So, there's definitely a feeling of "Called it" when it comes to the Azari, the Devourer deck. It's so ridiculously strong. The fact that Warlock now has the ability to call up seemingly never-ending waves of Voids to protect against any and all board threats means that stalling the game for Warlcok is now a piece of cake.
Sure, a solid burn mage deck might get through, but that seems about all that's able to counter this deck solidly at the moment.
The stats suggest that Aggro Paladin is good against this deck, but it's bneen hit and miss for me - especially if they get their early taunts up and their crazy "1-mana Heal for 8" spell!
Very balance, much design.
Anyway, that sounds a bit like a salty rant - which maybe it slightly is, but it's not intended to be. The point I was originally making was that most people I spoke to here or elsewhere all claimed Azari would be way too slow to be feasible / work in any reasonable way without getting swarmed over by aggro. But it appears that they were wrong - Warlock now has all the janksy tools it needs to become the new irritating deck - much like Ice Block Mages have been.
People suddenly stopped playing Razakus Priest to test out the new toys. When that deck comes back, grindy decks like control Warlock will once again have a lot of problems.
Played tons of Warlock couple days. Azari worked really just 2 times, both with big priest (burned 10-15 cards), usually u can not allow to cast that much useless 5 mana spells.
The power of today's warlock are another cards (that pull taunt or charge from hand or deck into play), not Azari.
I think the fact that the deck works realy evolves more about Voidlord/Skull of Menari beeing better than expected. Also meta is still pretty slow atm. with people trying things out.
This new control deck is awesome, but if it gets footing it'll promote more highlander priest in the meta until rotation.
I'm personally seeing about 50% control lock in my ladder matches and switching to priest just gave me free wins basically. Highlander just rolls over this deck.
And if highlander gets too common, in will come secret tempo mage and hunter. The whole meta is circular control lock is just popular ATM, probably because the ladder hasn't seen a control lock above t3 since Reno rotated out.
seems like it's less "rin deck" and more "a control deck that has rin"
Yeah, this is likely. It doesn't feel like Rin is the core ofd the deck.
But since I wasn't sure what the specific name for this deck is (yet) aside from "Control Warlock" I guess I went with the Azari as the name. That said - I believe that the controlling aspect of the deck is what makes Rin viable as a card / strategy
razakus priest wrecks Rin or any control warlock deck. 1 or 2 more weeks and people will stop playing meme decks, and the ladder will be filled with priest again.
many, many versions and some do better against different decks, the rin deck itself has completely evolved now to have lackies and void lords (you use no other demons) you pop your lackies for instant void lords and rush the seals out asap.
Ofc you have the n'zoth versions that run cubes as well and just give you a constant stream of big voidlords. I don't have n'zoth personally so never ran that version, but I have about 5 different control locks since the new meta started forming and all have done well.. ofc certain decks are hard counters, but teching things like dirty rat can really help out VS certain decks.
we're not meant to be able to steamroll every deck though, so ofc some decks will counter rin-lock pretty hard.
this is what a pure rin deck looks like, 2 tech slots that can have anything in them as well. rat and skulk are just there as examples.. I actually tend to prefer doomsayers.

ladder is already filled with priest at the bottom end. faced nothing but different variants of dragon priest yesterday that are capitalising on people trying to rush legend with face, aggro, tempo etc. if you tech dirty rat and or gnomferatu you can completely ruin razakus though, so it's not really the holy counter people claim it to be.

it is actually. both dirty rat and gnomeferatu are unreliable. sure, sometimes you will highroll them and ruin the combo, but they are not consistent enough to have a serious impact on the mathcup.

this is true, and why I don't really tend to run them and favour 2 x doomsayer instead. These are the tools we have though, otherwise we just have to hope that the gods of RNG shine upon us. ha ha.
I currently main the doomcube combo deck though, so I guess maybe I'm a masochistic player or something.
Maybe I should not have put all my resources into warlock decks in the first day the cards were out... but, meh.. I'm having fun.
Dragon priest is looking mighty fine right now. Think I'm going to buy a big pack of ungoro cards this week and hope i get most of the stuff for it as it seems most cards come from that set. I got myself duskbreakers and acolytes already in packs, so probably doable... just feels dirty playing priest... anduin probably tortures cats for fun.
Run is superfluous against almost all decks. Against jade jade druid, skulking geist is necessary and rin useless. The only matchups she wins are attrition matchups. Control mage and dead man's hand warrior. And if played early, she puts a clock on combo decks. Control warlock is just really strong so that they can afford to run a tech card for only one specific deck type.
Intestesting that you pointed out that Warlock to you became the new irritating deck, like Ice Block Mages, which indicates that you simply don't want to deal with them despite the tools Blizzard has given us to do so.
Much like Ice Block Mages can be dealt with Eater of Secrets, Silences, Dirty Rat, the same happens with Warlock, excluding the Eater of Secrets.
The problem is all in the mentality. "I have trouble dealing with X strategy, but I don't want to use Tech Cards to deal with X strategy, so I will go complain about it online instead".
i've seen azari get the dirty rat treatment, it's beautiful. sometimes the player will be running skull as well though and just shaft themselves. I have did that myself tbh, cost me the game as I died to fatigue.

yeah, this is true. rin isn't even needed most of the time, and pretty much works as a tech card for drawn out match up's.
You were complaining about this expansion being aggro-aggroer-aggroest the other day. Aggro Paladin was the new cancer deck. Now you're complaining about Control?

The warlock deck gets wrecked with mill rogue. And with the aggro paladin it does decent.
Actually, Warlocks don't even need Azari to be irritating. Demonlock, especially in Wild, seemingly has tons of comebacks and huge threats.
Anyway, i am confident that the meta is not yet as Tempo/Aggressive as it could be.
Also pretty sure Spellbreaker could be our new hero.
More meta refinement will hopefully keep Controllock at bay - that is, not overwhelming, however high in meta tiers.
People suddenly stopped playing Razakus Priest to test out the new toys. When that deck comes back, grindy decks like control Warlock will once again have a lot of problems.

I called rin would be on the playable side. And she's playable but not amazing. so there ye have it
That's Incredible!

you tech 99% vs aggro and run rin that's how it works.

100% rate against this deck with bane/mill rogue. It's so lopsided it's funny.
