I'm recently play with Discover Mage. I know this is an old archtype but i really like it and my question is why is it so hard to win with this deck now? Got destroyed by CubeLock or another control deck.
And now almost all class can get healing stuff, mage can get armor by 1 mana 1/2, walrock dark pact and Druid 4 mana choose twice 12 armor. It's hard especially when Alexstrasza cannot go through armor.
Now i'm stuck at rank 15, my average is rank 10. Any suggestion? Here is my list.

Yep, with all that heal which control decks now have alextraza and several burn cards are not enough to be a wincondition. Wincon for control mage now relies more on fatique and heal from DK elementals.
It's pretty much just grinder mage, and that works all right still. I would feel a lot better about it's chances with at least 1 silence in the deck and possibly an arcane artificer or two in there to drag out the games.
Here's my version of it, no Alex but does include Jaina. Grind out the game with board clears and removals, some decent early tempo with mana wyrm and valet, then just let the DK and Burn carry you.
Just a quick toss together, could def use improvement.
