Obviously the big news of the day is that Blizzard is nerfing Patches, Corridor Creeper, Raza And Bonemare. Considering I dont play netdecks like most of the player base, this news made me extremely happy that they are making these changes because it will finally change the meta and make it so the last 2 months before Rotation arent the same old meta of being Jade Druid/Raza priest/Cubelock and aggro paladin. This made me think however if there is something that is wrong with the people at blizzard who are actually designing cards and balancing cards. considering Bonemare came out 2 sets ago and yet its getting nerfed already. You also have to realize Corridor creeper JUST came out in the last set and yet its getting nerfed to the ground. This makes me think that blizzard is either not play testing hard enough to know what cards would be broken and what cards would shape the meta to the way it is. I find it hard to believe that they didnt play test the priest death knight with Raza and didnt instantly see a problem of 0 mana cost hero power that Refreshes being a bad thing. I think what would easily Fix this problem that blizzard keeps having is that if they actually didnt make sets that were over half a year in advanced. On the other hand im happy these changes are coming because Blizzard normally just sits by and watches the meta become extremely stall very quickly and i think these nerfs were long over due.
Out of every ban wave so far, this is the one I can get the most behind.
Patches, creeper and bonemare were broken cards that severely harmed the game due to their sheer power level. They should never have been printed in the first place.
Raza was broken in combination with anduin. This nerf was more than warranted, and they still made it so the deck will still be viable for people who enjoy playing it.
I agree, they are awful at balancing cards. They are too afraid to complicate cards, thus making them literally unplayable, instead of nerfing the interactions that made them too good. Not only that, they don't care about their playerbase as long as it's giving them money. Just look at patches. How long was this card in the game? Was it really that unusual to see it on ladder?
Blizzard should just pay more attention to community and react to it. Just like a mother cares for her child.
Warlock is pretty easy to build against. Double Spellbreaker will win you alot of games. plus there are some control decks that were bad cause Raza priest just instantly won.
Blizzard is pretty bad at nerfing, yeah. Their attitude at times is "we can't fix this card, so let's just kill it outright" (see Warsong Commander, Undertaker, Blade Flurry before Kingsbane happened, etc). While I imagine they did a bunch of testing to see what would work, sometimes the toys get thrown out of the walker and that makes me sad.
It's almost like their balance team is just 5 year olds changing numbers at random... Bonemare is still playable, patches is no longer good, getting it out for free is good but probably not good enough to be worth the slot, the raza one makes so highlander priest has to completely change its strategy to the point of maybe not being viable and as this deck was the only thing that really kept cubelock in check then embrace cause the meta is gonna be disgusting, people cry cause of all this decks, well they're gone and cubelock didn't even get looked at so it's all warlock now kids, fun meta you wanted... Also who tf thought the nerf to creeper was good? They absolutely murdered this card, this is probably the most destructive nerf since warsong commander, blizzard made the card unplayable and beyond, only people that want to have every card will keep it, otherwise is 800 dust.
Idk it's hard to balance a card game, although I wish they could do a more nuanced change than just modifying cost or attack. Like make corridor creeper reduce 1 Mana each turn a minion dies and this effect occurs in your hand or your deck. that way it's can't be 0 Mana until turn 7. changing Mana cost or stats because team 5 thinks its player base is dumb is a real problem. Especially since how many scientists play this game.

They don't nerf cards they delete them
One day this game will stop existing. I can't wait.

To answer your question: Fuck yes, Blizzard is bad at card balancing.
None of these cards should have been changed, IMO.
Ben Brode needs to stop fucking things up.

Blizzard wants this game to be played by kids and no-brainers, it's evident.
