I don't play wild cause I don't like matching up against aggro paladin or Giants lock 50% of the time. The standard meta is just as stale as wild but at least it changes up every 4 months while the wild meta probably won't given how much better warlock and paladin are than literally everything else.
1. (for most people) because no cards 2. because fuck the old cards that I've seen for the past 3 years 4. because there are a few more decks but at high ranks its still the best against the other best like in standard 5. arena sucks, its not even hs related at this point, its like making the brawl never change and call it a game mode, utter garbage.
When the meta is literally 90 percent Paladins (as it has been for me), it's actually kind of fun to beat them into the ground with a deck that counters them. Can't do that in Arena!

It's pretty fun to read here about how "fresh" Standard feels and then look at the rest of the board and find rant topic about how the meta is already stale after few weeks of WW and how only 2-4 decks are viable there. Or how people don't want to face some "cancer" cards from the past while whining about new "cancer" cards.
Imho Standard is pretty boring while Wild offers generally a more diverse experience at last at lower Ranks (25-5). Wild's meta change slower in comparison to Standard's one but on the other side you have much more deckbuilding options and have pretty decent results with homebrewed decks. Getting to Legend is a terrible grind on both side by the way.

For what profit is it to a man, if he gains the world and loses his own soul?
Thanks for all the comments, I really appreciate them. Some of the interweb trolls showed their teeth, but overall, genuine feedback, which is really appreciated! So, I guess I hadn't thought about new players. Standard definitely makes more sense for them. Also, the Sea Witch combo in wild is pretty annoying (which I still don't understand why it was reverted), so I can understand that. The bottom line for me is that in standard, at decent ranks - and lately, any rank - people play the same few decks. I guess in the end it can be chalked up to personal preference. I would rather hit some annoying mill/reno decks as opposed to playing against similar opponents every game, but I can understand how people would feel the other way.
You must not have played much arena, because it seems to be at a reasonable spot right now - and a ton of fun! New cards to play around with; every match is different; able to pull off crazy combos that would never work in constructed. My only complaint about arena at the moment is how powerful paladins are. Other than that, the layout is a blast and the best way to build your cardpool if you're decent at it.
I'd play the most supported format in whatever game I play.
In Hearthstone, it happens to be standard.

I don't understand it either tbh. Many of the same general problems that exist in wild also exist in standard, some of which are worse.
Expenses - If you are looking at keeping up with the meta wild may be expensive (with some tier decks requiring multiple legendaries and epics), but standard also requires you to keep up with expensive decks in every meta, and whenever a top tier deck that you may have crafted cards for is nerfed you have to start over with the next highest tier deck.
Staleness - Really don't think I need to address this point much, but you can check the forums over frequent complaints of the same 2-4ish same decks in every single standard meta. Some decks even persist for many months straight (Jade Druid, Pirate Warrior, Aggro Shaman). I'd say that this problem is actually worse than wild. At least in wild you can fight broken with broken for most classes.
Ladder grinding - More people in the format = more people to compete against who are using copypasta tier decks, and it is harder to grind up during off hours because there are that many more people playing at any given time than in wild.
Fewer options to craft "for fun"/"off-meta"/"casual" decks - You can craft fun and memey decks in both formats, but if variety is your goal why limit yourself only to fun/meme cards available to you from a handful of expansions?
Evergreen set & the HoF debacle - Wild doesn't have to worry about losing cards from the format that originally were not supposed to rotate out ever. In standard you have to just wait for some of your favorite classes to randomly lose cards if a new broken card is intentionally released in new expansions, causing a broken interaction with your favorite old cards.
Because wild has very little synergy rework when it comes to cards rotating. More cards= More rediculess combos. Standard is at least somewhat balanced and altered as the devs see fit.
I feel like the devs want to push that idea very hard, because they want you packing as much as possible every rotation. You get 1/4 return on dust which is disgusting for what it costs to make 1 deck
Hearthstone is like a recurring pimple and every time it pops, the nasty shit inside flows into wild. That is why. It's the same reason people don't get hyped for old Nintendo and Atari games. Been there, done that. It's not exciting anymore and just annoying now. If it was up to me, there wouldn't even be an evergreen set.
As a F2P player who only entered this game near the end of gadgetzan, I don't have the budget to play wild. I basically disenchant all of my wild only cards so I have enough dust to try and craft interesting constructed decks.
So all in all, i play standard here, and whenever i want to witness busted stuff or wombos, i play yugioh.
LOL yugioh has the most busted wombo nonsense this side of the sun....WORSE than MTG
BUT most of those things are fairly easy to figure out what theyre doing after the first few turns. Giants is very easily countered. AVIANA kun combos take a bit of set up..
People have said, but Anyone who started playing since the introduction of wild have limited access to the cards and can't afford it
I've played since Naxx, but I still play standard because people are always tinkering with the new cards and the limited card pool. It feels current, and generally fresh. Especially at the start of an expansion.
Yep, I really like how the meta freshened up after playing all those aggro paladins, cubelocks and spiteful decks before the rotation. Oh, wait.
#2 exactly this. Once gvg and naxx rotated I never wanted to see dr boom or sludge belcher ever again. I prefer only to play with the new cards and I just dust my old collection to build my standard decks. I like to have at least one viable deck per class in standard except for Warlock. Warlock can go to H(e)ll of fame.
im not playing wild becouse they wont fix it, i stil have an traumatic issue with who am i ? none of your business or muster for battle-
dont forget" this" new naga sea witch deck, blizz is doing nothing for wild to balance it a little bit up, thats why i keep to standard, and ofc its cheaper , you have only to focus on a small set

I played since 2014, so i play between all expansions and adventures.
I played a lot of wild, but wild have some issues that make me change to standard this year:
- Standard is more competitive. U have a lot of championships and a lot of players.
- In wild you have much less players, so is easy to get better rank if u have a nice deck. To me, is like playing in easy.
- And you don't have anything to study (u only have ViciousSyndicate - 1 post in a month, even hsreplay is not good).
Now i'm very happy with the actual meta, i'm playing "Spiteful Druid" and is very fun to play.

Man dusting multiple cards for a 1/4 dust return just because of a couple cards that realistically aren't that bad.
I don't know man not playing Wild seems like a waste of money and time ultimately

Do or do not. There is no try.
I like not facing against a board full of giants turn 5.
I much prefer losing to even paladin turn 6 thank you very much.
