee that the 3rd expansion is Ulduar.
