Hello guys, im kinda new to this game, and after few months playing i need advice on starting my journey based on my progress so far (i will add my collection link to this thread later as im making this thread via smartphone)
So here is the thing i want to ask:
1. Based on my collection, is it worth it to preorder the new expansion? How far would it take me to boost my game? Assuming my skill ladder is at average finishing rank 8 each mont
2. How should i spend gold? Should i accumulate before expansion and then spend all of it on new expansion or should i spend all on arena? Is it better to save or just spend it daily on arena/packs (i have karazhan and welcome pack bought)
3. For crafting/Disenchanting, what kind of cards do you think i should craft based on my collection (Currently I'm running tempo rogue deck/secret mage) as my laddering deck
4. As per my condition now, is it better to run arena or laddering? Eventhough i have only around 2-3 average win on arena, is it better to spend on arena to improve my skill and eventually reap bigger reward in the future?
If you're averaging 2-3 wins in arena you shouldn't invest more on it until you get your game to a higher level. Kripparian is a good arena player, you can watch his stream or youtube channel and learn from it.
You should be careful with what you disenchant. Try to avoid it as much as possible because you never know when a mediocre card will find a home in a good deck. If you really need the dust to be able to start playing with a near-complete version of a deck, dust only what you need and try to only dust terrible cards. Golden version give you extra dust, so in order to keep your collection growing it's reasonable to dust them until you're no longer short on dust.
It will probably be worth it to buy the expansion, but probably wait until they release all the spoilers.
Hey there! If you'd like someone to idly talk things over with (seeing as questions always go better with a more flexible place to talk) and you're on the NA server, feel free to friend Me0203#1962. I've got a few years of experience with cards, decks, laddering, and arena runs, so I can vaguely answer most of your questions or point you in the right places :)
1. So you can upload your collection using innkeeper. That way we can comment more on your collection. Assuming relatively new means you joined after Un'goro, and didn't preorder KotFT, if you plan to start putting money in the game (not necessary to have fun, only if you want to be able to play more tier 1 decks each meta), I would wait for the expansion after K&C, when standard rotates. If you pay now, you'll spend €50, and not be able to craft good decks, as you are missing 4 expansions. Also last expansion of the year is the one with the shortest shelf life. So save loads of gold and spend it all until you get, say 3 legendaries. And then maybe the following expansion, if you are enjoying hearthstone, and don't want to mine so much gold, preordering would be a good idea.
2. Now save all gold for the next expansion. Normally I accumulate 4k-5k and then start playing some arena when I feel like it. If you are starting a new collection, I think being able to open many K&C packs will help you more towards building a good collection. As a general rule, try to have 4k gold for new expansions, and then use money freely, as you enjoy it more. Being arena, opening new packs, or however you feel (avoid at all cost spending it in heroic tavern brawls, one should be coming up soon).
3. Again, if you upload your collection we can give you better advice on this. Reaching rank 8 is a great start, so you seem to have some good decks. In Hearthstone reaching rank 5 is the best target in respect effort and reward. So you are very close. Keep it up!
4. Whatever is more fun for you. Your arena averages aren't great, you should try to have an average of 4-5 wins. So you shouldn't look right now at arena as an efficient investment. But if you enjoy it more than ladder, go ahead. Its about having fun at the end. Like they said as well, looking at good arena players will surely help you to improve. At the end it is just practice and learning the threat and which are the good cards (Heartharena is very useful guide for that).
1- Preordering the new expansion is a good deal, 50 packs for the price of 40, if u wanna invest on HS, then yes.
2- collect gold for the new expansion, 50 packs from Preorder + 30 packs or more from the collected gold will give u everything u need from the new set.
3- dont, ever, never disenchant a legendary or an epic just for extra dust, even if the card is so unplayable, wanna dust it ? make sure u will craft an essential epic card or a legendary, but for crafing if u wanna play a deck and u miss irreplaceable card, priority is for the classic cards, u will benefit from them with the long run + classic cards are used with alot of decks from the specific class ( Tirion Fordring - Edwin VanCleef ), Tirion can be played with: Murloc paladin, Deathrattle paladin, Handbuff paladin, etc,, you see ? as a new player save ur dust for legendaries that can be used in several decks or a legendary than can be played in a tier 1 deck and he cant be replaced. ( Prince Keleseth with tempo rogue - Raza the Chained with Highlander Priest )
4- Arena is really hard, even if u reach rank 10 to rank 6, getting 5 wins isnt an easy thing, but sure is a good think if u can reach 2 wins or more each run, will give u coin for the next set and u can get the latest exp pack, 2 birds with one stone.
Also, be careful to research the cards you want to craft and DE, so you dont fall into traps. I went with my pack luck, and slowly crafted my first complete competetive deck from that, having a great time watching it come together.
If you want to spend money on packs, preorders gets you the best value.
Patience is key. I committed the atrocious mistake of dusting legendaries and epics I thought I'd never use when I started playing the game. That takes you to crafting a deck fast that either end up useless within a few month or you realising it was a bad call.. Which takes you again dusting the cards to get any deck that can get at least two wins in a row in the current meta... Which ends up a ugly circle or dust inefficiency and frustration. My above is to pick a few classes maybe 2-3 and focus on those, just to make sure you stay versatile or not get bored playing the same while maximizing your progress with a class. Dust only when you are certain a card is plain bad (you can find a legendary dusting guide based on priority). Or if you will craft someone of greater value. Like dusting to craft a common legendary that fits many archetypes . About arena as a new player might suck. I recommend you try to get as many free packs from rewards (you can find the list of achievements and rewards online), and save your gold for the next month's expansion. Claim the free packs from frozen throne adventure, and don't stress in ladder. Try to get to rank 20 for monthly loot and the weekly brawl for free pack.soon you will rekt,
1. First of all, if you can afford preordering and it doesn't bother you - do it. I always preorder and it's better.
2. If you're completely new, invest in some classic packs first and concentrate on 2-3 classes you are going to play. By that I mean crafting only those class/neutral legendaries you are sure to use in the future. Notable examples - Bloodmage Thalnos, Edwin VanCleef, maybe even Leeroy Jenkins, but be careful with the last one, as he's replacable.
3. Standard rotation is coming in april, so don't waste gold/money/dust on cards that will go away (One Night in Karazahn, Whispers of the Old Gods, Mean Streets of Gadgetzan). When you'll have some stuff, get Un'Goro, maybe Knights (the last one has SOME decent cards, mostly Death Knights, so feel free to ask for advice on Hearthpwn).
4. Since you're not getting duplicate legendaries as long as you have one, it's hard to say if you should disenchant even the shitty ones, as you might get them 2-3 times (like me getting 3x King Mukla).
5. Play casual to do some quests and learn the game. Download Heartharena and watch Kripparian/Hafu play Arena. It's slightly difficult and quirky, but if you can get 3+ wins on a regular basis you'll be getting packs cheaper. From 6+ wins you get a pack and a free Arena run (which means a guaranteed pack and enough gold to get a refund).
6. As for saving gold for the next expansion - with KoFT I've saved almost 4k gold and preordered 50 packs. After launch I've used up all my gold in the Arena and got more packs than I would buying them straight. It might be tedious a bit, but fun in the long run and you'll get a better result cards-wise. Plus you'll test the new cards before laddering.
7. For starters you can try some cheap f2p decks - some zoo/tempo stuff, aggressive Hunter decks etc.
8. Don't get upset - the game has a shitty new player experience and you've started it kinda in a bad spot, as there's a lot of cards to cover, but with rotation it will change.
If you've got more questions, PM me if you want to. If you're playing in EU, you can add me as well. Also, if you don't have lvl 20 account, look for some "Invite a friend" posts - you might get a free classic packs. One more thing - google "Hearthstone hidden quests" - there's gold and packs for some achievements you won't see in your quest tray, so it's worht checking out.

Yes thank you! i already did the same mistake and now i kinda regret it. I will try my best to save up for upcoming expansion after kobold then
Also, be careful to research the cards you want to craft and DE, so you dont fall into traps. I went with my pack luck, and slowly crafted my first complete competetive deck from that, having a great time watching it come together.

Good luck, I hope you enjoy the game!
Thanks for reply! ive read the list and having a hard time which to craft because i kinda dont know which to craft because i kinda confused should i craft because it's mandatory and versatile legendary card or should i craft based on specific needs of certain decks that i want to build

Thank you for reply, i kinda wonder how far would it boost my performance if i preorder 50 packs
for disenchanting etc ive done it already according to my friend advice(duh) because he implied that we should focus on one deck that we want to play and keep grinding on it, just dust unnecessary cards to build your deck. Now i kinda regret it because u guys suggest so.
4. Thanks so it's better to spend all gold on new expansion if i save up rather than arena ya?

yea i heard that in hearthstone you get the best chest ranked value at rank 5?
for kobold i think i might dont have enough gold that u suggest (4k) because i spend it so much on kft and arena be4 so i think i will start to save gold during kobold launch till the next expansion launch for next expansion after kobold i have to save gold 4k as you said

Hi guys,
I have uploaded my collection via innkeeper, would you be kind to give me advice based on the collection i have?
Wow seeing all the comments make me realized i made a terrible mistake by dusting epic and legendary that i dont need to craft certain card for me to build a deck? what should i do now?
should i just keep playing with my existing deck but as i realized that my collection is thinner now because epic and legend that i dusted.
I am ok with going for pre order if it's going to boost my performance (maybe because i have better access to better cards?) but i wonder how far would it boost my game? because i kinda want my investment to be worth it.
Wow! You have a pretty good starting collection there. All the good rares and commons are there. Yes, missing many epics and legendaries. But unless you put a lot of money in the game you will never have them all. You just need to have the ones you use and need. And in that front you are doing well enough. So I wouldn't worry too much.
Yes, your collection method has not been ideal and long term sustainable, but I wouldn't worry. Thanks to your strategy you have some very good decks. This allows you climb higher in ladder and compete better. Way more fun than fighting in rank 15 and being run over by better decks. So I wouldn't even say it was bad for you. But if you plan to build a collection long term, I think it is smart to only disenchant those epic and legendaries of which you have too many of, or have rotated out.
Like I said, your collection seems complete of good rare and commons. Only good ones which are just very good neutral cards are a second Golakka Crawler and Stonehill Defender. I imagine you won't be opening more Un'goro packs, so it is not very likely you will open them. If you ever feel you need them, craft them, they are just very good. Others like Primalfin Totem and Despicable Dreadlord are very good, but they are in classes you don't have a good collection yet. So I wouldn't worry until you decide to make good decks in those classes and need them. Also, if some day you want to craft a new legendary for fun you can craft The Lich King. It is neutral, it will last, strong and versatile. It works in your mage and rogue deck, and even can work in hunter if you make it mid-range instead of aggro. But it is not necessary at all.
With respect to your dusting, I saw you dusted Moroes and Prince Malchezaar, which is well done, as they are useless. I notice that you've opened only 4 packs of MSG, and have only one legendary, Patches the Pirate and no Epic. Not sure if you already had an MSG epic and dusted it, got Patches from the pack, or got another MSG legendary, dusted it and crafted patches. If you have not got any MSG legendary yet, you are guaranteed one in your first 10 packs. So continue opening the other 6 packs to collect yours (and also an epic). But if you already got an MSG legendary, don't bother opening more from them.
With respects with your decks.
Hunter: Hunter its just the good cards, and mixing them as you enjoy it more. Only change I would do is Dire Wolf Alpha for a second Golakka Crawler. All other possible changes are just a question of taste and what you find your self more comfortable with. Stitched Tracker for Deadly Shot, Jeweled Macaw for Fire Fly and Tracking. But non are important changes, and they are tech choices you make depending on how you feel about it.
Mage: Again. It is just a good secret mage. Like Hunter, this deck is limited by its power against the other decks, so not many changes. Because it is a tempo deck, I would clearly change Frozen Clone which is just value, for a Mirror Entity which gives you a lot of tempo. Even a second Mirror Entity for the Spellbender if you are seeing it is not doing too great and not running into many Paladin.
Rogue: I will concentrate on this deck, as it is the most likely to take you to rank 5, and is clearly the one you invested most on. I recommend you to mostly play this one (I don't play Rogue, and I'm tired of seeing it in ladder, so I am hating myself for recommending this). You do not need two Spellbreaker. One is just fine if you want to tech it in. To compensate lack of four drop you can add Naga Corsair. You also need more one drops for consistency. Therefore I would add two Fire Fly (It also makes your combo cards easier to activate). You also have three five drops, therefore your lack of early game and extra late game, means that you will loose the board too easily early on, and your deck excels most when it owns the board. Now Cobalt Scalebane is the favourite five drop (I guess you use two spellbreakers to silence your Bittertide), but you can tech in the Bittertide Hydra. But make sure you only have 2 five drops. Play around with your tech cards, until you get the deck you like the most. Plague Scientist is goods if you get way too many taunts, else it looses too much tempo. Similar with two Tar Creeper, only useful if you find too much early aggro. You can also add a second Vicious Fledgling, or a second Southsea Captain. But all the last things are tech choices. You play around with those options until you find the deck that you like the most and gets you the best results.
If you pre-order K&C do not expect to have a great boost to your performance. It will only give you about 4 legendaries and some more epics. And you will still be missing 4 other expansions and most of classic. Most decks will only have a couple of the cards you get. Pre-ordering is good. Saves you a lot of grinding, and allows you to enjoy the first weeks when everyone is experimenting in the meta. But don't expect it to get you to legend or anything like that. Most people pre-order and then spend an extra 4k of gold in packs in order to have a more complete collection. But with pre-order you will be able to play one or two top decks in the next meta. Thats fine for most of us. So don't worry. Just enjoy the game, that is the real important thing!
I've checked your collection and if can cough up 800 dust somehow, you could craft 2x Living Mana and play Aggro Druid. The deck's cancer a bit (not as much as it used to be :P), fairly easy to pilot, has some bad MU's but it's generally strong. Also you can try and make a pretty decent Aggro/Midrange/Secret Hunter deck, though don't craft DK Rexxar yet, as it's too close to the new expansion.
As for the future - I'd farm some classic packs tbh. You've got decent legendaries (good ones, honestly!) like DK Jaina/Malf, you've got Prince Keleseth and Patches the Pirate as well as Mr 99/99 Edwin VanCleef. and Leeroy Jenkins. The whole problem is that you don't really have most commons and rares to build Keleseth decks atm, so I'd focus on some Arena grinding and opening classic packs. You could make Keleseth Zoolock, but you lack cards like Darkshire Councilman, Despicable Dreadlord, Doomguard.
Focus on bulking your collection up with the mundane, and you'll be fine. One thing though - I don't really recommend disenchanting and crafting cards NOW. We're having less than a month before Kobolds, so save up. If you can preorder, preorder.

Hi!
I recommend the list at the bottom of this OP for new players, the most powerful neutral cards in the game are actually rares and commons!

Also, be careful to research the cards you want to craft and DE, so you dont fall into traps. I went with my pack luck, and slowly crafted my first complete competetive deck from that, having a great time watching it come together.
If you want to spend money on packs, preorders gets you the best value.
Good luck, I hope you enjoy the game!

Try to get to rank 20 for monthly loot and the weekly brawl for free pack.soon you will rekt,
What would Uther do?.
Few points fast:
I've no clue what I'm doing...
Double post.
Bad connection :(
Hi guys,
I have uploaded my collection via innkeeper, would you be kind to give me advice based on the collection i have?
http://www.hearthpwn.com/members/Realityrift/collection
Wow seeing all the comments make me realized i made a terrible mistake by dusting epic and legendary that i dont need to craft certain card for me to build a deck? what should i do now?
should i just keep playing with my existing deck but as i realized that my collection is thinner now because epic and legend that i dusted.
Here's the deck list that i have for laddering:
http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/963079-prototype-tempo
http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/963078-midrange-hunter
http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/963076-secret-mage
Sooooo...
I've no clue what I'm doing...
It always feels good when you read a thread such as this and learn something even though you have been playing for a really long time! Well Read.
I enjoy.
