im looking for a safe classic set craft, and I’ve narrowed it down to Leeroy Jenkins or Bloodmage Thalnos. I playa diverse collection of decks from aggro/tempo to control, and have a pretty good collection of cards. This is most likely going to fit into a rogue deck, but versatility is important as I can’t afford to craft both now.
yes, I’ve looked at the crafting guide, but both are top tier safe. If I had to say for certain, rogue is likely going to be the class I’d use either card, but again, the more versatile, the better.
Bloodmage is good but can be replaced. Highlander Priests who just wanted draw subbed loot hoarder and control warlocks who wanted spell damage subbed tainted zealot
I want to play Miracle Rogue, and I see that nearly all decks have both. Actually, I want to play Kingsbane miracle variant as it looks really fun and a new archetype that I’m sure will be around for a while.
people have told me that cards like Shiv can be a reasonable replacement for Bloodmage Thalnos, but it’s not quite the same. Leeroy Jenkins on the other hand seems much harder to replace.
does that give more context to help me make a decision?
Leeroy is definitely harder to replace, I'd go for him. I like so much where the idea for that card comes from, so it's the only golden legendary i haven't dusted.
But he's mostly used in aggro decks and I like these decks less, so I realize I played more Thalnos over the years.
I would recommend Bloodmage Thalnos. It is mostly just my personal opinion but to me, at least, Bloodmage is used more often that Leeroy (in the current meta). Highlander uses it, every single mage deck ever uses it, Miracle Rogue uses it, etc.
Lol! Half say Leeroy. Half say Bloodmage. My gut says Leeroy is more important because he’s a powerful finisher, but that card draw and spell damage is key early on in a match.
tough choice.
i have a golden Onyxia I’m planning to dust, but that was going to be used to craft Hall of a fame cards when the next expansion arrives.

any final thoughts before I pull the trigger?
You can build miracle decks without leeroy esp in wild if you play that....realistically if you plan to invest in miracle you need to have both and are likely saving your gold for just that...so IMO its toMAto toMAHto
Personally I feel like Thalnos will fit in more decks than Leeroy and you said you play a diverse range of decks. Leeroy is nice but what decks really play him right now aside from tempo rogue? Sure there are replacements for Thalnos but he is soooo versatile...shaman decks, priest decks, mage decks, warlock decks, and even some rogue decks.
If you play aggro, Leeroy is your guy. If you play control, go for Thalnos. If you don't care, get Leeroy.
This. ^^ Leeroy is a staple in many Aggro decks. Thalnos serves a different purpose and is good for both burn or control decks alike. In solitary, I would say Leeroy is a stronger pick.
-Thalnos is useful in a larger array of decks, and if you craft him you will find yourself putting him in a lot of your builds, but if you don't have him, it's not terribly important, as he is by no means essential in said decks.
-Leeroy is a card that sees play in a much less diverse type of deck, but in the decks where you do want to run it, it's a pretty key card to have.
Considering the above, pick the card according to your own taste.

thanks in advance!

leeroy can’t be replaced
Basically what LGP747 said. 6 mana 5/2 charge minion doesn't replace Leeroy well, there's just no substitute for him, for Thalnos - there are few.

Try to do both as soon as you can!

Thalnos in my humble opinion for his versatility. "We hunger for vengeance."

Make sure to craft them in gold because if they rotate out, it's 3200 dust refund and you keep that card in wild too!
What are the chances of Leeroy and Bloodmage rotating to HoF?
I would recommend Leeroy Jenkins based on hsreplay stats

If either got the HoF treatment you could always get your dust back.

To put it simply:

Thalnos for expensive control decks
Leeroy for cheap/expensive aggro deck or expensive combo deck (like miracle rogue)
So Leeroy will be safe craft.
One day this game will stop existing. I can't wait.
I find Leeroy is much more important. He wins games. I play a fair amount of Miracle, but he is also good in Tempo Rooj.
Thalnos is great, but I'm trying to think of the last time I played him in anything other than Miracle and Freeze.
I hate thalnos, that card is so good but it feels so awful to craft it because its a 2 mana 1/1
