I was thinking about Baku the Mooneater and the potential decks that could be built around it. We've just seen a couple of odd cards that support the upgraded hero power from Baku: Blackwald Pixie and Clockwork Automaton. People have been wondering about the viability of an odd hunter deck that uses the upgraded hero power to burn the opponent down.
Honestly it's really hard to imagine using Baku in any other deck besides a control deck. Since you sacrificed half of your potential cards to upgrade your hero power, you will want to use it as much as possible- BUT it still costs 2 mana. This will come at the cost of playing early minions and fighting for the board. Plus, there will be plenty of even turns where you will be floating one mana, because if you hero power and play your odd-cost card, it won't add up to your even mana total.
For hunter, I'm not sure how you can sit back like this, waste mana and ignore the board. Maybe it would be possible if you could play secrets, but they are even cards! Even Deathstalker Rexxar, hunter's main controllish/late-game value card, won't fit in a Baku deck.
But, on the other hand, if the opposite is true it could also be bad for the game. Say Blizzard made a bunch of nice odd-cost control cards for hunter. Then you run into the Razakus priest-like situation where the opponent cannot get onto the board and just gets hero power'd to death. Fun and interactive!

Thumbs up for a interesting point. I never considered that there will be awkward turns and wasted mana.
And I don't think aggro can play this kind of deck because they sacrifice too much tempo. Play a 2-drop on t3? Yea no.
Baku Hunter is possible and it will be just a variation of old Face Hunter: you simply apply constant pressure to face.
No extra support to hp needed.
Baku implies an upgraded hero power. It depends on the specific hp whether it improves Aggro, Midrange or Control.
About Control Hunter, it seems they don't want it to happen in classic ways, ie they seem to prefer Rush as an alternative Control way, to be seen if good enough.
Baku Control Hunter in DK Razakus style is more than unlikely. Pretty much impossible in just 1 set.
You are sort of right but it's not just about the on paper power of Baku's Vs Genn's upgrades to your hero power. One drops and three drops, as seen by the capacity for almost everyone to play prince keleseth, are good enough to make your early game pretty good. There are some one drops that aren't awful to play alone on Two and if you shove enough 1 drops in you can usually be able to play two 1 drops on two. Beyond two your turns fill out pretty nicely as long as you have enough 1 drops to fill in the gaps. Hence why they printed the raven caller, shame he so low statted he probably won't see play. The thing is you don't want to play your hero power in the early game as hunter. And so whilst Genn decks ought to allow you to play more hero powers throughout the early game but Baku ought to give you a better hero power for closing the game. Baku's heropower out races an unupgraded priest or warrior heropower. It can supply the finishing damage better than genn's upgrade.
Let's not forget that the marshqueen is mostly unplayable because you have to skip turn one. And you are suggesting that running a 1drop less hunter is going to be better than a two dropless one?
Sure if they release busted even cost board control cards we might see a even hunter, but honestly, I don't see it so far.
How many zero drops have legitimately seen play? Especially how many zero drops have seen play outside of hob and divine favour combos? zero drops are so small they arn't worth the card, outside of dumb combos, that's always how they will be.
As for the coin, so? You are gonna use up your coin to play a 2 drop on one then what? They will usually play a 1 drop that your two drop likely doesn't trade well against and then they are playing cards a turn ahead for rest of the game and you have used up the coin as a comeback mechanic. Even if it does work well that's 50% of your games you are totally sacrificing turn 1 of. Besides unless I am mistaken hunter usually severely prefers going first. I would be very interested to look at hunters winrate with and without a 1 drop.
If those control tools are that good why does spell hunter entirely rely on y'shaarj and the spellstone to do anything?
And you are severely underestimating how long it takes to finish the hunter quest. You barely have enough minions to do it, not entirely sure how you even hope to do so when you arn't even getting the proc from one of them. Point still was more that not playing a card on turn one or always using up your coin to do so is really bad.
Besides my main point was that Baku's upgrade was better than genn's hunter usually plays its cards fast then relies on its hero power to close the game. Baku does this better than genn does.
You are readying baky hunter wrong, it's a face deck, you are using the hero power as much as possible to apply pressure, that adds up quite quickly, if we get more aggressive 1 drops you just pressure the enemy life total with weapons/charge/hero power/kill commands
also stealth minions is a decent idea, like the card we saw today 5/2 stealth might be good enough if it can hit face next turn..
"Control hunter" doesn't like to upgrade his basic hero power, if you are gonna play it, you are trying to go for board control, secrets, spellstone, value,DK.
The question how good a Baku hunter would be is a question of how good one drops he gets. While youre right mana eficiency will be difficult, onedrops can fill up.
Also true you will loose the board, but facehunter doesnt care for board except taunts.
This is somewhat the best possible list atm and while i think its still to weak, this is how a Baku hunter would look like, bazillions of onedrops and minions that deal damage no matter how far your behind on board.
It would be verry uninteractive and i realy hope this wont be a thing.
The upgrade hero power is only suitable for warrior, because it is their win condition in certain matchup. It is that good for the deck. Other upgrade hero power simply not worth throwing half of your best cards to have it, maybe Paladin is, but imposible to play as odd paladin at the moment
