All hearthstone expansions are tied to world of Warcraft somehow, why not expand into star craft or diablo universe for at least a couple expansion. Characters like tyrael or karigan would be neat and would widen there fan interest.
I’ve never played wow and don’t know half the characters significance but I have played star craft and diablo so for other people like me it’d be cool too see characters that we actually know .
Beyond the game's full name, it is a thematic limitation: it wouldn't feel 'right' to have main characters from other games (especially those with more advanced weaponry than exists in the Warcraft universe).
That said, since they create new characters for HS (some of which later make it into WoW, such as Skycap'n Kragg and the Tortollans), they are probably free to take characters from other franchises and put them in a Warcraft setting (kind of like an Easter egg). I wouldn't be surprised to see that happen sooner or later.
For all the people here: It's not called Heroes of Warcraft anymore. Also the Kobolds and Catacombs hasn't that much to do with WoW, except obligatory "Dungeon RPG feature". I would personally like more expansion like that.
Let's see what future (...I mean Blizzard developments :D ) bring us.
It is limited to the WOW universe loosely speaking, you can have new characters that are not currently in WOW(reno jackson) but they still fit the theme of the games, both wow and hs. Nemsy is still a warlock, a gnome, riding a bogcreeper, eating the cheese dropped from random mobs in wow(last one is my speculation), she still fits the theme and doesn't look out of place if blizzard wants they can even put her in WOW in a later time. Now imagine putting someone like widowmaker in the game and expecting her to fit it :/
no thank you i dont want them to use any of the other games. stick to warcraft they have years and years of content left they havent touched yet. they dont need the other games lore or history.
Well the game is called Heroes of Warcraft so I bet that is why.
The game isn't called like that anymore, the tag heroes of warcraft was removed some time ago, cause it isn't completely tied to the Warcraft anymore, there is a lot of cards and iconic characters to HS that never showed up in WoW (Kazakus and Lyra for example) so they removed this tag to not have to only and exclusively print warcraft lore expansion, that gives them creative liberty so in theory they could do an expansion about anythif they want but I doubt diablo or starcraft or overwatch will ever be the focus of any expansion just cause the design of the characters and their style doesn't feel the kind of fantasy style of ancient ans pretty much medieval times that the whole HS tavern has, if they do an expansion that has nothing to do with WoW it'll be original content to build more of that "Hearthstone exclusive lore". The most I could see is something like "Blizzard all-stars" in where they print the most emblematic heroes, characters, spells and powers from all the blizz games
Because it would be damn weird and alienate people who don't play those games. Just go play HotS
Well, I agree that it's not a good idea to introduce stuff from other games into HS, but I have to point out; I haven't played WoW and I wasn't alienated from HS because of it :D Don't know a lot of the new characters tho, outside of Warcraft 3 and earlier games.
You are correct the name change happened some time ago but you are incorrect on the kobots and catacombs not having much to do with WOW, you have kobolts, you have furbear people, you have skills from wow like barkskin, the elementals are based in the wow ones, potion of heroism was an item in wow, all the legendary weapons were weapons in WOW(except the world twig and woecleaver as far as i know), so on and so on. Yes they took alot of liberty on cards that they design but you cant really say kobolds and catacombs didn't have that much to do with WOW.
I think mixing games would really ruin the theming they have going for them. I haven't played wow, but I have played SC2 and I just don't like the idea of them together as it kinda breaks both of their worlds

"Twig of the World Tree" is a mace from Vanilla, but yeah this expansion has Warcraft references everywhere. But yeah I echo the general sentiment here - the setting of the game is based in the Warcraft universe even if "Heroes of Warcraft" was removed from the name. Every time you log in you're even greeted by a dwarf as if you're entering his tavern. Outside references here and there would be cool, but I don't think an entire expansion/adventure based on another Blizzard game would fit.

I don't WoW either. Many card games use original lore and I treated HS the same when I started. After playing HS for years, you grow fond of these characters as if this was their original game. I even ended up reading a bit of the lore and became interested in WoW itself.
It's not the same as introducing characters from entirely different universes. Since a universe already exists, adding a new one would make the game's story disjointed and nonsensical
One thing is a brawl another thing is an expansion, one is a 1 week thing doesn't really intereact too much with the game, that's why we are able to have this week's starcraft themed brawl. Now making an expansion means you make cards with that theme in mind, imagine zenyatta in between murlocs.
Also it might not have "heroes of warcraft" in the name but hearthstone is still a WOW item not used in any of the other games.
Just saw your next comment, TGT still kept the WOW feeling and references, it was literally based on the raid trials of the grand crusader, and trials of the champion(and all the area around).

Maybe because the whole thing happens in a tavern in the wow universe ?
Top deck is cheat

Well, technically, it's limited to characters from Warcraft, not WoW. Further, the game is literally called Heroes of Warcraft.
there's a reason why this game is called "Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft" :D
Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.

Wait, it is limited to WOW universe?
Nemsy?

Garrosh did nothing wrong.

Other games should be limited to cameos such as the old Cow King tavern brawl or mostly likely the upcoming Starcraft brawl
They removed the Heroes of Warcraft part.
You can't stop the signal.
