Wtf is up with arsehole priest players saying greetings at the end of a match...have lost to two priests in two days that did this...makes me want to end them
I think the emotes are completely pointless. I always squelch my opponent at the start of each match, and I never use any of the emotes myself. I just really wish that there was a menu option or game setting to always squelch the opponent without having to manually do it each time.
I try to greet at the start and well played at the end. Emote spammers get a squelch. Except one time, the idiot was spamming after every turn while losing. I was playing hunter and had them down to 3 points. I only had one 2 damage minion on board and they had 3 minions none with taunt. Instead of killing my minion and doing some damage they went all in and hit face. They couldnt kill me but drove me to one. Besides the greeting my only other emote was a well placed "That didnt quite hit the mark" a hit from my minion and hero power killed them. I was smiling for a good bit after that one.
I normally just send a 'Greetings' at the start and a 'Well played' at the end regardless of who has won. If anyone wants to read some weird perceived insult into that that's their prerogative.
I'm not saying you have aggro decks, but when Pirate Warrior and Aggro Druid trash emotes: "Well Played" I pisses me off like a lot.
Aggro Druid can end the game by turn 5 (STILL), and a nice "Well Played" just rubs it in even more. Aggro trash loves to show off their small "cards" with emotes it seems.
I almost exclusively play Arena so what kind of deck my opponent is piloting rarely comes into it
That's cool man. I just saying that emotes can piss some people off, and stuff :)
I just do greetings at the start. I might emote oops if the opponent made a mistake, not to be mean but to sympathize or alert him to a mistake for his own benefit.
I never emote Well Played at the end unless it was a good game, win or lose. If an aggro/ face or mindless deck beats me and emotes Well Played, I'll emote Thanks back because those decks don't deserve a well played.
Auto-squelching for me is like putting my seat belt on. To the point where several times during the KFT PvE content I tried to squelch the AI at the start of the game.
TL;DR: Don't emote "well played" (or anything else really) when you're about to win the game unless the other player did it first. That is if you're at all concerned about trying to be generally nice to someone who didn't do anything to you.
This is something a lot of people who haven't played competitive games before miss. It's really frowned upon at the higher ranks, and since that's where you're likely to get matched against the same person again a lot of players will BM the piss out of someone who "well played" them when winning.
Thanks, my sanity was restored a little.
Yeah, I don't bother climbing after rank 5 anymore, so I can't really speak for high level competitive HS, but in MTG this was something you had to learn quick. To be fair it happened less often as mtg generally offers more options for you not to just lose a game, imo mainly because you can actually interact with your opponent during his turn. But sometimes one side just gets manascrewed for 2 games in a row and that's it, 3 points for me and 0 for you... it can happen to anyone and it doesn't mean the best player won, so there's no need to act like the guy doesn't have a reason to be upset.
But I understand how people may think it is more polite to greet and gg, that's why I made this thread.

Ok, Im' old school and I really feel unpolite if I forget to say Hello but I got your point so, even if I feel some people here should stop trying to find rudeness behind well played or thanks.
I now stick to hello unless there is really something exceptional in the game (then I might lack self-control ;-p )

I hate more when people know they will lose and they leave the game without concede. Please just concede and close hearthstone, stop wasting my time

If you are in your first year of playing please read this post.
Dust does not burn a hole in the jar. Be careful what you craft, especially before and right after a rotation.
I let ppl emote one time during a match after that you get the squelch I’ve had too many experiences with ppl bming it ruined it for everyone
