If you silence a taunted Druid of the Claw it becomes a 4/6 and loses its taunt. However, if you silence a taunted Ancient of War it becomes a 5/5 and loses its taunt. Why does Druid of the Claw keep its +2 health, but the Ancient of War loses its +5 health?
I have yet to hear a good explanation. I am annoyed by the way those 2 cards work, and would prefer that Druid of the Claw become a 4/4 when silenced. I've argued with people about this irl and when they say things like "But then doc would lose a point and be below average" but the thing is that doc is played in most druid decks, I really don't think that changing it to be consistent with Ancient of War would keep anyone from playing it, and it would please the initiated and the uninitiated alike.

Druid of the claw is a 4/6 with taunt.
Ancient of war is a 5/5 with +5 health and taunt
For druid of the claw you chose between getting a 4/4 with charge or a 4/6 with taunt. For ancient of war you are chosing between a +5 health and taunt buff and a +5 attack buff for the 5/5 you get.
Why would a senjin (which is a 3/5) lose more than taunt when silenced? Druid of the claw gets no +2 health buff that can be silenced. Its a 4/6.
The card text is kinda irritating in this case because it says +2 health for the claw.
Because when you use druid of the claw you choose from 2 different card , 4/4 charge or 4/6 taunt, so if you silence those you only cancel their effects (charge and taunt). It's like a polymorph, if you silence the sheep you don't get back the original minion. Instead, Ancient of War buff himself, so if you silence him he lost the buff, while the druid of the claw lose only the taunt/charge.
This. Druid of the Claw allows you to pick a card for it to turn into, while Ancient of War allows you to pick a buff. Blizzard just keeps it simple with the effect descriptions.
That makes sense from a flavor perspective, and I think that it is a valid perspective and in this case is correct. But functionally the 2 cards say very similar things, and it is not clear why doc returns to hand as bear/cat but aow returns as aow, and can be silenced differently.
I think that my opinion on it is not as strong as my first post made it seem, but I do think that it would be better if there was better consistency between the 2 cards. I think that Hearthstone cards have few lines of text, and that is good, but it can be frustrating for people when subtle unexplained differences are hidden behind simple text.
I think that if aow silenced to a 5/10, it would be a little bit more powerful than it should be, and while I recognize that the way that doc works is he changes to 1 of 2 cards (bear/cat) I don't think that it would be unreasonable for this druid that used magic to shapeshift to turn back to his original self when silenced.
Also, when as the card pool grows, I think that it will be more annoying to remember these interactions, among others (I'm looking at you freezing/explosive trap.)
Druid of the Claw should be errated to "Choose one - Transform into a 4/4 with charge; or Transform into a 4/6 with Taunt." That's what's actually happening. One day they'll make a card that triggers whenever minions transform, and this wording will become important.

While the wording is the same, look at the token you get. In either case with AoW you have the same token. With DotC you have 2 different tokens. A follow up question would be about sap. Sap on DotC returns the token as is (4/6 taunt goes to hand, not the ETB card you originally played). Does sap on AoW return the original and you can choose the buff again?

Yes, Ancient of War reverts to 5/5 when it gets Sapped, but DotC keeps its form. Just like every other minion that transforms (like Faceless Manipulator).
Another difference is the colour of the stats. DotC has white stats, showing that it's not buffed. AoW has green stats, showing that it's been buffed, so silence will remove the buff to its stats.
i don't know, i suppose it's understandable to see it as inconsistent but it's always made sense to me. dotc gives you the option, one could say, of two different cards, and that's why if it gets sapped you get back whatever you chose, while ancient buffs itself. that's why when silenced it will lose taunt and 5hp, going back to the original 5/5.
What they said. Another difference is is Ancient of War gets sapped or returned to hand, you get to re-choose which buff he gets, but if your Bear or Cat are sapped, you only get the option to play whatever you previously picked.
Druid of the Claw transforms himself into bear or cat while Ancient of War buffs himself so you can silence the buf, but you only silence the ability(charge or taunt) of the cat or bear
With druid of the claw, you choose a taunt bear with 4/6 stats or a charge cat with 4/4 stats. With Ancient of War you choose for him to either have a +5 health taunt or +5 attack buff.
Just seeing how many different people we can get to say the exact same thing ;) haha.

I silenced a Druid of the Claw the other day and was very sad with the result. I didn't know Ancient of War would work differently. You learn something new every day!
1. Hover over card 2. little tab of added effects will be listed underneath the card; for example: "has taunt" "has +3 health" 3. realise if the effect is not listed in the tab OR ON THE CARD ITSELF it wont be removed.

There is something fishy with the cards. Look at the cards which pop up for you to choose from and decide.
Free to try and find a game, dealing cards for sorrow, cards for pain.
rules before silencing a card:
1. Hover over card
2. little tab of added effects will be listed underneath the card; for example: "has taunt" "has +3 health"
3. realise if the effect is not listed in the tab OR ON THE CARD ITSELF it wont be removed.
Slow and steady wins the game..
The Druid literally "shapeshifts" into a different card, while the Tree just buffs itself, and remains a tree.
