Greetings, Behind this provocative title, I would like to point an issue out that crossed my mind today.
I am a Legend player (when I have the time to grind) but I often stop at rank 5 since the rewards are not worth the grind to legend. But that is not the main point. I noticed my average win rate varies between 63% and 68%, which is good enough. But, since the global average win rate is necessarily 50%, it means that there are people out there with a less than average win rate (like, for example, 45%). However, I have never met a single one and I am sure that everyone who is reading this text (Yes, you !) has a 50%+ win rate if he takes the time to open his deck tracker to check it.
So, where are the losers ? They necessarily, mathematically, have to exist, am I right ? I know that, sometimes, I AM the loser, and my loss makes the WR of the opponent who just defeated me go up, but I'm only losing, at max, 37% of the time, so it cannot justify the 60%+ WR of most people on this forum.
I also assume that, if you are that bad at HS, you are probably not going to specialized sites like Hearthpwn and, thus, that might be the reason I can never see you, but it seems a little too simple as an explanation to me.
What do you think about this issue ? I would like to hear your thoughts about it !
Thanks in advance !
(PS : As you might have noticed, english is not my maternal language; that is why I apologize for any mistake I could have made !)
68% is "good enough"? I question your numbers. If you truly had that rate above rank 5 then it wouldn't really even be that much of a grind to get to legend.
To answer your question, you don't see them because you are much higher rank than them, which should be obvious and makes me think this is just a thread to brag. You will never see a 40% WR player at rank 5, let alone legend, and the only people who talk about their WR on forums like this only do it if it's impressive. It's like asking a group of men to volunteer to tell everyone how well endowed they are. The only people who will do it are those that are far above the average.
Loser here. I've been playing since closed beta and never went past rank 12. Part of it is due to the fact that I'm F2P (and it's become harder and harder to keep up) but part of it is also the fact that I staight up suck at this game.
Oh, I didn't mean to sound offensive or pretentious, I apologize if my words were poorly chosen !
I acknowledge 68% is really good, but that is the peak I reach when I am playing my way to rank 5, not beyond, that is why it is that high. It does not solve the puzzle though : Sure, when I am on my way to rank 5 (just like most of you), especially if I am playing late in the month, I have neat win streaks at rank 17-10 and those players might be the "losers" I am looking for.
However, those players are facing most of the time "real rank 15 players", so their win rate should not be that much affected, should it ? Maybe I'm sucking at maths, but it's really hard for me to figure it out. I hope I have been able to speak my mind more clearly this time, sorry for the confusion !
Hearthpwn users are well above the average hearthstone player. Therefore the explanation is that the average users are not on this or similar sites. I know a few average guys (which recommended the game to me in the first place) and these guys never got above rank 10. But they do not care and therefore never check how to get better in the internet.
And as I understand your statement concerning the winrates, you imply that many on this site make them up. Well, that might also be the case. Maybe you do it as well...
I never hitted legend, never had the need to, i just play meme decks and give a fuck about winning. One over the top win with a meme deck is worth for every single game lost.

Alright, since it seems I should not have mentionned my WR, there you go. As you can see on the screenshot, it's 64% overall, which averages between the 68% I get from 17 to 5 and the 59% I get from 5 to Legend (but, since I am not making it to Legend each month, I have less (5 => L) matches than (17 => 5) matches, that's why the overall average is a bit nearer to 68 than 59 and that's why it is mostly varying between 63 and 68.
I apologize if it should be higher, I apologize if it should be lower, but PLEASE let's just forget about it and go back to the topic.
By reading some of the answers, I guess that the second hypothesis (People with lower WR do not show themselves that much since they are not going to Hearthpwn) is not far from the truth. Maybe I have underestimated the overall total number of players, compared to the number who is actually active in the community !
I'm probably just under 50%. I have never netdecked to climb ladder and never will, and therefore I will lose a lot trying to learn how to pilot my own creations through the meta. I suspect many of the people with winrates below 50% are in the same boat either through necessity or choice. I don't really think high ranked players are all that good, or that it's even that much of an accomplishment. Just a grind.

Look at this thing and let me know what you think!
But seriously, a lot, if not most, players are not net decking to rank 5 every month, so they never reach their "peak" win rate. I've been playing for 2.5 years and only netdecked 1 season. I'd rather enjoy playing odd decks of my own making around ranks 15-10, even if I have a win rate under 50. Hell, each month I'll spend several days playing meme decks with sub-40% win rates just for the fun of pulling off some crazy combo every now and then.

You lucky guy, I got a 0% WR in my last game, ahah ! I think you are right, there might also be a lot of decently skilled players who are part of "The losers", not because they are bad but because they like to run custom/fun decks.
Now I think of it, I do not think that, for one 60% WR player, there is a 40% WR player, but more ten 49% WR players, which is less striking at first glance.
Kinda lame thread man. What do you even want with it? To see people confess that they struggle?
Not at all, if I was sure there were people actually struggling, I would not have made this thread in the first place. I was genuinely surprised to never see anyone talking about a negative WR on this forum, at the point I wondered if it was really possible that there was one player with a negative WR for each player with a positive one. But, after reading some of the answers, I guess that's mainly because : 1) People with lesser WR are pretty much casual and are not posting on Hearthpwn, thus, there are less visible. 2) Some people hate to netdeck (something I can understand) and accept to have a negative WR, even if they are pretty skilled. 3) As ababyduck said earlier, people generally do not talk about their WR unless it's good, which might also explain why I have never seen anyone talking about it before.
You realise where these players are when you play a tavern brawl that is relatively balanced and introduces some of the more complex game mechanics - like the latest one. Of the 21 games I played I won 18.
Plenty of players climb well above their station on ladder due to the raw power of their netdeck, it essentially hand-holds them all the way. People like the guy above (Tanookijack) who never netdecks and plays his own creations, I would bet that he is technically a well above average player, and this would show in arena or tavern brawls like I mentioned. Give him that tier 1 netdeck and he'd climb all the way in considerably less time.
As there has to be a loss for every win, I think these are major losers:
1: New/bad/small-collection players struggeling to reach rank 15 at the end of the season. 2: Gold farmers at rank 20, conceding more than half of their games. 3: Players goofing around at or even farming gold/xp at ranked floors. 4: Players climbing rapidly in ranks because of winstreaks or disconnects despite low winrates, then they lose at higher ranks.

You don't have that average winrate. Your math is off.
I'm here, bro, what do you need? #40%WR

84% Winrate to Rank 5 here too... i wonder where all the losers are too? Kappa.
Bla bla bla. Look at me.
