Standard is pretty boring now. Wild have more variants, but they need to do something with Secret Mage, APM Mage, and Darkglare Warlock to make the meta more healthy.
Best fix is to not play it. Simple. Take a couple of months break and then if you come back to play it understand that there is a very low skill level on the game. You want to play a skillful game, learn chess.

Great art can never be created without great suffering.
I have been feeling lately like Blizzard employs this development pattern of releasing broken content to outrage half of the players for hearthstone while absolutely delighting the other half. And then people talk and talk and talk about it, and then they fix it so the process can be repeated.
I sincerely doubt they are failing to play test as much as often some of these breaking moments would imply. I believe this pattern kind of began back around Galakrond, It has been nearly every release since then has created some new frustrating experience that half the players cannot shut up about and the other half must wholly commit to. Think about it—they used to never touch any of the cards. Nerfs were rare! And the meta shake up that came with them was super special. Now it’s like they release broken content so they can shake up the meta and keep people coming back to see if it’s “good” yet. I don’t know what their sales look like, I couldn’t say if it’s making them money. But we are probably never going to have the sort of balance that any of these nerf cycles seem to suggest is possible. Power creep has made any middling deck a thing of the past. There will always be a crazy tier one deck and the best nerfs are going to get us is maybe a second or third tier one deck.
I'm a fun of smart play, i love skill based decks I like to survive first part of the game, to draw big hand to have choice, and to make hard and smart choices, I love to know meta, and to play around opponents deck, and to outsmart my opponents
lets look at current meta Aggro/tempo: Tempo Rogue - no skill needed - just draw a prince Zoo Warlock - no skill needed - just go face Evolve Shaman - no skill needed - just draw evolve Aggro Token Druid - no skill needed - just get good start
OTK: Highlander Priest - a bit of skill is needed - just draw raza Secret Mage - no skill needed - just draw combo
Control: nothing playable
there is not a single spot for skill, the smartest choice (if you like to win) is to grab a luck based deck and cross fingers
So what happened to game i loved to play before? it is started with old gods - superpowerfull cards was added, first time it was not that bad - one or two mega cards in you opponents hand to play around, but with next expansion blizzard had to introduce something even more powerful in order to make new patch better, and then one more time, and again. So, now we have a huge amount of overpowered cards. And what happens when overpowered meets overpowered? Yes, wins that player who drew more overpowered card faster, what a fun.
RNG cards is another problem, but it was discussed many times.
What is a way to fix it? there are few ways to fix it: 1) to stop printing OP card - i'm sure blizzard not going to do that 2) to rise win conditions like to give each player more hp and bigger deck - this well make games last longer and blizzard never going to go this way 3) to find something better to play - this is the only thing i can do without blizzards assistance, but sadly there is no real competitors
so looks like the best thing i can do is to quit
There's your problem. In your world only pure control is skill based. You must really suck if you don't understand the skill of the other decks listed.
4 years ago i've made this post and left the game, what do you think now? Is it better now, or things continue to go wrong?
First, it's in poor taste to necro your own thread from four years ago. Just make a new thread with a link to the old one.
Second, "continue to go wrong" is in direct contradiction to your own poll results, where a clear majority voted that the game was not getting worse. You may not have enjoyed the direction of the game, but that doesn't mean it was actually "going wrong."
I personally took a long break toward the middle of the Witchwood expansion because I hated odd/even, and I definitely feel the game has improved since then. (How could it get any worse?) I did take another break for the first part of last year (Phoenix) because they had been so slow to patch obvious problems during the Year of the Dragon (Dr. Boom, Pocket Galaxy, Evolve Shaman). That year hadn't been as bad as odd/even, but it definitely made me less confident that Team 5 would make good decisions in the Year of the Phoenix, especially regarding the launch of the Demon Hunter class. (Turns out I was right to skip all that.)
Things have been much better since the DH nerfs. The Paladin meta was somewhat annoying, but not nearly as bad as previous metas, and they've pretty much nipped that in the bud. The meta at this moment is actually quite good. The Wailing Caverns mini-set has led to a lot more experimentation than anyone expected, and there are no massively OP Tier-0 archetypes at the moment.
Duels has been a disappointment, and Mercenaries is going to be an utter shit-show, of course, but constructed is doing just fine.

When you have 3 cards in hand there is not enough options to chose from...
Initially skill in hearthstone was to predict what cards your opponent most likely has in hand, what is his attack plan and which finisher-combo he is going to play against you, based on this prediction you was able play smart, sometimes best choice was to skip a turn, or to make obviously bad move to show opponent you have nothing, i had some decks that mimics popular ones but uses unusual finishers so noone was prepared to my deadly move.
that all ended with introduction of too many overpowered cards. when you can't predict what in your opponent's hand it is hard to build any long term strategy, and strategy to kill opponent asap is boring even when you lucky enough to draw some interesting starting hand
at the very start Legends of Runeterra was good enough, but they made same thing to their game even faster than blizzard, instead of long boring games with tricky strategies, with bluff, unexpected combos and move prediction, it started to be a clown fiesta, when you can start a turn with one card and 1 hp and full board on opponents side, and randomly draw/create/summon/steal something ultra powerfull, you can get 30+ cards and infinite mana of nowhere and kill everything heal yourself and win - this is not fun at all for me
It should be about prediction of expected moves, about probability calculation, an you opponent should predict your moves, most fun way to win is by tricking opponent expectations... not by performing a lucky clown fiesta thing
"continue to go wrong" is in direct contradiction to your own poll results
You should understand that this poll was made among players who play the game at that point, people who already left was not voting... Same as now, when I'm asking people who still paling the game... and happy about it...

Well that just smells like BS to be honest. Poll didn't go the way you hoped so you backtrack and if that was your conclusion then why on earth are you back, necroing your own thread from 4 years ago and asking the same question?
Game is better off without people like you man, just move on, it's perfectly fine not to like the game but hanging around and attention seeking whilst getting snappy because you're on a dedicated website for a game and you're unhappy that the community you left 4 years ago likes the game still? Find a hobby mate, learn a new language, do some charity work, play another game. Stop attention seeking.
It is cute you chose to "check in" on us fools still playing the game. You have a lot of neat points bro, but maybe keep your distance eh? Four years is actually kinda weird to circle back, and ask questions you genuinely know the answer to. If you're asking me, I think the game is fine. Started playing back in early 2017 the year you painfully left us. Still play here and there.... it's overall a good time.

Well, there's your problem. You think the game is "supposed to be" about only a tiny slice of what it's always been. Reading the opponent and playing around their strategy is only one part of the skill set needed in Hearthstone.
Another part is the ability to react to emergent situations. Believe it or not, it is possible to learn to deal with the unexpected, and good Hearthstone players are able to do that. it's too bad you didn't figure that out back in the day -- maybe you could have had a better time.

game is better then ever. Just play wild joy not the standard rip off
But if everyone did that, the player base would have no one to talk down to for playing modes other than wild; and at the end of the day, is there really any other point of playing wild other than to let everyone know you play wild?

Listening to standard peeps whine to death about the current incarnation of control priest is rather satisfying, ngl.

Well hearthstone has been going straight downhill from 4 years ago, no need to check back in :) Just quit :)
