I’ve been seeing a lot of posts lately about how hard hearthstone is for f2p players and while I’m not really a f2p player, I can understand the sentiment as I have been in the same spot before.
Typically most f2p players tend to focus on one game mode instead of both due to expenses for cards, so I was thinking what if Blizzard allowed full dust refunds on all cards from expansions that were rotating out to wild. This way f2p players can dust their old collection and can be able to keep up with the new meta.
EDIT: I feel I might need to mention this, but I am most definitely NOT a f2p player. I just feel bad that new people can’t enjoy the game as much as I do simply because of a lacking collection.
Nope, then blizzard will newer sell any new packs as a full or near full collection of the cards going out along with the gold accumulated will give access to all cards

1. it would mean the end of wild as you could easily get a full standard collection by gutting your wild set.
2. it would mean blizzard gets 0 money thanks to #1.
As a f2P player, i understand how it can be a bit hard to keep up with the meta, usually at the start of an expansion i have to try making a variant of a deck I already have. But although it can be hard, I think your idea is a lot. Although i'm f2p, now that we've gotten past the ungoro and kft expansions, and are well-into K&C, I have accumulated a very large collection of cards(same with the year of the Kraken). If hearthstone were to work how you say, f2p players would have huge amounts of dust, along with the dust they saved up, to be able to make tons of the legendaries and epics they need, and the last thing Blizzard wants is to give its players all the cards they need without spending any money. So while this would be a nice change, I don't think Blizzard would ever do it. On another note, f2p players who play wild mode(like myself) might have a hard time parting with these cards, making it unfair for them that everyone else gets the dust that they don't.
What incentive does Blizzard have to make things easier for F2P players? F2P players contribute nothing to the game. The fact that they allow you to play for free at all should be gift enough. They don't want it to be easier for you to play for free - they want you to eventually spend money. Blizzard is a business, not a charity.

Yeah, that’s a really good point. Maybe if they put a limit like get full dust on 4 cards of your choice?
Been playing since KFT and have spent nothing other than time, on average an hour or less a day I'd say. I am not legendary but can consistently rank to 8 or 9 each month. I find the challenge to accumulate cards without purchase to be rewarding. Also makes opening legendaries really cool. Seems as though people just want to download the game and get a bunch of free legendaries and rank up to legendary immediately. If you ask me, ranking high or having decks that win 50% + should take time. I have no problem losing to more experienced players with better collections. Agreed things can be a little difficult at beginning of expansions but if gold and dust is saved for a month or so prior, that's a lot of packs and crafting ability to put together something decent with new cards. Life isn't always fair or easy kiddos. If it's too hard uninstall is always an option.
You have to be careful posting thoughts like this on this website because there's lots of hardcore elitists out here who hate giving any support to people who don't pay for the game haha.
This isn't the right solution though, because as people mentioned, you could completely disenchant your wild set and basically have 100% of the standard set at all times.
I wish they would do something about dust though. Maybe wild cards should be able to be crafted for half cost? So 800 dust to craft a wild legendary? It would allow f2p players to maybe more easily have fun in wild while building up their collection.
Or sell wild packs for less gold or something. I don't think there's much that can be done though. If you want to play completely f2p, you just have to realize you won't be competitive for a while, unless you completely dedicate yourself to getting as much gold as you can every day (by which I mean, pushing for that 100 gold cap all the time, which you simply can't do if you have any social life/work life lol).

I could see them adding more of those "welcome bundle" type packages. It does not make sense for them to give out free dust, but it really makes sense to allow a new player to buy 10-20 packs for a few bucks.
They (Blizzard) would like the F2P players to be mostly free to play, and if they can convince them to spend some money here and there, they are happy. If anything, I would love to see discounts for the classic sets so that Legendaries and other cards from the original set are much cheaper to craft. You would also have to discount the dust value accordingly, but it would seem fair to be able to craft something like Bloodmage Thalnos for a smaller amount of dust

Talk about arrogance. Ben, is that you?
How come playing a game is a 'gift'?
F2P players contribute nothing to the game? They contribute to community, which is the biggest part of the game.
It's not the f2p players who struggle, it's the new players who can't keep up.
You can get all the commons, most rares and around half of the epics and legends of a new expansion just by doing quests and playing casually.
As someone who started about a year ago, I agree. It takes about a year to catch up. As a new player you wont have that big a problem getting the new expansions but playing catch up getting cards from sets released before you started playing. IMHO after the first expansion in your first year its probably a good idea to not craft anything from the old sets and focus on cards that have the longest time left to play in standard.
I started playing around October of 2016. Since then I've bought all adventures with gold (except Naxx) and have acquired most cards from all expansions going back to TGT. I still consider myself a f2p player given that I have only spent money on Naxx, the welcome, and mammoth bundles. With that being said its not hard to save gold/dust and get legendaries. The main problem I see that newer people have is they dust most of their collection to build a OP deck like Razakus Priest. Months later the deck gets hit with nerfs and those who used all of their resources to make it get pissed off and cry

This. I'm a F2P player, but I've played since beta. If you do the quests and brawls, you'll have no problem doing just fine in the game. Sure, you won't be able to play all the decks you might want to, and you're a little bit at the mercy of RNG of what legendaries you get, but you can do just fine spending no more than 15-30 minutes a day and 0 dollars on this game.
The issue is new players and basically requiring them to suffer for a year+ of catching up with their card collection for them to get far into this game. The changes Blizz made to the ladder will do well to fix this issue, to make the player feel a sense of progression. Brawls (the non-constructed type) also help in this regard, to give them an alternative than being constantly reminded of the cards they are missing.
I'd wait to see how the new ladder works before trying to figure out how to make life better for F2P. I really do think it will help a lot (granted, it'll take at least a month for the changes to really have an effect).
I would be okay if it only took 2 wins to get 10 gold, and the 100 gold/day cap was increase to 150 or so. Maybe even more Arena and end-of-month rewards would be reasonable as well.
Maybe they should add more unique quests. (and not make them so hidden)
So if you get every class to 20 you get X
For reaching rank 20 for the first time you get 5 packs. Or have bigger monthly quests, a lot of games (and I cant see hearthstone doing it) have a more robust check-in type system where you get big bonuses if you log on every day for a month. This is to get a bigger playerbase, but the point is, having unique starting quests would be really cool and could help make new players get more invested.

One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.

Better matches (already in the works) on the Blizz side, lowered expectations on the New/F2P side.
Free to try and find a game, dealing cards for sorrow, cards for pain.
What "community"? The toxic spoiled brats complaining on these forums? Color me unimpressed.
If you are in your first year of playing please read this post.
Dust does not burn a hole in the jar. Be careful what you craft, especially before and right after a rotation.

It's better to pay first, using those powerful cards to snowball effect into tons of in-game gold.
