Opened him and it got me wondering why paladins arent playing him in either the murloc or even builds right now. Historically, he has always been considered a strong legendary and right now the cardpool is so shallow in standard cards that never even saw play are being run (cough raid leader).
My best guess is the pala builds atm are too aggro-centered rather than midrange, but I haven't played the class since grand tournament so...
I'm playing a midrange Spiteful Pally. Would love to work him in, but it's tough with this meta. The 8 slot is already full and I need to get taunts out earlier to handle all the aggro that's out there.
Being an avid player of paladin, i would say that the problem is that the recent expansions have added a lot of really viable midrange cards to the neutral and Paladin pool, but they also added a lot of aggro to them as well. And aggro requires less planning ahead of every move then midrange, which makes the decks easier to use. I wouldn't know for certain about standard though since i do a lot more in wild because i enjoy more variety in the decks i face

He saw lots of play during Un'Goro, in the greedy Curator lists that were popular at the time - otherwise, I suspect you are correct. Since Frozen Throne, Paladin's aggro decks are simply better, and slower builds can't really compete with the huge value generation of the current crop of control/combo decks.
Silence everywhere because of Cubelock, as everyone said, but ALSO, Cubelock makes all midrange decks unplayable unless they can burst the cubelock from 15 or have, like... 4 silences, or polymorph effects. Them's the shakes.
silver sword vs tirion . i play silver sword, .tirion vs lich king , lich king ofc. tirion vs primordial drake , drake for aoe dmg.
can be played in control matchups and value card as well for late game. but most time game are finish at turn 9-10 . so thats why tirion doesnt really being played that much. dead hand for palads esp now most decks for palad are agro
Yeah, back in the old days Tirion was actually a win condition. Besides the fact most decks run Silence or Weaponremoval, he simply gets outvalued by DKs ( and doesn’t go well with the Uther DK) or some Hadronox and Questrouge bs.
It's because people netdeck, and nobody is including Tirion in their netdeck.
It's a good card; even in a cubelock meta, I'd still run it in an even paladin. Opponents wouldn't really expect it. I've seen it a few times on the ladder at rank 5+ and every time didn't expect Tirion lol.
Because fair cards don't see play and Tirion is very fair. Tirion won't see play in a recruit meta until you can cheat it out or it's part of some weird OTK combo.

Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before destination.

Yes, that is it.
Why play a good but fair 8 manas minions when your opponent can play 9 manas value for 5 and combo 18 manas value for 6 and gain 8 life with Cube + Pact? Or for only 2 manas more gain a full board of powerfull demons and an amazing hero power... the power level of warlock cards is so out of the roof, so insanely unfair and unbalanced put cards like Tirion in the garbage tier level.
The only option is go to full aggro and paladin received a lot of awesome support for that.
A 6/6 Divine Shield for 8 isn't good enough. A 5/3 weapon isn't relevant vs Aggro and isn't good enough vs Heavy Control.
Here i need to disagree with you. Yes, there is powercreep too, but Tirion was not really affected to it: It's still a 8 mana 6/6 Taunt with Divine Shield, so you need to take at least 2 hits to kill him. While there is powercreep in minions, it's not really here right now in number of attacks, this was actually worse in earlier expansions.
What's actually the issue is as said before: silence. Earlier we had the same issue: in a silence-heavy meta (when Ironbeak Owl was nearly in every deck because of piloted shredder and other minions and it costed 2), Tirion was always a bad card. Now with Cubelock, Spellbreaker is nearly in every deck. So Tirion is right out now. If Cubelock gets nerfed and Spellbreaker is out of the picture, we might see Tirion again.

Because everyone and their mothers run x2 silence.
Thanks the cursed Cubelock for that.

ppl use at least x2 silence thanks to cubelock

All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.

Tarim is our new Tirion. So much value, Pala has most powerful legs, but today only Tarim useful.
I will be glad to see less spellbreakers and silence spells everywhere....they ruin my fun. And I'm not even running cubelock or Warlock at all lol
You could always use him as a silence lure

Most decks are running a lot of silence, transform, and weapon destruction right now ... all of which wreck Tirion.
I wanna glide down, over Mulholland
I wanna write her, name in the sky
I wanna free fall, out into nothin'
Gonna leave this, world for awhile
