I can't help myself but as a competitive player I found myself even grinding ladder with meta decks now during off-season xD I still like to grind top 100 legend even if it's for nothing these months..
I am playing around: 10% Meta-decks 20% Homebrew ones where I want to try out a certain synergy 70% Meme/Fun decks (mostly homebrew ones)
That's how this game should work. But the ladder/ ranking system is giving a disincentive using this strategy. So we will stuck at rank 15 getting rekt by meta netdecks...
Usually it goes like this. Get to rank 15 with some deck in the first days of a season. Have fun playing weird decks in casual for the rest of the month.
I usually get to rank 15 in the first week and then I play a lot of arena for a while and then in the last 2 weeks I push to rank 5, I just use whatever decks I enjoy, I don't care if they are considered as cancer or whatever, I love Higlander priest, Evolve shaman, Dragon priest, some Zoolock and lately I've been enjoying a bit of Tempo rogue, I usually customize my own decks but honestly if you have an idea of the meta the decks end up looking pretty similar, it's more about preferences like running elemental or corpsetaker or standart tempo rogue oe running "techs" like Sea Giant on evolve shaman.

that's true. With this method, the highest I got was rank 12. Only at the end of the month, I start playing seriously but well, I guess I take it. It's just a videogame, nothing else, shouldn't be taken too seriously.
Just click on "playing my very own decks" if you play some meme creations from Hearthpwn or sth like tier 4 handbuff paladin.
Pretty much all I do. Que up in competitive wild with home-brewed randomness to grind towards golden heroes. Currently (and alarmingly), my 30-Legendary Minion deck is sitting at rank 13.

Why is this "how it should work"? People play for different reasons, and enjoy different things. Why is it that your idea of the game should be the only one that is used? I just don't understand this hatred for anyone who plays the game for a different reason than you.
Sad to see the majority is doing dailies and hoping for the best on the next go around...
I am slowly becoming a part of this category, but I'm still climbing ladder with my own decks. Definitely always hoping the next expansion will be better, but it's usually never "better" just different.

I am mostly an Arena player (90% + of my HS time is Arena), but this season I am focused on hitting legend, so about 95% of my time is playing ladder with meta decks and making videos about it. Right now I'm stuck at rank 6 w/Tempo Rogue and I'm getting a bit discouraged. I Just want to hit rank 5 so I can experiment with deck ideas without losing rank.
Just dont think by changing 1-4 cards youre playing different non meta deck. :)

The thing is, unless you are meme-ing it's hard to have completly unique deck. For example when you are building a warlock deck and you start with Bloodreaver Gul'dan, you will add some demons for the synergy and you will usually go for the demons that are good: Abysall Enforcer, Despicable Dreadlord and Voidwalkers. After that you realize that you need some healing and you add Siphon souls and Siphon soul has nice synergy with Medivh and Medivh has nice synergy with Twisting Nether and so on.
Even if you are not netdecking you still end up with deck that is similiar to meta decks, simply because it's hard not to include good cards in your deck.
For my information.

30% Arena
30% Ladder with meta deck
15% ladder with my own deck on alt account

Getting to rank 10 every season with my own n'zoth mage in wild. Playing for fun and don't have time to grind for higher ranks.
Where is the "I hate playing against the same decks with too op cards so I play up to rank 20 and then go to the innkeeper" option?

Bitch i'm Willy Wonka!
Does the deck in my signature qualify as "my very own"?
I guess i'm somewhere between "playing on ladder with my own decks" and "log in daily to complete a quest" (for which I tend to use netdecked stuff).
