The other hunter thread has some misinformed people justifying hunters' lack of heal based on WoW lore, where they supposedly don't have heals. Which is a complete absurd (WoW hunter main here, just check sig and avatar :D). They DO, and a lot of them! I wonder why Blizz still didn't implement them in HS (class fantasy probably, but could be for balance issues too).
Exhilaration: direct spell that heals you for 30% of your healthpool! This could make for a very powerful direct heal spell, like priests', druids' or paladins' equivalents (Greater Healing Potion sees ocasional play), though that would be SO boring! Instead, I thought about a heal card that you can tweak your deck into. The obvious hunter synergy: beasts!
Spirit Bond: weapon trait that heals you for 15% of Kill Command's damage. This would be the equivalent of Lifesteal mechanic. Just give us better hunter minions with Lifesteal, or spells such as the one below. Again similar to priest and warlock's mechanics but... Team 5 could always try to bring something more unique to the table (or not). Besides, an AoE + heal spell could make a viable late game hunter, as changing the hero power could not, repeatedly. I set it as an Epic for Arena balance.
Spirit Mend: spirit beasts are a huge part of playing a Beast Mastery hunter in WoW. They are usually rare spawns or hard-to-tame beasts and among the favorite pets to hang around with for many hunters. Spirit beasts have this skill that heals the hunter for a tiny amount, but they cast it constantly on a fixed cooldown, giving us some sustained heal. One of these is Arcturis, the spectral bear. I gave him taunt and a huge heal, while also fitting the lore. Against aggro, turn 6 is a fair time to heal up, if you manage to trade well with their board while dealing damage with your beasts (yes, minion trading damage would have to count). Against other control decks it could reach a full heal (we already have this with Frost Lich Jaina + Baron Geddon, Reno in Wild and others, it's completely fair). I just halved the amount of heal because it would be OP against aggro if it said "heal ALL damage dealt by your beasts", IMO).
So, do you think hunters deserve heals? How would you implement these? And while you're here, thanks for reading! Feedback on my card creations is always appreciated (these are my first ever)! :D
I think Zombeast could be really powerful with Bloodworm because of any number of charge beasts, Dispatch Kodo, or taunt. bloodworm + dispatch kodo is crazy powerful. A 6 damage to enemy with lifesteal minion and 6 heal for 9 mana!
1.) That may be true but given that hunter sucks ass in HS this is kinda the same deal.
2.) yeah freeze mage doesn't need to get any stronger.
3.) considering hunter can't face worth shit these days, they can't fend off aggro, and their midrange falls flat super easy, I'd say they do. A lot.
4.) I really don't think bloodworm is relevant.
The point i tried to make is that, besides healing being very strange on hunter, it is not what you NEED to keep up with meta.
IMO hunter needs good reactive spells for once, allowing a mage-like or a rogue-like style, and a sort of Control archetype. Without healing being that relevant.
As pointed out already for the first 12ish years of WOW hunters could not heal. They could bandaid, out of combat... or ask a priest nicely. I always let the HUNTARD die in pugs.
Back on topic. How can you not count bloodworm? Beast, lifesteal, buffable. Maybe you're doing it wrong.
Also, with your issue of dealing with board swarm I agree with, however, not many classes can burst 20+ damage from hand with classic set cards. And if strategized right a board full of minions I'm sure you know means you can gain lethal.
T10 Rhino + hyena + hounds ='s 16 damage against a full board. Not bad for 3 cards. With weapon already equipped+ 2* kill command and a 1 drop you can go face for 13 damage on T7.
The thing about hunters is they have a very aggressive classic package the leaves a poor design space without making them instantly OP. That said midrange has always done well and heals won't stop an agro board because you still won't be able to deal with the board, just die a turn later.
Hunter needs a mechanic that can stall the board or low mana minions that force trades due to high threat potential. Not unlike Hyena but with a more defensive stance. Maybe a card like bloodworm that also gains life everytime it does damage. Forcing trades and ensuring you get healed, a soft taunt or it will grow and stick and help the hunter survive to a burn turn.

Yes, as RavenSunHP and Skyi101 pointed out, hunter healing in WoW is a recent addition, but it's a reality now. As other people mentioned, it doesn't fit HS Hunter's class fantasy that much but it would make other hunter archetypes viable, as long as it makes sense and is somewhat unique as I suggested.
About your comment on burst AoE with classic set cards, I don't quite understand. We're talking about future expansion sets and despite my Spirit Bond being a little OP (maybe could cost more), Lightbomb, Flamestrike and lots of other AoE can deliver +20dmg easily "from hand" too.
I spent WAAAAYYY too long catching every single rare high sort after Hunter pet in WoW, looking at Arcturis makes me wish he was a card...
...Also give me Loque'nahak and Skóll while your at it!
Yeahhh man I totally get you! Thanks for the support, there you have it ! At first I thought of giving him Charge because it's a cat and all, but thinking of his role of being a Spirit Beast mender, making him a great Houndmaster target was way better than a possible face hunter auto-include, agree?
Skoll will come when I have a cool idea. Feel free to make one.
If they wanted to give healing to hunter, this would be the expansion. They had a gigantic plethora of spirit beasts to choose and lifesteal was implemented. Instead, they gave hunter shit AOE and even worse removal spells.

Something like a companion spell:
5 mana, summon a random spirit beast
Arcturis: 5/5 taunt, lifesteal
Loq'nahaq: 5/5 stealth, lifesteal
Banthalos: 5/5 charge, lifesteal.
Done.
Man, what an AWESOME idea. We should create that card, they allow even the tokens.

I kind of agree with you, but the easiest way to bring hunter up to par without giving it some stupidly overpowered cards would be to just give them a bit of healing. Deathstalker Rexxar can generate enough value by themself to win many games, but that means nothing if you can't stay alive enough to actually use that value.

All those healings came very late in wow expansions, for balance across classes.
Also, Mage in hs has no healing except dk and does not need more.
Healing is not what Hunter needs.
Btw, Bloodworm.
Exhilaration should be based on killing minions, as Exhilaration in WoW has its cooldown lowered when you kill enemies.
Barbeque: 1 mana, destroy a friendly beast and restore health equal to twice its cost.
Edit: Maybe 3 times. Losing a minion sucks.
I'm here to kick ass and play cards, and I'm all out of ass.
Hunters shouldn't have heal. That doesn't match it's style.
Hunter should have taunt and the "Bolf effect".
Armor Classes: Druid, Warrior, Mage
Bolf Classes: Hunter, Priest,
Healing Classes: Druid, Paladin, Priest, Shaman
Immune Classes: Mage, Warlock
Lifesteal Classes: Paladin, Priest, Rogue, Warlock
Stealth Classes: Rogue
Taunt Classes: Druid, Hunter, Shaman, Warrior

How about a simple design for spirit bond:
1 mana hunter spell
Give a friendly beast lifesteal?
I think that would be thematically appropriate and in line with similar effects.

Every Class in WoW can heal, lol.

Otherwise you could easily say Reno Jackson, or that Mech that heals for 8, etc...
I actuallly disliked the fact that Blizz gave every class healing. Kinda diluted class identity and made PvP a lot more boring imo.
