so normally I NEVER bm. Ever. If my opponent is bming, I squelch, or concede if he clearly has lethal.
I have hit top 150 legend already this month - I was sick so had lots of time to grind. I spend a lot of my free time watching tournaments.
I find myself matched with a semi-famous pro, (gonna leave his name out of this), and I tune into his stream! Listening but not looking at his cards (I’ve done this before, I fought kibler many months ago and listened while playing, never once looked at his hand. It was so much fun because it almost makes me feel like I’m directly communicating with him, and that makes a guy like me extremely happy!)
so anyways, I’m matched with this pro, first thing out of his mouth is he called me an idiot for my mulligan (I kept 1/3/4 in tempo rogue instead of going for Prince). That continued by the rest of the game constantly putting me down, calling names, saying my text choices are moronic, I am an idiot that I’m “garbage”, etc. he got prince off and I didn’t, and near the end of the game, I had enough of his belittling. I considered turning the steam off but decided to just rope the last couple turns until I BM’d the finishing blow, all the while listening to him say how he hopes I die, I’m a shitty human being, etc. I was not going to look at his hand but around turn 5 I had enough of his treatment.
What would you guys have done differently? Honest answers please. I love facing pros, makes me feel good about myself, but he tilted me!
Edit: most of the comments were saying “LOL,” “GG,” “SHOULDNT HAVE RAGED, HES TILTED.” Etc... haha
edit 2: after seeing everyone’s replies, and sleeping on it, I agree I took it way too far and should not have sunk that low. I would like to publicly apologize for BMing fenomeno and if anyone could point me to somewhere I can PM and apologize to him that would be great. Thank you all for the interesting conversation and points you guys raised.
You can always post here xp I will be honest, i think the way he talked about you is shitty, maybe he was having a good game and saying that to the air, still it's just stupid saying that on a live stream. And i' m glad you told me that, because now he lost a viewer/ subscriber/ follower :D (as i understood it was Pavel)
Normaly, players that are good and stream kind of think thay are the best, but they aren't, normally what dictates many legend matches is the luck on mulligan/ draw/ adding random cards to the and, so yeah he is not the best, i think it's impossible to be the best in hearthstone, since theres a lot o Luck factor.

Yeah that’s very true! No it wasn’t pavel I was matched with. Pavel is away at a tournament during my match with the unnamed pro. I guess I could name him, but I don’t want to sink to his level and have everyone think he’s a crappy streamer (although obviously I think so now).
The rest of your post I agree with! There’s a lot of luck involved especially with the mirror. My tech choices are to counter priest, warlock, and Druid - not to help me in the mirror. He was certainly favored (before the tilting and sniping :P)
Well, if it had happened to me, I would assume the guy was having a rough day and it carried over into his your game. I would have maybe waited 5-10 minutes, then posted something in his chat along the lines of "Hey, I'm the Rogue you played against a few games ago and I heard some of the things you said on stream. Sorry if you've been having a rough day. I know what that's like."
If he's a responsible and civilized adult, hopefully he'll feel bad about trash talking and apologize of his own volition upon realizing you're human too and not just some enemy in a game. If he doesn't, oh well, you tried your best.
Personally, I would have turned off the stream the moment I got matched up with him, before he started talking about his mulligan. Having a player discuss his mulligan decisions with his stream gives you a great deal of unfair advantage, and the same goes for continuing to listen to him explain his plays during the game. If he is like Kibler, which you said you also sniped, then he will give well detailed information on his plays, so looking at the stream is not even requires, listening is enough. I'm not the kind of player that enjoys cheating or getting unfair advantages, so that is the first change I would have done.
From that moment forward, I have no information of what the streamer is or isn't saying about me and my plays and everything else, so I have no need to proceed to BM him, I would just complete the game and in case the game was fun or I had something I wanted to discuss, add the player.
Clearly, you have different opinions and stances, so you went with a path I would not have chosen myself.
That’s a fair opinion. Although like I said, against a respectable opponent, I have never once sniped before (I.e. kibler). And as for the mulligan phase - he was mocking my decisions to keep my cards, he did not talk about HIS mulligan, he was just talking shit about mine.
Talkin mess is part of the hearthstone game, it's also part of streaming. That salt is what keeps people coming back. Don't take it personally just remember its part of the show and be glad you were a part of it. If you try to que into him regularly you could be what Malek was to Forsen for a long time. It's fun having a nemesis but its also fun being a nemesis. Try to enjoy it man.

Well, you are not a respectable opponent either. You were streamsnipping him, so regardless of whether he knows this fact or not, you are also not a respectable opponent. It doesn't matter who you are playing against, an honorable player would simply have closed the stream right the moment you had been matched with him. You didn't do this, you continued to listen in on what he was saying.
Note that I'm not defending his insults. Your post asks how I would act in your situation, not in the situation of the Streamer/Pro. If I were in the situation of the Pro, I would not be using insults. I would talk about my mulligan, about your mulligan, the card choices and so on, provide my opinions, I wouldn't be wishing cancer on your family because I'm not a 10 year old. I could point out your mistakes in the game, nothing wrong with that.
But regarding the question you started with, yes, I would not even be listening to the stream, it is not a respectable action to be stream snipping. If you enjoy cheating and getting unfair advantages on your opponents, I guess good for you, but do understand, it is not a respectable thing to do. You wouldn't like any of your opponents to do that against you.
You’re damn right I wouldn’t. That’s exactly what I was trying to say. I was not stream sniping until the condescending words and actions came out. Listening in the background while watching the office gave me 0 advantage, until I pivoted and CHOSE to use the advantage, in retaliation of what he was saying. I gained 0 useful information about his hand, mulligan, etc until I looked at my phone. I totally get what you’re saying, and that’s what this thread is all about - what people would have done (the same, or differently).
I also did not (to my knowledge) make any mistakes in the game - I simply chose a different mulligan strategy. His bm (initially) was unwarranted.
So he was saying he hopes you get hit by a car, your whole family gets cancer, and it is YOU who is a shitty human being?
That's some major fucked up shit there the guy probably needs serious mental help, reacting like that if you are broadcasting, what a fucking arsehole. No wonder people are dicks in this game if that;s how public personas act.
I only watch Hafu playing arena really (as you can probably tell, I'm not offended by her sweary Mary persona, plus she's excellent at arena and isn't a miserable git like Kripp), the occasional Kripp moan on Youtube and some of Toast's analysis stuff. And the Kiblers are a laugh as well if they stream together when arseholed.
Since a lot of people seem interested, it was Fenemeno. He is someone I have enjoyed watching for years (on tournaments), but have never tuned in to his stream until yesterday (the incident happened today). I’ve seen him rage and get tilted, but it was never as bad as his game against me today.
I think the police is a tad taking it far, but I will seriously consider sending a ticket to blizzard. It’s VERY unfortunate that I did not record the game today. :/
Edit : well said mungo - I agree. I am saddened at how many impressionable minds that watch him stream and think it’s ok to say those things. Probably a lot of people that think “well if the pros do it, so can I.” :/
If you didn't, (has an O instead of the second E) why don't you send him a friendly PM here on Hearthpwn (he was last active 3 days ago).
That is a good idea. I will probably do that. If he rages, I can have concrete proof - but if he apologizes, we can move forward. I don’t want to get in trouble by posting his name (not sure the exact rules), but everyone was asking, so I posted it... and no idea how to spell it to be honest.
Sounds like OP is trying to justify stream sniping. Two wrongs brother, two wrongs...
Both behaviors are inappropriate in there own way, neither are sportsman like. Also, listening is still sniping especially for any legendary caliber players.
Alright man, I see what you’re saying. Your logic is sound and what you are saying makes sense. I can’t prove that I got “subtle advantages” before I decided to utilize them or not. But I know the truth, and I know that I did not GET or USE any advantages that could have been presented to me. Agree to disagree

Listening can be considered sniping, sure, but if I’m interacring with kibler, a specific emote that makes him laugh, that interaction is worth a lot more to me than the 1% guilt of hearing “should I play thing from below or thrall?” Or whatever I might hear regarding his hand. I will never be a pro player, I will never play in high level tournaments, and in my opinion what I am doing is not wrong nor a significant advantage. I totally see where y’all are coming from, and I knew people would feel this way before I posted - but that’s how I feel.

i'd become a world champion and then rub it in his face
or
not give a fuck

You didn't do anything wrong. What's his name? I would hate to ever contribute to someone like that.

I think you have to send a ticket to twitch, not blizzard. Or send to them both.
